There are now over a half of dozen things so far that we have both done as far as purchasing or ideas on how to combine trains etc, You literally bought the Alaska Train cars the day before I went back to purchase them is one example, Love the Bureau of Mine Cars on the coal train I did the same thing!

That's quite an assortment! Personally I like the look of the short tender with the I1. I know the "coast-to-coast" tender is historically correct but in my humble opinion the short tender just looks nicer, the long tender seems to unbalance the model. No biggie, it's what you like that counts!

I got the #4241 I may also pick up the #4652 to have both prewar long tender versions but my #4241 is having issues with the gearbox I believe unfortunately after an hour or two of running

@@ChrissTrainsandThings is what it is but judging by Norm’s video it may be as simple as shimming the motor
It's imperative to grease the gearboxes on the new Lionel steamers .
There's typically little if any grease and most of it is usually stuck to the side of the gearbox and not on the gears.
These I1s ,theL1s ,and any Lionel steamer with the compound gearbox can take 2.5-3.0 ml of grease in order to lube the 3 gears and reach the worm gear on the motor shaft.
How much money did the Iron Hippo set sell for or how much were they in the catalog
This set was bought at Nicholas Smith Trains. Their price is 2049.99 which is less than Lionel MSRP , and they are still showing it as in stock .
