I played baseball from age 4 until the end of high school. Many times, I played year round. I never once kicked a first basemen when trying to beat out a throw to first.
@@kendallevans4079 Yeah, he didn't live up to the contract that's for sure, but blame the Angels for that. He was near the end of his prime when they signed him and he put up good numbers for a few years before the decline really hit. Even so, his 10 years at St. Louis are enough to get him in by themselves.
@@caamlsaurio9395 Stanton is slow and while it may physically hurt him to run, it doesn't look painful like Albert looked for nearly the entire 2nd half of his career. Albert just always looked like Jake Taylor running out that little squib at the end of Major League lol
If I remember correctly, the following night during pregame warmups, Pujols was talking to Puig about the play. A teaching moment from a first ballot HOFer.
100% agree, we have it in my softball league and it saves a lot of collisions. I wouldn't even say what Puig did was dirty. He was hustling and his right leg was on the bag rather than his left meaning his left would be the one driving though and he drove through normally. Unfortunately Pujols' left was there. Can't do anything about that without a safety bag
I agree, if a 1st baseman his huge feet they can take up a 1/3rd of the bag if rushed. I accidentally stepped on a few because I was taught to hit the inside corner.
Pujols was just a smart ball player. It’s why he was such good friends with yadi and that they formed thatlihjts out pick off from behind the batter to first play. Neither were fast but both could be deadly the second you stop paying attention. Always a few steps ahead… mentally.
The Dodgers may have been Vin Scully's team, but he was never a homer. If he saw a great play be someone on the other team he would never downplay it, and he would be the first to call out the Dodgers' mistakes. He was about as unbiased in his coverage as it is possible to be.

only machado and puig has done this from what I can remember. they're both great players, but horrible people. would never want to be around them tbh
This is a perfect example of how hustle and meticulous attention beats talent that is not applied to it’s fullest potential.
Why Albert is going to the Hall and why Puig went nowhere. Plus, boy I miss Vin.
As an Angel fan believe me when I say this is/was one of the VERY few highlights Pujol had while here.

Albert is the only baseball player in which it physically hurt me to watch him run him run.
Do You know Stanton?
You beat me to it@@caamlsaurio9395

Going to add that kick to Pujols' leg as another example for why we should just have the safety bag at 1st Base. It has no downside.

They work good. We had them playing softball growing up.
Yes but too many fragile male egos don't want to be seen a soft

We miss you, Vin!!
I remember watching sportcenter and i always thought puig was the best player man i miss them times ,😂
With his God-given genetics and overall talent, he very well could have been.
Garbage
I watched this game live, and it was embarrassing. Zach Grienke threw his luggage off the team bus while moving because of his crappy attitude.

Vin Scully was the best.
Or he just momentarily forgot that there was a guy on first base.
You shouldnt be surprised Vin did that. Vin was never, ever a homer.
Like I don't get it you get paid 7 figures and you don't take it seriously. It just make the up and coming guys look bad.
I love Puig... But come on man
Hi
even a hobbled pujols was a menace on the basepaths, crazy speed demon of the 2000s
Where is Puig playing now?
Retired
He will playing for Kiwoom Heroes of KBO in the 2025 season.
@@TonyCrenshawsLatte Thanks. Great stuff. Seriously. The dude was a really good player. I thought that he may be out of baseball.
