I am not a train enthusiast but recently started to watch your channel I never knew there were some many steam trains came to Carlisle or passed through.
Thanks for looking in! Yes there are often two or three steam trains in per week especially over the summer. Apart from a few weeks in winter, hardly a week goes by without one.
great video Les superb filming nice mixture as well really enjoyed it , the black 5 looked and sounded awesome thanks for sharing Les top man do take care a t b syd👍
0:52 - 1:10 beautifully illustrates that golf influenced song 'Straight Down The Middle'. Is that Black 5 the only preserved loco with non-standard smokebox plates? Did you realise that the service back from Appleby was a palindrome? I wonder how many waiting to go South would have been quicker to take Northern to Leeds and then TPE to Manchester?
Thanks! When lines are closed for engineering I dont think logic oor speed of travel comes into the operator's thinking. The Scottish Region numberplate comes, I assume, from that loco having been used on the Jacobite in the past.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways Now that's intriguing. I was 20 when steam ended in Scotland and right to the end, my area's locos had standard white on black smokebox plates. So I'm wondering where this 'Scottish Region' coloured numberplate originated. I do not believe it to be historic.
@@roboftherock I don't have info to hand and would have to ask around, but my understanding was that certain shed did put blue front numberplates on locos.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways Les, I found a book in my local library 'Stanier Black Five Locomotives'. There are pictures of 44871 pre- and post-preservation. All show the stadard white-on-black smokebox plates. Your earlier assumption may well be right. If that's the case then WRC have created a false and non-heritage visual in a heritage railway setting.
It was a lovely day but 2 hours would be a long wait there with nothing to do. Nice they had to use a Black 5. I wondered how long Tangmere would last with all the runs it has been doing recently

i seen you today at carlisle on plat 4 and 2, the test train was nice to see
Yes it was - a regular visitor too.
Those 156's don't half speed along on their way to Dumfries 😊 Good catch with the Prestwick tanks.
I;d hoped to get the Prestwick tanks again but rain and bad light put paid to that
Who needs a Pacific when a "go anywhere, do anything", 10-wheeler Black 5 (complete with masculine-sounding whistle) can do the job perfectly well?
Love a Black 5
@@LeslieGilpinRailways Yeah, Black 5s & 37s: paradise
nice video Les! a lot of sweet catches :)
Glad you enjoyed

Nice one Les , good to see 44871 with Tangmere having some maintenance work 👍🎥
It sure is. I hadn't realised Tangmere had been unavailable!
Always fun to watch the different trains. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks I;m glad you enjoy them
Do love watching your vlogs and the video camcorder. The Sony, AX 53's very good pictures.
Excelente video amei movimentação de trem 27:26
Thanks
Loved the birds at Etterby
Always a lot of avian noise
Do you use two cameras when trains pass under bridges, never miss your posts thanks
Sometimes. Depends where I'm at. Here it was all done with one camera. If I'm somewhere quiet then I put one on the tripod.
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
I went to Hellifield to see the steam train on ECS from Carnforth to Carlisle was disappointed to see 44871 really wanted to see Tangmere.
For me it was the opposite - Tangmere has been heading north quite frequently of late, being West Coast's only Air Braked loco. But hey its steam!

@@LeslieGilpinRailways OK, Les. It will be interesting to learn what you come up with. Possibly someone else reading these will know.

Can't beat a Black 5! I agree Tangmere has been overworked of late
Fresh delays and confusion today with a freight train derailed at Hardendale!
Yes it did cause problems along with a landslip on the Tyne Valley route
where is this 1:34 location
North of the city behind the tip on a back road to Rockcliffe
@@LeslieGilpinRailways What a lovely description. So precise!!
