Hey Van. New to carving. But I appreciate your calm, logical progression of steps to a fun completion. People are either teachers or they are not. You certainly are a teacher. Thanks!
I started carving about 3 years ago after I retired. I came across your videos and I found them very helpful. Thanks for all you do. I have more trouble with eyes possibly because I carve mostly one inch material.
I have to say you have helped me understand how to carve an eye i have watched so many other videos and have not gotten it until i stubbled upon your videos
Keep up the good work
Ears. Ears are the hardest thing for me, and so many projects just avoid them altogether. Would love to see your approach to that anatomy.
Hey Van - thanks for these videos. I'd be interested in the freeform side being a series of mouths with different expressions such as happy, sad, goofy, pouty, kissing etc..
Thanks a lot for another valuable film!
For years I have enjoyd Doug Linker but just recently found your channel. I absolutely love the details you teach us. Incredible resource for learning! Thanks!
Your videos have been extremely helpful with my own carvings. I have been carving off and on for the past 10 years and now that I have more time (no kids around) I'm picking it up again. Thank you
Thanks for all you do Van. Study sticks are a great way to learn and I would love to have one of yours! Ears and noses are still a challenge for me so that's what I would love to have help with.
I just started carving 3 months ago. I saw your singing Christmas tree and was hooked. Every one that saw my carving of it wanted one. I just started watching you on u tube and love the way you explain your cuts. Obviously I would love your carving stick, but even if I’m not chosen, I will watch all your videos. Thank you for your inspiration.
Would love to have a study stick where there were eyes on one edge, nose, and mouth on still another, all showing emotion, and corresponding to each other. Sure appreciate the time you take to video document your work. Love the idea of a study stick and need to develop some. Thanks for sharing!
Always enjoy your carving instruction because it is straightforward, and easy to understand.
Thank you much!
Van, Thanks for all your wealth of knowledge and carving skills for us newbies. What a great give-a-way. I would like any style study stick for sure but maybe one on noses progressing down to adding a mouth/mustache. Thanks again for your informative tutorials.
Love your vids. I recently took up carving and struggle with the eyes on larger pieces vs the little 2 inch caricatures. I'd appreciate an open eye. Looking forward to more vids keep up the beautiful work and thanks for sharing your skills and time!
Thanks Van, love your content and I have one of your rough outs I'm going to start working on soon. A squinty happy eye like for a Santa would be great!
Your skills are amazing. I tend to carve gnomes, so I don’t have to carve eyes. I’ve learned to put some action in my mouths thanks to you.
Greatly appreciate your videos. 😊
I love watching your videos! You are a great inspiration to us young carvers. I would like to see a nose carved. Either way you choose will be fine. Thanks!
Your study sticks are great! Such a good idea. Very helpful.
I just roughed out the hillbilly letter opener and the bear letter opener! I’m so excited to try those. I often watch your Santa face carvings so I see how to do the mouth and checks under the eyes. I would like a study stick with cheeks and ears. ❤ keep carving !
Great explanation of why a study stick. I've kinda resisted for a while but I absolutely love your style of carving faces and this study stick will be an invaluable help to me.
Thanks again, smile with a cheek .thanks
Love all your videos! I’m new to wood carving and I’ve learning so much from you! Thank you! Eyes would be my choice for sure!❤️
I would like to see the eye of someone very surprised on my study stick. Thank you.
Thank you for all your videos! So helpful!
I love your videos, always a wealth of info and great teaching. Thank you! If I received the study stick, I’d want it to have the laughing eye on there, I have the most trouble with the eyes.
Thanks Van. I would like a nose carving.
Hi, Am new to carving. Would love a study stick. Visual aids are so much more helpful than a one time demonstration from a club member. Thanks for your videos and shorts. If I am the lucky winner, a side that has Mouths\Lips (some with teeth), would be great. Thanks for all you do for all us beginners.
A winking eye would be grand to see.
this will be a great gift. I watch your videos from Greece and I have learned a lot from them! thank you for your work!
Thanks for all your efforts and teaching. It’s appreciated.
I think I have watched all of your videos more than one time and have learned a lot from them. Thank for sharing your experience with us and keep it up.
Thank you for all the really great instructional content. I've been carving for about 5 years now and eyes are still a trouble spot for me.
Hi, I've been carving caricatures just under 2 years now and I'm a huge fan loving the way you explain every detail on each video. If I was lucky enough to win your study stick I would like more about mouths, hairy and non hairy and to show different expressions. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your videos 👍👋
I would have to agree with many, eyes are much more challenging for me. I've been wood carving for close to 8 years and, I've picked up alot from your techniques. I do better with wildlife: I made a White Dove for my wife, she could not beleive it, I used a hard grain mahogany wood, boy talk about a job and a half. I'm currently working on a Robin and, my main project: a Grizzley Bear, I decided to use a harder grain wood. I use basswood but, my bigger projects are with harder grain wood as it does not break or splinter as much as basswood.
I love watching your videos so full of interesting information it's a little more challenging for me to carve because I lost the sight in my right eye but I keep going thanks to your channel thank you for everything God bless
Smiling Eye. Thanks for doing this.
Van thank you so much for your commitment to teach us your skills, i struggle with eyes and bose.
Oohh I would love one of your study sticks... I had a nice Indian study stick years ago and used it all the time...
Thanks for sharing Van! I would like to see the Santa nose
I recently found your videos and really like them. I retired in 2012 and began carving. I have a problem with the eyes and the side of the nose going up to the eyes. I think that by studying the eyes would be most helpful. Thank you for the offer. My relatives enjoy the carvings that I give them.
Always learn a lot from your videos! I appreciate it.
Thank you for your videos...I would love a sample of eyes and ears as study stick examples.
Fun!=)
I'm currently trying to plan a carving where I need a missing eye, so a one eyed character, not sure how best to do it so a one eyed "pair" of eyes would be my choice=)
Hi Van, thanks for your tutorials. They very helpful to me as a new carver. The study stick is an excellent way to hone carving skills. I would like to have one of your study sticks. I always have a problem with eyes & noses. A study stick showing that would be very helpful. I watch your channel all the time. Thanks.
I would like eyes on mine. Most troublesome for me. Thanks Van!
I would definitely like to see eyes on the study stick. I appreciate your videos as they are very useful. Thanks!
Hi van thanks for all you do. I love your roughouts I have learned a lot from your videos. Thanks to you my eyes are pretty good. On the blank side I would like to see ear. Thanks Eric
Like that you added Basswood links to the site. as always thank you for sharing your skills with us. Your videos have helped my carving improve so much. Thanks again
I am so glad they have been a help!
These study sticks are amazing! ❤
Thanks for your videos, the quality and camera work is always top notch. I struggle with eyes and noses and that would be my choice on a study stick.
The transition area from nose to mouth cheek area 👍👍👍👍🍺😎
I am still a fairly new novice and would love a study stick with anything you might find most helpful for someone learning to carve wood… I appreciate all you do for the wood carving community and how much you have helped me already on this journey I am currently on
I just came across this channel. Of course I subscribed after seeing the first video. Wonderful work and great presentation!! Thank you!!
Great video as always, enjoy all your work, videos are top notch. clear, precise and just great a as a trainer for all levels. Happy Carving!
I am fairly new to carving, and have tried several of your roughouts. I have enjoyed doing the Santa with blanket. Introduced my bro in law to your carvings and he has carved multiples. He has carved many yrs and learned a few tips from you. Leaving a blank side is such a good idea to address a challenge area for a carver! Mine is eyes and checks, wrinkles.
I would like to see an ear study on the winning stick. Thanks for all you do .
The eyes are a definite problem area for me so plenty of eye examples would be my number one choice. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for the great offer and all your instructional videos! Great fun.
The eyes have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again, Van, for all you do for woodcarvers. I would like to see you carve an ear and mabe a left and right one. Thanks, John
Your videos are very helpful! A study stick with face, eyes and nose would be so helpful with making different expression. Keep up the great videos!
This was a great idea. I really like watching you.
I'm new to carving and am practicing facial features but would love a study stick for detailed eyes. Also, love your videos!
Thank you so much for your videos they have helped so much! I struggle with eyes.
What a very generous gesture Van. If I was chosen I would choose the ear. I feel I have sort of mastered the eye after watching your videos over and over I do find your method easy to follow.
Do you send your Basswood to Australia? We struggle to get it here.
really enjoy your videos because they are so instructive. I would like the study stick with step by step eyes.
Already subscribed and always enjoy your videos. Very instructive. I still struggle with open straight-on eyes and open mouths. But, practice, practice, practice. Thank you!
Love this idea. I’d like a winking eye, nose and smile.
Love your videos 🤙
I'd say eyes are still what I struggle with the most.
Have been watching your RUclips videos for a while now and really enjoy them. I have emailed you with questions and you always answer. I'm retired and have renewed my interest in carving. You have certainly helped with that.
If you would, please enter me for the Study Stick. I think I would like the blank side to be noses if I am chosen. At any rate, thank you for all your help. It's obvious of your love for carving and wanting to share with your knowledge.
Love your instructional videos. Well done! I would be interested in a winking eye. Thank you!
Thanks for the videos you put out. I started arcing a couple years ago and still have so far to go. My goal is to be able to do a great Santa nose.
Once again another great vid 👍👍👍
I love your channel Van, are you having the seminar this year in Norwood? I hope so. I am hoping for a study stick as I have problems with ears and getting them in the correct location ( on the head ). You are doing a great job.
A smiling eye or wink would be interesting. I hope I win! Thanks
Would love to see different types of hair carved on the study stick
I would love to learn different types of noses!
I enjoy your your channel it has helped in my caving eyes. , ears are hard thanks so much
Been a subscriber for a while but I can definitely hit the like button. If I won I’d like to see a boss or an ear. Keep up the good work and if I don’t win I’m going to buy one of these!
I truly enjoy your videos. I would like various eyes. I struggle with that more than anything else.
Thanks for the chance at an awesome giveaway.
Your study sticks are great! I would love to have a study stick with a female face.
Hi Van, I've just recently discovered your videos and appreciate your knowledge and tutelage. I am a fairly new carver and if I were to win the study stick I would appreciate your help with eyes and noses on the stick as they give me the most trouble. Thank you!
I have learned so much from watching your videos. I think a study stick would take me to the next level.
Study sticks are so helpful!
Ears and eyes. I just can't do them.
Love the videos. I have trouble with eyes, can't get them even.
Awesome.!!!
Eyes are definitely my weakness!
Good morning, I have a question first about finishing. If you're doing something with a lot of white, for instance a snowman or a Santa with a big beard, do you still use your finishing recipe? Relatively new carver but I'm really enjoying it. I would want a stick of facial expressions, esp of eyes and mouths. Thanks for all you do to teach the rest of us how to get better. Kind of like golf, I think; you can get better and maybe even expert but there's always room to keep improving! Love it.
I have been enjoying and learning from your videos. I think a nose would be a good companion to the eyes on a study stick
Thanks for doing your videos. I have been carving for a few years now, but I ain't no good at it. You have helped me tremendously. I would like to have noses on the blank side please. Like I said, I ain't no good at them. Thanks
Thank you very much for your informative videos!
Well, I prefer practicing in eyes or ears cause it's the most difficult part for me. So, eyes and ears mostly. Thank you once again!
Great content, an ear on the stick.
An eye with a high, raised eyebrow. A "surprised" eye.
Nose variations would be great to see on the stick. Young, old, eccentric, whimsicle, ladies....
I have to follow the group. Eyes are my Achilles heel. Trying to cut them in, getting the eye groove without destroying the top of the nose, and cutting out the eyeballs.
If I would get your study stick I would love it if you would carve a nose on the blank section you left open to carve, thank you for doing videos for us and sharing your skill.
Love the sticks!
And if I am lucky enough, I would request the braid from a few months ago be added to the study stick you mentioned.
I've hit like on every one of your videos as they always are helpful .
I'm already subscribed. .....
I've seen your stick but guilty of not doing one my but know it's great advice and certainly I planning on doing eyes as they are some thing I'm afraid to destroy my character up after getting it " close enough:", perhaps I should try to finish stronger.
I'm thinking happy eyes that look like they can blink😅
..
