- Here's my monthly update from Dean Park Station. Not a massive amount of progress on the layout itself as the warmer weather has arrived and my wife has me in the garden getting it looking tidy, so work on the layout is slowing for the summer. It is too warm to be up the loft...roll on Autumn!!
Anyway, plenty of new additions to the layout and some loco running to enjoy. Thanks
My Facebook Page is DEAN PARK STATION and not DaveClass47 as published in the video.
Fabulous shots of the 47 and 37 under the train shed.
The Scotrail push-pull set is suberb.
The layout is looking great.
Hi Dave , you also get put out in the garden this time of year ..me too...Nice update , like the Union of south Africa some nice additions you have there ..Dave
I am no expert gardener David, but jet hosing the moss off the fencing was yesterdays job...no doubt I will be issued with a paint brush this week to coat the whole thing! Have to say, you cant beat a garden with cut grass, weeded borders...and a clean fence!! Dave
What a great collection of loco's and rolling stock especially in those liveries!
Hi Dave. Your layout is for me one of the best on the web. Interesting updates, nice locos, great videos,
Wow, thanks for that amazingly positive comment...I hope you continue to enjoy the updates. Dave
Always happy to help Dave thanks for the mention. Great to see number 9 with an impressive rake. Did enjoy the 47 disappear into the portal.
Phew, you're happy...didn't want you to go in the huff lol. Yeah the 47 looks good, but what a difference the DBSO makes to the Scotrail express...thanks again.
Very good update (particulary at 4.39). Well done. Gérard.
Hi there; Its coming along great, look forward to future updates.
cheers
Fantastic video this one, Dave. Love that you filmed footage from within the station, under the canopy.
Cheers. I’d do a lot more of the under cover shots if I could get my camera in easily lol
Hi Dave. Great layout look forward to your monthly updates
Thanks for the running shots from within the station canopy. Amazing stuff. Can't wait to see the express parcels vans within the res rake. DBSO very nice also! Cheers, Matt.
Hi Dave just gets better lovin the shots though the station thanks for the info for the mgr wagon light I am just doing some for my layout cheers Dave
Hi Dave, very interesting. You have come a long way.
Hi there, just a quick note to say thank you for all the videos and how much I have enjoyed them. They have helped me no end with my layout. I hope to post my efforts soon. Kindest regards Peter. Tasmania
Hi, no probs...I am so glad you find them useful. I put them on you tube to get feedback on what others think and to get new suggestions too. Your positive feedback makes all the difference. Thanks. Dave
Fab layout, even better when you've ballast the tracks and added some figures and trees
Really well designed so far. I wish i had patience like yours.
keep up the good work also i like the new additions..
I recommend you play Take That's "Patience" cd in the background when you're working on your layout. It helps you slow down progress on your layout as you're too busy trying to drown out the sound to do anything else! lol
yep couldn't of said it better
blinken junction Hi, its about 25ft long by 11-12ft wide. The base boards are just under 3ft at the sides. Thanks.
Layout is looking good and the additional stock is nice.
Nice new additions! And enjoyable to c sum action
Lovely video Dave. I like your new rake of Mk I maroon coaches. The DBSO looks fab on your layout, it fits perfectly. All in all, some great additions. Rob
Would love to get one of the Battle of Britain 225s... I've just got the Flying Scotsman version. I believe there's lighting kits about for them but not tracked them down yet but it's disappointing Hornby haven't added them. Well done on tracking down those coaches by the way. Nice running session and update Dave! :) - Sim
Superb video Dave like the A4 coming through the station plus the camera angles was superb too really showing how impressive your layout is.
Like the DBSO if that's right looks very smart plus nice additions too.
It's a massive thumbs up from me.
Kev
Cheers Kev, love the station shots of the A4 going through, might sound chip it to get the chime whistle sounding under the roof! You sound chipped your A4's? Worth doing?! Dave
DaveClass47 Not sure Dave on sound mate cost being one and I've not got decoders in any locos yet still building the layout priority at the mo.
Kev
That 37 sounds awesome by the way
Hi Dave nice update and I like the new additions esp Union of South Africa with her Maroon mk1's, and RAF 91 looks good be nice to see it running Andy
Cheers Andy. All I need now is an HST powering through the station to make my day! ;-) Dave
DaveClass47 will have to send you mine in the post and do a combined video, travelling from the Birmingham to Scotland Andy
lol...it may come to that...if Hornby fail to deliver on their release dates AGAIN! lol
You must be a civil engineer...your infrastructure is great. Really enjoyed watching your trains go by...thanks.
Hi, not a civil engineer no, but I sometimes I wish I had been, I like the careful planning to make sure everything fits and comes together correctly. Thanks for the positive comments. It means a lot when people say they like what you do. Dave
wonderful layout! you have there!
Brilliant update I'd recommend painting the back scenes before any scenic work or ballasting I made the Same mistake and accidentally got paint on the track and ballast but great update.
Elliot
Great vid, will look out for your next update. I do wish Hornby would retool the 91's though!
Great looking layout. Class 91 looks great but I agree with you, would be better if lights worked. Scotrail Class 47/7 is really nice. Great detail, looking forward to the next update. Very impressive.
Hi Thanks Simon, really kind comments. Yeah the 91 is a good all round model, but the lack of new technology in lights etc lets it down a bit.
I hope to post more updates before the autumn, but work has slowed for now as its summer and I have been told by my wife to go get the garden looking better lol. Dave
Very nice video as always and impressive stock and accessories. Susannah
Hi Thanks....will have to stop being so easily tempted by new trains...I am running out of space!!
the layout looks amazing dave.i love the way the station is looking now and the shots from inside the station canopy was top notch. all you need to do now is get an airbrush and weather up the stock.
well done mate
terry
Hi Terry,
Ballasting is in the book for the autumn and then weathering track, station car park, station detail added, lights on platform etc and then upper layer track laid and then onwards to work on another section. Think I will get around to stock weather in 2030 at this rate! lol
Cheers for the comments mate.
Dave
lol sounds like your list is as long as mine mate. better get cracking lol.
Glebe Road Junction I would if it wasn't so nice weather outside, which makes it warm up the loft. My wife gets me busy in the garden and with my wee one running around its difficult to sneak away lol.
i know what you mean mate.i have three young kids the youngest just turned one this weekend and its hard to find any time to get up into the loft as well as finding any spare cash for new locos etc.
Terry, you must have the patience of a saint...I only have one, who's 2 this week and she keeps me busy! Having a family is wonderful though.
However as my mate tells me - what value can you put on a hobby?...if you enjoy it then don't hold back. Maybe I should start holding back, as with over 115 coaches I can never run them all at once! lol
God love this hobby though eh?
Could you tell me please what a kind of track are you using?
It is peco code 100 streamline?
Cork - 1/8 " ?
Turnouts insulfrog or electrofrog?
Im being a bit confused at the beginning of my adventure with OO gauge.
Have a nice day
Jaro - Ireland
Hi Jaro,
Ok I hope I can help.
Peco Code 100 Streamline, all flexible track wooden sleeper.
Turnouts are a mix or medium and large radius and all are electrofrog. See my earlier video on wiring up a Peco Electrofrog for more information that may be of help if you are putting point motors on them.
I have the station area on 1/16" inch at the station area and 1/8" on the other parts. The reason for thinner cork was that the thicker cork made the trains sit too high when sitting at my card kit platforms.
Hope this helps?
Thanks for watching my video.
Dave
DaveClass47
Thanks Dave.
You just confirmed my decisions. I was thinking about electrofrog and peco 100 streamline. I could not decide between 1/16 cork and 1/8. What I see both of them are useful.
You have been very helpful. Now I am 100 % sure what I have to buy.
Thanks a lot. Have a nice evening.
Jaroslaw Juliusz Hi, no problem. The electrofrog points are the way to go if you are using DCC, point motors etc. Its good to use different thicknesses of cork as the ballast shoulder on mainlines is bigger than in station areas etc. So both will look good! Anymore things from my videos I can help you with, please get in touch.
Dave
DaveClass47
Hi Dave.
Thanks again for the tips.I will go with DCC.
Really it is very early stage for me. I am planning what, where and how to do it.
DDC is something new for me. I saw a lot of movies on youtube (mainly yours) but I am not sure I remember everything.
Thanks -- Jaro
Those shots under the roof look great already - certainly reminds me of Edinburgh. Though I feel cheated that we have no video 32! Surely you can get up there before Autumn to make one. Also, what make are the signals again?
Error sorted...I have renamed it video 32...I had missed that one out for some reason! oops!
Signals are CR Signals. They are ace! Check out previous posts in Feb-April for information on them and what makes them work! Any questions, just ask. Thanks. Dave
Now you're starting the later form of push-pull services, you could try the earlier sort with two class 27s in top & tail formation
Now that's a great idea! I have a 26 and a 27...I will see if I can get them running in harmony and get that sorted! Watch out in future updates.
Very nice Dave, love the rake with A4, still working hard with my layout you can find on RUclips somewhere, any more building updates?........Kind regards Steve
Hi Steve, cheers for comment. In process of rebuilding main station building that was 'demolished' last autumn! Hope to get that well under way in the next few weeks and have it on the layout late summer. I will check out your layout. Dave
Nice fleet there buddy. Not sure if you are into Class 40's but if you plan to get D369. That would fit perfectly on those maroon carriages :).
Ash.
Hi, Yeah I like the 40's, but with a massive shopping list its going to be a while until it graces my layout. I wish I was a millionaire, so I could have every train and coach on the market lol.
Great viewing.
Love your layout and the progress. Looking great. Im taking a bit of time out of modelling for now but enjoy watching your progress. Looks awesome. Would look great with some Scottish EMU's and a few more DMU's but im a MU fan :-) that is Multiple Units, not Man Utd lol
Hi, cheers for comment. I have a class 107 dmu, which I will get running in an autumn update. Taking a bit of a break myself as well, its too warm up the loft, so I usually start working up there in September.
I'm a HST fan, that's High Speed Train, not.....em......not sure what else that stands for! lol. Cheers
lol Yes seen that 107 looks great. Maybe Bachmann will do an SPT 101 when they come out. Love the SPT MU's and Bratchells do them RTR already painted, saves days on an EMU build.
Nice update, the new locos look great. Its a shame for the amount you pay for the class 91 that it doesn't come with lights, especially with todays standards that trains are at, but nevertheless the livery is stunning.
Yeah agreed...but the livery is amazing. Hornby don't seem to want to invest in electrics...steam locos and their development seems to be Hornby's thing!
DaveClass47 Firstly great video as always! Secondly I think we're starting to see a step shift in the way the RTR manufacturers view AC Electrics. the Heljan 86 bombed because it was fundamentally flawed but I still have one - imo at viewing distances it is still leaps ahead of Hornby's, its performance is certainly miles bettter. I was nearly tempted by the Class 85 from Bachmann as well, but it was totally the wrong era and region for me. Bachmann have said that the Class 85 "paid off", and Dapol seem to be adding to their range of available catenary. Hopefully after that someone will do a Class 90, and I think from there the range will start to grow. After all, the RTR manufacturers are starting to run out of things to model.
sub39h Hi, I hope they do...I am desperate for a class 87 in new tooling. They can run with MK3 coaches so I would be interested in one of those.
The 85 wasn't for me either, too early an era.
The 86 is a nice looking model if you are not obsessed with the model being exactly correct. I had thought about one.
Yeah Dapol are broadening their range of catenary, but their range of cables are only going to be 200-250mm long, which will not be long enough between masts, if you're spacing them out to look kind of realistic.
I would welcome a new class 91...but Hornby don't seem to be intending it anytime soon, plus they are the only ones doing the MK4 coaches too, so we'll just have to put up with the 91/DVT as it is...which is no disaster really, apart from the lights, its still a good looking model.
DaveClass47 oh I would love a Class 91 as well. My first Hornby train set was the original 225 set and being from Leeds and a modern image modeller I would have to have at least one in my fleet. Sadly though unlike the Class 90 its narrow scope of operation means I think we might be waiting a while for one.
GNER used Class 90s with the Mk4 sets though, and the Mk4 coaches themselves aren't too bad with a little fettling. I model early 90s but I'll use a little modellers license and run a 90 with my Mk4 rake until a better 91 comes along. I think PH Designs is considering doing some etched bits for the 91 and DVT in the mean time, which I might have a go at depending on how brave I'm feeling and how likely a replacement is looking!
I think a replacement is not on the cards from Hornby, otherwise why would they just launch a new set of them. I am like you, would love to see one though. the OO Gauge MK4 coaches were really advanced when Hornby launched them, so they've lasted the test of time well.
Ah, I see the voiceless 'disliker' is back!!! Once again, no comment, no constructive feedback. I'd like to see their efforts to see where I am going wrong!
Don't pay any attention to silient armchair critics - you're doing a brilliant job and it's really enjoyable to watch the layout taking shape. Keep up the good work.
Yeah these twats are just sad individuals who cant be constructive. I am fine with people disliking, but tell me what you dislike and I can try to improve! lol
DaveClass47
Yep, exactly mate. Ignore em and just concentrate on the helpful comments.
