To everybody: There's been a recent video Kanri did about flag poles and where you can touch them in this game for maximum optimization. When this speedrun was made, the theory was that you need to be below the flag to save the most time. The idea came from the previous NSMB games where it effects how long it takes for Mario to slide down the pole. That old theory is now obsolete for this specific game. And it makes me wonder if NSMB W should be tested as well, considering they have nearly exact same physics. However, NSMB does not need to be tested, nor does NSMB 2.
Thanks to everyone on the replies to the previous pin! I will in fact come back to this game and try to beat the record. I'll probably handle it the same way I did before where I will stream attempts on Twitch and will upload anything newsworthy to RUclips. Hey guys, there's been a lot going on here recently and it's made me wonder - are you guys interested in either: - Me attempting to regain the World Record from the current holder - Me doing some kind of content with regards to Super Mario Maker 2 I'd be open to give both a shot but I'm wondering if any of you watching this video have a preference towards either.
Trying to take back the world record would probably be very time consuming, getting it to begin with probably was also tedious, I’d go with Mario Maker 2 to change up the pace.
Not true actually, especially after 2012 most speedruns are done as a Real Time Attack (RTA) where human-played real time is measured. TAS require a) an Emulator of the console b) way more time and effort than most people can be bothered to. TAS in general have the mention of TAS somewhere in their title, while most speedruns nowadays are played by humans, with a lot of practice behind their backs.

I don't want to sound unentertained, but this is surprisingly unspectacular. This game is relatively new, so there are no crazy glitches (Super Mario World). Most usual kinds of horizontal movement have the same speed, so there's no need for crazy movement tricks (Super Mario 64). It's in 2D, so you rarely have to search a route or can skip parts (Super Mario Galaxy). But a speedrun is always fun, so I watch it anyway.
Since this does get asked a lot I will just put a little pin here to help out: There's a hiccup in the footage around 22 minutes into the video. @@goongalar You're probably confusing what a speedrun is with what a TAS is. TAS (Tool Assisted Speedruns) use, as the name suggests, tools to perform perfect inputs from start to finish to test a games boundaries. A real time speedrun (such as this one) is played by a person (in this case, me) in real life with no breaks or other means to stop and do over if something didn't go my way (other than completely resetting and starting over from scratch). The reason why this was, and still is, world record is because no one else has yet beaten the game in under 3:28:35 real time, because playing 94 Exits while making minimal errors in execution is difficult, requires taking risks which encourages dying due to self-imposed tougher executions and a lot of effort because you have to memorize the optimal route through all 94 exits in the first place before even factoring in execution.
@Quel Gamer Mancato I actually refunded NSMBU Deluxe after playing it for a while. They unfortunately made changes to the control scheme for the worse. Namely, binding the midair twirl to the same button as jump, causing it to sometimes happen when you press and hold jump once and other times it won't happen. This makes precise execution rather unfun and if I feel inclined to improve this game at all I'd do it on the original, though I lack the time due to real life goals and obligations.

Really enjoyed this. I love 100% runs despite the length. I did think it a little odd they make you watch the credits, say it's 'The End' and then tell you 'Here's another 9 maps you have to play'. You don't go into the Toad houses, why is that?

It's a very solid run, even though it can still be improved by 5+ minutes fixing all the major flaws such as losing the Squirrel Suit power-up at the worst possible times, and missing the big coins on first attempts. I still love this run because it is the fastest currently, and the strat that's being used is nearly perfect if it's mapped out. I just think a 3:25:XX or faster is possible.
There's no missed Star Coins or second attempts. Every Star Coin that isnt gotten on the first run through the level I got on the second because the level has two exits and its faster to take some coins on the first and some on the second depending on where the exit is.
I wasn't really referring to which run you grabbed the Star Coin on, but rather the literal moment you actually attempted to grab them. Sometimes you would jump up (or whatever your movement is) and miss it first try. And not that it's a huge deal but the time for even that does add up. But really, the main time kills were when you had lost the squirrel suit power-up (obviously on accident). I would personally attempt to improve it, but it looks like it's very hard to, and I simply don't own the game (or the console for that matter). However, with all that said, I still absolutely enjoyed the run. It's also a plus that this run keeps EwallerTV from having the world record on 100% considering he has it in New Super Luigi U and the Any% run in both games ;)

I don't want to sound unentertained, but this is surprisingly unspectacular. This game is relatively new, so there are no crazy glitches (Super Mario World). Most usual kinds of horizontal movement have the same speed, so there's no need for crazy movement tricks (Super Mario 64). It's in 2D, so you rarely have to search a route or can skip parts (Super Mario Galaxy). But a speedrun is always fun, so I watch it anyway.

Parental warning though, that video has commentary and I used to be a bit on the hotheaded sweary side as a 21 year old because I was both new to streaming and a bad loser, I am quite sure I didn't really swear much at all that run but who knows I might've slipped an F word or two.

@@goongalar You're probably confusing what a speedrun is with what a TAS is. TAS (Tool Assisted Speedruns) use, as the name suggests, tools to perform perfect inputs from start to finish to test a games boundaries. A real time speedrun (such as this one) is played by a person (in this case, me) in real life with no breaks or other means to stop and do over if something didn't go my way (other than completely resetting and starting over from scratch).
The reason why this was, and still is, world record is because no one else has yet beaten the game in under 3:28:35 real time, because playing 94 Exits while making minimal errors in execution is difficult, requires taking risks which encourages dying due to self-imposed tougher executions and a lot of effort because you have to memorize the optimal route through all 94 exits in the first place before even factoring in execution.

@Quel Gamer Mancato I actually refunded NSMBU Deluxe after playing it for a while. They unfortunately made changes to the control scheme for the worse. Namely, binding the midair twirl to the same button as jump, causing it to sometimes happen when you press and hold jump once and other times it won't happen. This makes precise execution rather unfun and if I feel inclined to improve this game at all I'd do it on the original, though I lack the time due to real life goals and obligations.

Really enjoyed this. I love 100% runs despite the length. I did think it a little odd they make you watch the credits, say it's 'The End' and then tell you 'Here's another 9 maps you have to play'.

I think this explains very well why the acorn suit must disappear forever
It's a very solid run, even though it can still be improved by 5+ minutes fixing all the major flaws such as losing the Squirrel Suit power-up at the worst possible times, and missing the big coins on first attempts.
I still love this run because it is the fastest currently, and the strat that's being used is nearly perfect if it's mapped out. I just think a 3:25:XX or faster is possible.
There's no missed Star Coins or second attempts. Every Star Coin that isnt gotten on the first run through the level I got on the second because the level has two exits and its faster to take some coins on the first and some on the second depending on where the exit is.
I wasn't really referring to which run you grabbed the Star Coin on, but rather the literal moment you actually attempted to grab them. Sometimes you would jump up (or whatever your movement is) and miss it first try. And not that it's a huge deal but the time for even that does add up.
But really, the main time kills were when you had lost the squirrel suit power-up (obviously on accident).
I would personally attempt to improve it, but it looks like it's very hard to, and I simply don't own the game (or the console for that matter).
However, with all that said, I still absolutely enjoyed the run. It's also a plus that this run keeps EwallerTV from having the world record on 100% considering he has it in New Super Luigi U and the Any% run in both games ;)
