Hey, this is Justin! Awesome video, man! It was really cool to have a fellow vocal coach analyze my techniques and voice. If you ever get some free time, we should do a video chat! I would love to pick your brain about certain techniques, and I bet we could learn a ton from each other! Thanks for the support! You rock :D
Also, I should add, this performance was the fourteenth take! I kept screwing up the lyrics and having to start over. If there is one thing I take a lot of pride in, it is my vocal endurance. I can typically sing/scream for hours before I fatigue. When I live stream on my Hungry Lights and Hungry Covers channels, I am usually doing vocals for 6-14 hours at a time-always making sure to stay hydrated and take a few days off after that. But seriously, I would love to pick your brain sometime and talk about different techniques! I think the way I achieve my exhale, low, guttural tone and pig squeals would really blow your mind!
Yaz 😍
Here's an example of a really confident and down to earth dude. You guys rock, for real
I was the 69th like... just had to let everybody know.
Love you Justin
Justin says it in his vocal psa. It looks like he is pushing himself in that, because he is giving a performance. He is intentionally doing that.
was going to post the same thing, its funny watching him doing vocals without performance lol
@@jessebaccus it is
@@noafenton3117 For sure, and I've seen that too, but not everyone else has, and so it's important to point that out in general.
@@KardavoxAcademy Yeah makes sense
@@KardavoxAcademy Hey kard can you react to Progenies of the Great apocalypse by Dimmu Borgir Live?
I feel like Justin is finally getting the credit he deserves.
Justin is amazing. Such a fun creature 🙂
Is this the same guy that won the Jared Dines vocal contest a while ago? Crazy vocals.
Yes
He went by amneon
Yeah
@@JalimRabeikkkkk He has actually one two separate ones
Justin is nuts in the best way possible.
Oh lol he says almost the same thing in the video
You have got to do the vocal video for “red light” if you haven’t already. It’s a lot more energetic
Yeeesss. Please do red light
Of course we need that
Yeeesss been waiting for Tallah! Justin, the vocalist is actually insane (both in terms of skill and his performance on stage/in Videos), i highly recommend watching/analysing the vocal one-take of "Red Light" , its by far the most thematically fitting and therefore crazy performance and his high screams will actually steal your soul
Justin just gets more insane and more impressive the more you see. Consistently does the opposite of disappointing.
Definitely nu metal vibes, but there is more for sure. They call themselves Nu- Core. Either way great band, great video, been a fan of Justin since like 2013 nice to see him (and tallah) blowing up!
I was excited to watch it but it's premierng in three days, why you gotta do me like that? :,\/
Smth to take into consideration is that Justin is a performer by core and he adds pressure in his head to make it all look nutty.
He said it doesn't affect his vocals and that it's purely a cosmetic feat to make it look entertaining
Yeah, he mentioned it in a video for vocalists, theres a clip with him doing the various screams with performance and its effortless.
@@chrisberry2472 yeap.
@@chrisberry2472 Any chance I could get a link for this video, please?
Would it be possible for you to make a "vocal lessons pre-101" video? Something that shows really rough, simple techniques and terms to help someone who is starting at absolutely zero form some kind of baseline so that if they wanted to start lessons with you, the lessons can begin from a place of knowledge rather than learning basic words and entry level warmups? That might be kind of neat!
That's a cool idea, Daniel! I will definitely consider it, as there is a lot that could be covered, however, I've had many beginner students in my classroom, and it's not a problem at all. In fact, sometimes it's great to get someone at the very start where they can learn everything properly and build a strong foundation rather than having to spend the first few lessons unlearning previously integrated bad behaviours. If you want to talk more about lessons, feel free to drop me an email on kardavox1010@gmail.com. Thanks!
I screamed like a lil girl and then got sad because it didn't premiere yet
I don't normally set reminders out for youtube videos, but this is an exception
Definitely think Tallah is bigger than just new nu metal. Kinda is a little upsetting too because the comments on their videos are all like "Wow this is like Korn and Slipknot had a baby" which I personally disagree with because it's so original and unique in terms of style
it's not really that out of bounds to compare them to koRn, there are a BUNCH of similarities stylistically in a lot of their songs.
I mean...I both really feel where you're coming from but also disagree tbh. They really wear their Slipknot, Korn, and Deftones influences proudly on their shoulders so it's kinda hard to argue they don't come from that place. At the same time tho, it's hard to say anyone has done anything nearly as creative with those respective sounds as Tallah has, and the result of it is something far greater, more unique, and more creative than the sum of its parts. It's beyond Nu-metal, agreed, but it couldn't exist without it.
In their description they say it's a blend of Nu-Metal and modern Hardcore like Code Orange and Vein which I definitely think is an accurate description, Justin also brings a uniqueness with his vocal composition
Hello,
Stan Justin’s solo project Hungry Lights
Goodbye
I agree.
I stan Justin Bonitz, thanks for coming to my TedTalk.
Stan Justin at all costs
@@argpalauanbruh Your profile picture holy shit I'm crying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@jaybarbieri8619 gopnik Sal
Justin and Tallah definitely aren't pioneering nu-metal, they are doing their own new and unique thing. They call themselves nu-core. It's got bits of metalcore and deathcore spiced throughout.
I could definitely get behind nu-core if it becomes an actual thing
@@Phlfwlr oh same that'd be such a cool and fresh genre blend
@@flEX0RAGE I've heard of lotus eater and I love alpha wolf but haven't heard of the other hand
What I really like with Justins voice and especially his lows are that even tho they are deep, you can hear that he is really doing it in a safe way.
First time setting a RUclips Reminder by the way.. would be awesome if you did some sort of collaborative video with Justin.. maybe some vocal discussion, a dual reaction or something.. You're both extremely talented vocalists. Would be some interesting content
You should do Oathbreaker - 10:56 / Second Son Of R (on Audiotree live) that would be such a great reaction
PLEASE
Acrania - Exterminate the Liberated... Have to do this, I will keep posting this! Luke Griffin is amazing!
Please do Beyond Deviation - White Noise, Until we die - Distorting of Perception or Gamma Sector - Ephemeral reaction next time!
Distorting of perception has maybe the most insane high screams i have heard so i would love know how someone does those kind of vocals, the lows are really great too
Justin has rapidly become my favorite metal vocalist in a loooooong time! No doubt, I really love how you can feel his emotion very blatently. Like even some covers, like KoRns thoughtless, that song is top 5 for me from KoRn, and when you watch him perform that song, it feels like he lived that life Jon was portraying. Fucking sick, I am very exited for metal and rock, if its going this way.
Don't like the rapping much, but this guy's voice is insane and i've been following him for a few years. Also his End of Heartache cover is one of my favorite covers.
Been jamming to Hungry Lights since The Awry Ascent. 🤘
could you react to deviloof - 拷訊惨獄 ?
C’moooon Sots-Pernicious pleaseee!!
8:08 I'm screaming of laughter cause al I can think of is "crusty CRAHH-YAHH-YAHHB"
Beyond Deviation - Identity Crisis, you NEED to hear these wild ass whistle screams

You can thank me later :)
He finally gave in. Now when do we get Austin Dickey (For The Likes Of You-“Forlorn”)?
Yes!!!
Yes please
I am very excited for this one
Also..First
One thing I will clarify is some of Justin's vocal videos are one takes but for the Overconfidence video he actually did 14 takes I believe. He was forgetting lyrics and having some other small issues before he got one he was happy with.
Proof that some reactors still read the comment section! Thanks man!
I do hear a lot of Linkin Park influence in here. I actually discovered this guy two years ago for his other project Hungry Lights. Very cool dude.
Damn he's come a long way from those Amneon(?) days💞
Stoked you did a video on this guy, he's crazy awesome.
Pls do one day a reaction video of Slice the cake, one of they song, I'm pretty sure there is plenty things to say about the vocalist. He is really special and make things that I dont hear anywhere else. Really like you stuff man, more than reaction, the explanation is really interresting !
Thanks dude, Gareth is definitely an interesting guy!
This was a great analysis here, Justin is insane and his voice (er... *voices*) definitely baffle me, and it was cool to see it broken down so I can understand it a little better.
Also, I'd love to see you react to Chaney Crabb's vocal playthrough of Entheos - Remember You Are Dust, if you haven't seen it! She has an insane range and it's probably my favorite song from them! 🤘
His Sumerian audition he did a few years back was killer
So you want death metal? Well, if you don’t already have a song picked out, I would highly recommend “Where Demons Bore” by Firelink.
Are those d&d books in the background!? :D
Of course!
This guy has so much personality and I’m here for it
You should check out Sleep or Defect by Strangled! Super sick vocals on those songs
I obviously came here because of Tallah and me wanting to hear an actual vocal coach’s opinion on Justin’s voice, but I must say; you look like Ewan McGregor. Just felt compelled to say that. 😁
just wanted to say that tallah is great band, however they aren't pioneering the nu-metal rebirth. There are many nu-metal bands that are actually new such as guerrila warfare, charcoal tongue, and XIII and this has been happening for about 4 years, slowly biulding up. I will say however tallah did give the biuld up a speed boost per say, due to the instant attention gathered by a youtuber on vocals and famous drummers son on drums (justin and max) paired with their sick slipknot kind of sound...if slipknot were a bit more limp bizkit/korn
15:21 felt mildly inappropriate. Oh my!
Can you react to A Wake in Providence - I Adversary / Sworn Adherent?
You should react to Oceans at Alaska, Metamorph, Vultures and Sharks, High Horse, No Strings, Floorboards, or To Catch a Flame!
agreed
yeah, metamorph is such a great song, i can't get enough of it
Never one and the same!
YEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HYPE TRAIN!!! Preciate ya Mark. Been hoping to see one of these for a while.
There is definite inspiration from Nu-Metal, but I feel they stretch much further, including borrowing from prog in some ways. Specifically in their song's forms, vocal styling and lyrical content (i.e. concept).
Dude. I’m kind of drunk right now, but as an aspiring vocalist. This video really helped me feel what I need to feel to nail the sound
You seen squeeze on his neck cause he’s skinny as fuck. When you’re vascular it’s hard to avoid that “strained” look even though you’re not straining per se
Dude, I was trying to figure out why this guys voice seemed so familiar. His style has changed significantly since his Amnaeon days. I remember enjoying his "Ghost Feet" entry on Jared Dines channel back when he entered Jared's competition. I told the dude the studio version lost all of the emotion the raw comp video had. Dude said "Sucks to suck". Like his vocals, I don't like the dude himself.
Lmao. I got a good chuckle out of the "this guy is a nut and I mean that respectfully" cause I know exactly what you mean and why he's a natural front man for a band. Ive watched him off and on over the years and always knew he'd be a fantastic metal singer. It takes someone like him to be a force on the stage. I remember seeing Motograter (Ivan Moody's previous band) live at an Ozzfest (IIRC) and Ivan just looking vicious on stage as he was muscular and his presence on stage was contagious. I think Justin has that spark as well cause he's very animated. A long time ago I saw this local band (Blind Judgement) playing at some small bar type place and the lead singer was absolutely crazy as he was all over the place and doing flips and purposely landing on his stomach (it was a controlled fall) and it was just wild to watch. They were very heavy and had they stayed together they definitely would've made it big.
tallah is criminally underrated
Are we gonna get some dance gavin dance on the channel? I think some contrast between tillian and john would be cool to hear analyzed
I wouldn't say that this is Nu Metal. It does have some similarities to Nu Metal with the rapping and the chaotic vocal changes. So I can see how someone can see it as Death Metal + Nu Metal. But i don't think it's part of a new wave of Nu Metal. And Justin acts kinda like Michael Cummings from Powerman 5000 lol. On a side note, is a new wave of Nu Metal actually a thing now? I've been seeing a lot more bands coming out with that early 2000's sound but I didn't think it got that far yet.
What is Justin’s Chanel? Apart from tallah obviously
Idk if they are bringing back nu metal. There are lots of bands doing a new metal ish thing, that might be more pioneering the new wave of it. Vein and I prevail are two examples that might be popularizing the new nu metal sound in completely different ways. Tallah has so much going on, they're almost more Nu Progmetal if that could be a thing??
Justin always looks like he is having a good time in the vocal videos
Apologies if you've done this one already (I looked but didn't see it) but could you do a reaction to Aeon by Defamed? It's heavy and the vocals are deathcore but blackened, so think you might enjoy 👍
You should check out Defiler's new song Canaanite or Walk in the Glow!
How come you didn't say anything about the most interesting thing in this whole song - the whistle/flageolet at 18:18? :) All the other stuff and techniques are pretty common but whistles seem pretty advanced to me, I still can't manage to make them stable enough to do such quick bursts out of nowhere
Out of all these "vocal coach/lawyer/plumber/president reacts to x" videos you're one of the only ones that actually adds something. Well done!
I'm wondering if you'll ever do ghostmane reviev...
It's definitely nu metal influenced...I hear Slipknot and Korn style shit mixed with a ton of different spices of shit that's came out since.
I dig it, there's definitely room in the world for nu metal to come back better then it was before.
I think they are very nu metal-like but they, along with linkin park and slipknot, have a very unique sound that I think bands will try to replicate in the future. So yes, pioneers.
Justin is a fantastic teacher and a brilliant vocalist, also he's mentioned in videos how he over exaggerates his performances to make it look like he's straining/pushing more than he actually is
I was listening to them the other day and my wife shouted 'Is that Zed from Police Academy?' Tbf, parts do sound like Bobcat Goldthwait. 😂
The slip of tongue made me laugh 😂 Showed you were into though.
He’s so damn good! The way he can go in and out or whisper to scream like in Too Quick to Grieve and The Impressionist.. insane!
Boi I’ve been waiting for this all my life. Will update after I get to watch but I already tossed a like!
Update: another great video, his one take of Red Light is also crazy good man.
Tallah definitely has a nu metal sound, with the chords, the chunky guitar riff and thrashy/punky drums, the turn tables and rapping, etc. But there's also other aspects of genres like metalcore, death metal, deathcore, hardcore, etc in the mix. So I think Tallah is just fronting as a nu metal band, but they're so genre bending they don't fit into any one genre.
Maybe just call them nu metalcore lol. They remind me a lot of Cane Hill in that aspect.
I would love to see you react to red light by tallah! Also, Unparalleled Insubordination by Vulvodynia feat don Chapman from waking the cadaver. It has some crazy cool vocal shit happening.
They are more than Nu Metal they are a genre called Tallah on their own
Cant believe how Mark has not recated to Hollow Prophet - Infernal Cleansing yet..
@✪Hidden yeah but the vocals in this song are quite different than the ones in SOI. Plus you can see the shape of his mouth while hes doing them.
Man if you can't vibe to your own music like Justin does you're doing it wrong
You should check out Alpha Wolf or The Gloom In The Corner
When Justin was amnaeon he had a load of solo albums shit was so sick proper gutted he deleted them gems
Where can I find a link to the discord you mentioned this video?
You have to pay him
@@wollsmoth69 oh thank you. I'm not doing that lol
Just saw these guys for the first in Austin short set but God damn they were really good
Gives disturbed vibes when he throws those “roars” in rapping and slipknot on clean vocals and still sounds unique, awesome
id agree. its broader. not just new nu metal. new nu metalcore.
Is he wearing the Sony XM4/XM3?
When did Ewen McGregor become a vocal coach?
I love his muppet dance with the shoulder shrugs and everything. That dude knows how to let loose
The Dungeons and Dragons books in the back caught my eye. You know you love to see it 👀
his vocal style is a little self indulgent for my tastes but he is for sure talented.
Theyre so NOT NuMetal... far more.
His whistle scream piqued your interest. I demand you as his best work in that regard by watching the contest winner, Ghost Feet, in Jared Diane's channel.
I think Tallah is the most unique band we’ve had since 2010s Metalcore bands
I couldn’t find a genre to place them in on my Spotify playlists so I made a new one called, “Mod Metal” For them. “Mod” meaning Modern
Please do murder seed. That song….murders *slaps knee*
It would have been super cool if you touched base on his whistle register scream
YES! FINALLY! Im so excited for this
a little bit of strain on the neck..
*laughs in chester bennington*
Now do Beyond Deviation - Identity Crisis
check out ‘I am Healed’ by Cult Leader
I am excite >:)
Anything shrine of malice ftw
So nu core (nu metal meets metalcore) has been around for a few years now. They aren't the first to do this but for me they might be one of the best proponents in it. Mixing in a lot of classic nu metal sounds (Korn, slipknot, mudvayne) with loads of modern metal vocal techniques and just lots of other stuff.
Other bands that have played around with this style is motionless in white on the reincarnate album (title track especially has slipknot vibes). Northlane's latest album Alien has got some nu core vibes as well.
I loved nu metal and I love metalcore/deathcore so seeing the merger of these sounds is awesome for me
We are primarily mixing nu metal with hardcore, which is the "core" we are going for rather than metalcore or deathcore. Not that there is anything wrong with those genres :P
Would it be possible to get a reaction to Sleep token?
it appears me and justin have something in common
