I remember when I first played this game. I got a choice from an uncle of mine, my mother's brother, to pick Fallout 1 or 2 and take it with me, eager with anticipation the 1.5 days of travel by car it would take to get home.
I had no computer to play it on, i was to young and PC's were not that terribly commonplace, so I would make a deal with my mother - every evening I could, when she closed up her flower-shop and went home, I'd come by, get the key, lock the door and sit down at my mother's work-PC in a dark office and play fallout 2 into the darker night, completely undisturbed, with just myself, some food and and drink, and the action on the screen.
I'd re-watch this intro every time I sat down to play this game. A couple of years later, we re-visited my grand-mother's place and my uncle. He gave me Fallout 1 upon request that year, and I'd play that as well on the same computer, in the same dark office, as the same reward for the same assistance in the same flower-shop.
To say that this intro is nostalgic, will simply not cut it. It is more than that, it is frankly, a piece of my childhood that I cherish to this day. And ignorant people in this world, tell us all that we "waste" our time on computer games.
Time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time. I loved that flower-shop and cried when my mother sold it.

+Terenin I know how you feel. F2 was my first fallout game (played it a year before I got my hands on Fallout 1), and I feel extremely nostalgic about. Remembering all the hours/days/weeks I've put into it, and being excited each time I'd discovered something new about the game with each new play-through.

Fallout 2 was my first fallout game I've played. I was 14 y.o. at the time, 25 right now, and still, after all these years, Perlman's voice gives me chills.

Fallout 2 was also one of my first games ever, I must've around 12 when rolling my first low-intelligence melee character. Perlman's narration is sublime, which owes a lot to the stellar writing of these intros (and which was utterly lost during the Bethesda takeover).

I feel like Fallout 2's "movie reel" intro's really underrated and should be remembered more. A lot of elements like the Louis Armstrong song and the cool looking Vault-Tec Goggles should be remembered and used more by Bethesda, imho. Better yet, they should just have Obsidian keep making west-coast Fallouts. Even ones set in the past of the canon would be fine. I'd have a lot of fun going back in time and helping young President Tandi help found the NCR for instance.

fallout 1 (2161) and fallout 2 (2241) both occur in California,
fallout 3 (2277) happens in Washington DC and fallout 4 (2287) in boston, not only cities have been blown up, but also centuries have passed, some structures simply give up and crumble, trees naturaly grow when possible (just look at chernobyl, it has many more trees right now and harold also is responsible for a lot of trees present in fo3).If bethesda does a fallout game in a REAL big city, it would be prior to the events of fallout 1

These guys weren't present in Fallout 1, they were still in "hiding" for the most part. Operating mostly in the Navarro military base and their oil rig. They are the Enclave. The remnants of the old world U.S. Government and Military. These games are amazing, and you should get them. There are mods that make both games work fantastically on newer PCs.
As for why? Assertion of dominance. Their plan was to retake control of the wastes. Frank Horrigan is the main bad guy, and end game Boss Fight. You don't see him in this, but you do end up seeing him several times while playing. (Once when he's killing a family. He tells you to stay out of it. Once on a video recording at a Brotherhood of Steel outpost, and once on a video recording at Vault 13.) You have one conversation with him before the battle, and he's voiced by Michael Dorn(which is just badass.)

i doubt bethesda would remake new reno city as it was

Yeah, they would have to censor a whole shit ton of stuff, which would pretty much ruin New Reno

I never understood what the purpose was for the people of Arroyo to build a giant temple, only to fill it with pitfalls, intricate traps and radscorpions. Sure it made for an easy tutorial setup (albeit a shitty and predictable one) but that must've taken some work all for some gimmicky obstacle course. It's a shame the Temple of Trials had to be such an alienating and rough start for an otherwise superb CRPG. I know many I've tried to recommend this game to turned off by the beginning.

+Tsar Drakken The temple wasn't built by the people of Arroyo. It was a pre-war Church that ended up filled with radscorpions and was in complete disrepair by the year the game starts. The only part the natives built is that giant head on the front of it.

The Publishers wanted that. It was shoe-horned in at the last minute, that's why it feels so out of place. The Dev team just wanted to give you your stuff and send you on your merry way just like in Fallout 1. That's why it feels off and weird.

I wish they'd at least bring the classic vault door back... the one that goes outward instead of inward. Should have done that in new vegas tbh since that was a west coast vault. (Near it anyway)

Dude, I really want to know why people tunnel-vision shit like this. "Ah, the good old days! When the Vault door track was on the Outside, where it could get jammed up with gravel! Not like the lame Bethesda vault door which is stylistically the exact same, but slides inward, into the vault so it doesn't get stuck on a rock and seal the inhabitants in! If only Bethesda had made the vault door look exactly as it did in a 16-bit graphics engine in 1998, my gaming experience would be so much richer!"

Robert Holman it’s just because in my opinion, since lore wise the west coast had different designs of Vault doors than the West. That’s it really.

fallout 1 & 2 are so much better than the bethesda games. the bethesda games shouldn't even be called fallout.

OK, so the Vault Dweller gets exiled from Vault 13 and for some reason (or, let's be honest - for no reason), goes into the wasteland and establishes a crude village (with whom? How can one man establish a village?) in a middle of nowhere. And what about many other places he visited before, where he would be welcome? Why didn't he just settle in Shady Sands, Junkville, The Hub or rejoin the Brotherhood of Steel (which he was a member of, actually)? He did not decide to live in any of these places, being hailed as a hero and living a good live - instead, he decided to live in a desert?
    THIS MAKES NO F*CKING SENSE!!!

    • @aceotaku
      @aceotaku 8 лет назад +6

+Genesivare actually, there is a reason he was exiled, apart from vault dwellers being douchebags: the overseer of vault 13 was actually evil, actively working with the enclave as aprt of Vault 13's experiment, and he exiled the vault dweller because he was afraid he would ruin the experiment. Eventually, the other vault dwellers revolted and escaped, and the voerseer was killed somehow, i forget hwo.

It appears you didn't understand what I said. I am not questioning the fact of the Vault Dweller's exile. I am questioning the fact of him going into desert after that, instead of settling in any of the towns he visited before, where he already had a reputation of a hero.

Genesivare yeah sorry I woudl've added a clarification that I did not have an explanation for everything else, just an explanation for that one part. >.< but I was lazy

It's still better having autism (I wonder if you even know what that word means...) than being a lout and caveman like you. Go offend people for no reason somewhere else - for example, in stone age, where you apparently belong.

He probably wanted to be away from the memories of his adventures
the fact that he was exiled perhaps led him to depression so he wanted to remove himself from all his former cohorts.

The end of Sweden occurred pretty much as we had predicted. Too many immigrants, not enough space or resources to go around.
