Iman was more than a supermodel and David Bowie's wife. The wisdom, depth, and insight, and intelligence of this woman is pretty extraordinary and moving. I have so much love and respect for Iman. She's so inspiring.
I admit I only looked for this because I'm a Bowie fan, but I'm so impressed by this articulate and smart woman. And what a lovely voice! I could listen to either of them talking all day.
Yea, you can see she is stunning which attracted Bowie but what he probably didnt realise at first was just how strong and similar they are in terms of having strong opinions and really curious personalities.
an intelligent, insightful and inspiring Somali Queen ♥ Iman abdulmajid is truly one of a kind. her influence in the model idustry is undeniable. anyone would be lucky to have known this lady
Such intelligence, such beauty, and such conviction towards her views. Bless her heart. I'd love to sit down and talk to her like this, just about her.
Back in 90', David & Iman came into the high end Japanese rest, Robata in Beverly. Hills (I was the bartender) for dinner. All the staff raved about how gracious & polite they both were and what a pleasure it was to wait on them. Genuine class. The total opposite was Robert DeNiro, who I greatly admire as an actor, but what a foul mouth this guy has & an attitude to match. The way he cussed out Naomi Campbell & her girlfriend would have made a sailor blush. Really sad to see & hear.
She embodies perfection. I can se9e why David fell immediately for her. Intelligent, beautiful, honest and a real class act. David was just like that. A couple made in heaven. Their baby was what David needed too a real family. He loved his son immensely but Iman gave him all that he wanted and longed for. She was her own person and so was David. They were the epitome of true love and respected each other. Iman I wish I could talk with you. I admire you sooo much.
What a beatiful and inspiring women Iman is. I lost my love almost 15 years ago and I can imagen how she must feel now, but he lives on in her heart RIp David
Africa is a continent not a country we all look different and have different cultures and languages.people need to know that and not say we are not black enough
When I was a young art director in NYC I booked Iman for a Bloomingdale's billing insert. Even at that time, before she was married to Bowie and before she became a spokesman and symbol for the rights of African women, I was aware of her intelligence and sensitivity. And she was an incredible model...professional and aware of what he job was and how to give her best. I admire her.
Iman is a very deep insightful woman with a big heart to have her own cosmetic brand for people of color & Caucasians. She doesn't even approve of being single out & being preferred before African American's that's why she is speaking out for other black models too.
this woman is amazing. she's sounds very educated and speaks with obvious intelligence, i just love hearing her talk. i wish her and her family love and my deepest sympathies...rest well david.
I admire Iman, she's been through the fire, and she's come out the other side, still beautiful, articulate, intelligent and wise, very wise. Love her, she's so down to Earth. "Vacuous beauty is empty." "Beauty and content." Iman I love that she teaches people to not let others devalue them. If you love and value yourself, and know who you are, nobody can take that from you. We celebrate you Iman, thank you for celebrating all of us.
I think she meant to say Cushitic and not Bantu. Even though she's very African. I'm glad she shared her views on how people categorize Africans only as Africans, instead of region / countries. Africa is the most diverse continent on earth.
Iman and David Bowie and Yoko and John Lennon both had an incredible impact on me as a young woman. Growing up in 1960's - 70's America mixed-race with no white, was harder than many now would think. I hated looking how I looked and had a strange inner hope that something would somehow help me to look more white. It wasn't that I hated myself. I feel like I saw and felt my own value as a human. But I felt like others didn't. When they saw me they saw my skin color first. Other characteristics and talents I possessed were secondary or tertiary. Around the time I was twenty-three (1983) I learned Bowie had married Iman. I was surprised and part of me was bewildered. Like many other young women then and now, the constructions of beauty that proliferate in the media were how I interpreted beauty, as well. At that time there were very few women of color in the media, as actresses, models, artists, politicians, anything! But with these two marriages I began to feel like maybe there were men and people in general who would be able to see me as possibly beautiful and not as defective. You really cannot imagine what it is like to have feelings like that. Franz Fanon, a writer who had a big impact on critical theory describes how a inner colonisation can happen when a child and later adult is surrounded by images and messages that state who they are does not matter. So he imparts quite well what it is like. Anyhow, I recognised Iman and Yoko had to be really impressive and uniquely dazzling women to be loved by such dynamic and impressive men. And I set about becoming my own impressively dynamic woman. So Thank You Iman for being You! Because it has meant so much to Me! :)
Ewwww.... well forgive me for a mistake. Can you not read? Or is it having to process complex ideas that is circumnavigating your comprehension? Should I attempt to reword it in a more prosaic idiom?
If someone is bored by these issues I would sincerely question their ability to be compassionate. And I would feel sad for them. Passion about our lived experiences is one the few places where the mundane can be infused with the energy that is passion. And bored is so opposite an engaged and passionate experience. But truthfully, I could care less if someone became bored. I didn't write it only for them. Most artists recognize once you put something out there, it is no longer yours and you cannot go about explainjng your words, photo, whatever, in an attempt to manage people's reactions or interpretations.
This was a real interview. She's a tough lady it's so inspiring. I like she's honest about the industry Even though she's so successful. Alot of successful people don't want to admit the crappy part of the profession, their scared. But I like her guts.
I love love love Iman! Especially her honesty about how Americans define her as a "black model"...when she only considers herself a "model". Americans are so hung up on race, it's embarrassing to the rest of the world.
love her speech, she always speaks well chooses wisdom words, has peace inside, stay away problems. she is beautiful don't envy. find 50 old look good most people fat when in 50. Can even go bathroom fast.
I love what she said -that vacuous beauty has no value, but having depth, a mind and character sprinkled with a little beauty is wonderful. She said that she has met some very beautiful people who are quite ugly- Amen! Just because someone looks nice to the eye- does not mean they have true beauty, humility, kindness, strength of character. Iman is my new favorite person!
Oh The woman is amazing . I love really really confident women, espec. when they are black. I look up to her. She is not a wanna be confident person, but a real one.
when Iman says she quit the modeling business in 1980, did she mean runway modeling? Because she continued to do photography modeling throughout the 90's and 2000's and still does it to this day I believe. She just did an H&M line
She is inspiring. Intellegent! I always like her answers on the questions delivered to her. But Iman, I think you must check Indonesia for your Iman Cosmetics and 'beauty pageant?' 😊
iman, thank you. You are so intelligent. so beautiful. i am bi-racial myself. it's wonderful she has a line that includes are women of the world. thank u love!
My Mother is somalian and in the UK we are always called your not black then at times i described as black and i am like what? I am black and why do you need to describe my race when you can just call my name? Anyways my point is somalians we are black and black is all difrent shades, size and texture. Fully agree with her xx
stella rawr because DNA studies of horners are very limited, now when you look at their DNA its 100% african. Somalis share DNA and culture with other East african people like oromo, afar etc. Its so stupid and sad when people say somalis are white or arab its insulting honestly because they mean you are mixed and thats why you look like that. Somalis language and culture go way back in time and to deny it by calling them arab etc is sad.
I always say the same about Africa! Its always considered as a country, and not a continent.I always say I'm Irish, and considered just Irish by everyone, not European. So why can't people understand that there are SEPARATE COUNTRIES ON THE AFRICAN CONTINENT AS IN THERE ARE IN EUROPE??? Just boils down to ignorance. Simple as that!
I always felt that david was my soulmate especially when I saw him years ago at a certain famous night club seems I have been very mistaken because I soon found out the lovely iman was his soulmate rip beautiful david
I agree with you Iman is worth her weight in gold, ohhhh what an amazing interview. Yeah, in the Eyes of God his Creation is Beautiful. So how does man define Beauty. Yeah it's all in the Beholder. Nice interview
The perfect shade of foundation for your natural skin color, is your natural skin with no foundation, it matches your natural skin color, & it expresses that vanity is not a value. I was at a grocery store yesterday and this lovely & obese African American woman could not pay her bill & was trying to make phones calls to her bank about an issue with her card not working, and no one was helping her to sit down to call her bank, they were just hoping she would leave, and to imagine some skinny rich woman buying foundation to look hotter than sickly medium-poor people with that hopeless look in their eyes.
I always wondered what Storm (this is a compliment as she is a goddess/royalty) did during off seasons....Im sorry but how the f*** was she overlooked and H.B chosen? I literally see the Fox X-Men Storm when i see her--wow!
what a wonderful self adjusted woman. she could have easily gotten lost in the draws and spoils of the business, tempted by the riches, but she used all of that and slowly but surely carved her own success. not to put tyra down, but i think that girl lost the plot.
Iman was more than a supermodel and David Bowie's wife. The wisdom, depth, and insight, and intelligence of this woman is pretty extraordinary and moving. I have so much love and respect for Iman. She's so inspiring.
Vanessa Clark yes she is great and I believe she raised bowie up.he was a different person after he met her.She transformed him.
Yes, I'm sitting here thinking I would love to go to an event where she is the speaker. So intelligent 🤔😊💞👍
I like Iman. David Bowie was very lucky to find her.
+zephyrquartz After watching this interview,I can see why he fell in love with her.
Big fan of both Iman and David Bowie,,, they we're perfect for each other
Bowie finally found true Love with Iman...you can see the healthy transformation in him and feel that vibe of happiness when they are together...

David and Iman they are a blessing of love for each other, rest in peace David..my heart goes out to Iman and Lexi and Duncan and other loved ones.
an intelligent, insightful and inspiring Somali Queen ♥ Iman abdulmajid is truly one of a kind. her influence in the model idustry is undeniable.

this interviewer is so infatuated with her. He's clinging on her every word, but then again wouldn't we? She's so stunning!
We all are 😃 she's beautiful
Listening to this interview makes me appreciate why Iman and David jones ( Bowie ) got together and found happiness together ...wonderful
Such intelligence, such beauty, and such conviction towards her views. Bless her heart. I'd love to sit down and talk to her like this, just about her.

Africa is a continent not a country we all look different and have different cultures and languages.people need to know that and not say we are not black enough
She's even more beautiful in person! Her skin is flawless....she's stunning....

Wow! What an impressive woman and interview!
They had a connection and came together for a reason. The work continues!...:-)
Iman's story would be movie-worthy....she is practically royalty...almost an Anastasia....she should publish her life story if she hasn't!
She has. Search on Amazon. David wrote the forward.
Iman is a very deep insightful woman with a big heart to have her own cosmetic brand for people of color & Caucasians. She doesn't even approve of being single out & being preferred before African American's that's why she is speaking out for other black models too.

“Beauty” is love, it is “giving”, it is “patience”, it is unaware of itself, & it is humble, -vanity is the opposite of beauty.
I agree with you Iman is worth her weight in gold, ohhhh what an amazing interview. Yeah, in the Eyes of God his Creation is Beautiful. So how does man define Beauty. Yeah it's all in the Beholder. Nice interview
