Thanks for making this one. Just the kind of information no one else is providing at this depth right now!

I do prefer the warehouse in Atliplano to the deeds board in Orleans. I never liked that someone could snag a deed out from under you after you've put most of the work into it. I understand that it's par of the risk, but it feels unbalanced in Orleans.

Not a word about the (granted *very* pasted-on) theme? I love that Llama, and the colorful patterns. That alone pushes me more towards altiplano, over generic Europe medieval art.

Using the expansions with Orleans, which combo of modules do you feel give the best experience? Does it change with the number of players? Maybe we could get a "why I love Orleans"?

i feel like altiplano is much faster especially with more players, you can basically play it quasi-simultaneously, just need to check with others if they're picking up the same tech as you want, and towards the end of the game when resources run out. a quick discussion after planning phase is sufficient then everybody executes their actions. people can even draw their next hand without waiting for the current turn to finish. downtime the is definitely less.

Nice one, my problem is that only Orleans with invasion now is soloable, the other didn't even consider the fact that there are freaking solo gamers out there 🤦🤦🤦🤦

Will you be doing a review of Justice League: Dawn of Heroes? It was on your anticipated list for Essen and I saw in one of your unboxing videos that you got a copy.
I had a copy brought back for me but not had the chance to look too deeply into it. Having gone through the Tutorial I have a bad feeling it isn't going to be great.

Would the discard box system work with Orleans or would it break the game?

I'd say you could use it but I think the point of the city board (can't remember what it's called) that you send unwanted workers to is how you mitigate not pulling the right thing from your bag each time and making your efforts more efficient. Those monks don't turn up all the time so get rid of some of your other guys and they will...
I think 'donating/dismissing' workers just somehow at odds with most gamers thoughts of just trying to amass more stuff. It's a different approach to the standard 'use everything and reset' method.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it :)

Much prefer altiplano. Dislike the quasi area control in Orleans as well as scoring each token being a better scoring mechanism imo.

like you say, Orleans has more going on and Altiplano is just resource driven. I agree now with your deck building analogy for Altiplano, I see what you mean. I really like Orleans more for interaction as well. I'm a little disappointed in this RS release but I'll definitely stay interested for his next. Peace

I appreciate this comparison, although I wish Tom was more absolute and objective. Saying he is keeping both means nothing when he has a flipping whole wall of games behind him.

ni ko it means exactly the opposite. he has too many games, he doesn't need any, he culled his collection to the essentials, and only keep those which are truly great.

I kinda figured this also from what I saw so far. Thank you Tom very helpful and I will gladly stick with Orleans.

As a huge fan of Orleans, Altiplano looks like a big pass to me. I love the idea of building up my engine and seeing if it can out pace the other players at the table. This can be seen on the different tracks or trading posts on the board. This is even greater when using the new good deeds board in the second expansion. It's makes it more significant when you take certain actions to make sure you don't get denied something.
