(1) Engineering Marvels: Building Route 495 Thru the New Jersey Palisades to the Lincoln Tunnel

We go deep into the history of present day Route 495 between North Bergen, NJ and the entrance to the LIncoln Tunnel in Weehawken, NJ.
The depressed highway is an engineering marvel that dramatically reduced travel times between Manhattan and various points in New Jersey.
Construction of the highway involved blasting a one-mile trench through the center of Union City, NJ and a huge curved viaduct descending 122 ft. from the top of the Palisades to the Lincoln Tunnel.
The entire 2.5 mile expressway opened in 1939 and is used by over 150,000 vehicles daily.

Cool video. Thanks! I put together a Facebook post about the Airline Highway-Causeway Boulevard interchange in New Orleans, saying it was the only three-level roundabout interchange in the US. Then someone put me onto the Kennedy Boulevard interchange.
This highway used to be I-495 until they gave up on the idea of cutting an Interstate highway across Midtown Manhattan. There's still at least one I-495 shield at the Kennedy Boulevard interchange, though.
