Bears' fan since '65. Sayers and Butkus were the Best Ever at their positions. I'm 63YO, seen alot of Football, but those 2 Bears were Amazing to watch.
Hands down ..nolo contendre . Love this man. My father and older brother Bart showed me his NFL Films and told me "play like him!- I did and have lived my 55 years with that ferocity. Finally met my idol and Son Matt 2 months ago at a NJ convention. What a thrill. Thanks Dick...no one like u....Love ya man Matt Mad Dog Sweeney New York
If you ever want to watch video of football the way it was meant to be played watch Dick Butkus videos. His tenacity and viciousness are unparalleled. It is some of the best football you will ever see.
I really wish i could meet this man one day. I've been watching him for decades. I wore out a vhs tape back in the 90's. I would watch it before every HS football game, getting myself tuned up. I just want to tell him thank you.
Greatest linebacker ever by far, and possibly the greatest defensive player period - Dick had a natural feel for the game, a predatory instinct that you can't coach!
If you want to know Dick Butkus, you 1st have to travel to Chicago and go in a circle around the intersection of 66th & Western Avenue (the old Polish neighborhood). Get to know the people and their ways. It's a glimpse into what America was and should continue to be. Fast forward to "The Bears". My buddies and I would occasionally skip school (Robert A. Waller) and go to Lincoln Park to watch the Bears practice. Actually we were going to watch Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers. True, Gale was the "show" but Dick was the "intensity". These days I live just North of Los Angles, but still can't get away from Butkus. If you like his playing prowess, just know that his celebrity follows him here. So much so, he did commercials for several years, some of them being for auto dealerships. On one contract, Dick did a series of commercials for an auto dealer in North Hollywood. When it was time to pay up, the guy tried to stiff Butkus. This resulted in Dick going to the dealership, grabbing the dealer the by the scruff of the neck, driving him to the dealer's bank, and telling him to get a cashiers check. Needless to say, a check was forthcoming and no charges were filed. Dick went on to do auto commercials with a local BMW dealer with great success and an equally great relationship. Nice to know that good things never change.
3 of the Players I mentioned, Butkus, Sayers and Payton, were voted in the Top 25 of the 100 Greatest All Time NFL Players. Singletary and Urlacher were Great Bears' MLBers but neither one was Butkus. If you'd seen all 3 play, like I have, you'd know what I'm talking about. Hester is not a HOFer. I'm not sure he belongs in the HOF, even though he was Electrifying.
What a great tribute to a mighty family. We miss you in Deland Fl at St Peters church My deepest sadness to Helen and the children Dick is now in Gods embrace. Your sister in Christ Joyce Latham
RIP Monster of the Midway...Dick and Gale Sayers made watching those bad Bears teams of the mid 60s worthwhile. There will never be another that could compare as by far the best that ever did it.
One night I was blessed to cook for Mr Butkis, Ray Nitschke, andI believe was paul Horning at the same table, and Butkis features looked huge compared to ray , and of course they were 2 of the best ever.
I remember in the 60’s my parents wanted to remodel our kitchen two of the guys who did it were Browns players and the other guy was a fireman all of them were the nicest guys and that was from 10 year old eyes they would go outside to eat the lunches they brought and then would throw passes and play some street football with all the kids in the neighborhood
@@kevingumfory I'm 62 YO. Total agreement. I've quit the NBA. It's a Joke. Euro Step, My Ass. I'd love to see James drive the lane against Sloan and Van Lier. He'd be on his ASS every time. MLB I'm done with, too. But I still love My Bears and watch every Sunday. Butkus, Sayers, Payton and Hampton are My Mt. Rushmore of Bears HOFers in My lifetime. These were Men that played the Game of Football the Correct Way and didn't seek or want any Glory doing it. True Stars of the Game. Thinking about McMichael alot lately, too. Met him in a Bennigan's about 17 years ago. Great Dude. God Bless Him. He's also a HOFer, in My Book. I miss the kind of Football that those guys played. They did their jobs and that was it. None of this Nancy Celebrating after every play. It's sickening. Sayers scored 6 TDs in 1 game. SIX TDs in 1 GAME. He didn't jump up and Dance around like an Idiot. Or run and pose with his Teammates. He dropped the ball or flipped it to the Ref and went to the sidelines to celebrate with his Teammates there. Those days are long gone, I'm sorry to say. Stay Young.
Dick did not take cocaine or use steroids. He drank some beer which is legal . That is not what Lawrence Taylor did . This is why I call Dick Butkus the best Linebacker EVER “
Taylor was a Glorified DE in a 3/4 Defense, meaning His main job was to Rush the QB. Otherwise, how do you explain His 130+ career QB Sacks. At any rate, He was an OLB, not a MLB. Had a paltry 9 career INTs to Butkus' 22 and 11 career FRs to Butkus' 27, while playing 13 seasons to Butkus' 9.
Don't forget that LT played on a super bowl winning team and Butkus played on the worst team in the league .Butkus and Gale Sayers carried that team. Could you imagine if they kept track of fumbles that he created?@@carlweaver3243

1 vs. 4 super bowl championships, and the Bears don't win at Lambeau Field, so hell no we have no sympathy for the Packers when they blow it in the playoffs nor do we care to make nice with them. Go Bears! f Packers!
What?!?! The Bears leaving Soldier Field? What rock have I been under?! Thats like the Packers leaving Lambeau just no! As a fan of the Pack i insist they stay in Chicago. That field is a cornerstone of NFL history. I may not be a fan of Chicago as a city but its definitely part of the Bears personality as a team. It just wouldnt feel like its the Bears anymore. Hell I'd contribute to a donation to keep the Bears there.

ONE OF THE ALL-TIME “GREAT” CHICAGO BEARS PLAYERS, #51 DICK BUTKUS. “THANK YOU” FOR THE MEMORIES. WHAT A “GREAT” PLAYER.
I love this guy. Hard man on the field. Great player. Great man.
This aged well

The BEST! Just watching Mr.Butkus play would get you all Amped up! One of a kind.
Butkus, Sayers, Payton and Hampton. The Mt. Rushmore of Bears' HOF Players in My Lifetime. IMO.
I agree with this, although leaving out Urlacher and Singletary seems wrong based on their numbers and impact.
Devin Hester

On that Bears' 46 Defense, no one was more important than Dan Hampton.
@@carlweaver3243 Hampton was unstoppable in Techmo Bowl

Excellent tribute! From his own words.
It's been a long time since he wore the uniform, but he still has a commanding presence.
This is a great video. Good stuff. Football is not the same today. We had a lot of hard hitters back then, but this guy would intimidate you.

Rest in peace to this legend.
Dick buktus made me love the game of football because he was all in when he played and I loved watching him
Dick, you're the greatest LB of all time. Period!

Every time I stepped on to the field when I played in high school I tried my hardest to be Dick Butkus.
He is A Great Guy
I remember Dick Butkus for all his acting roles post NFL. May he rest in peace
The greatest player of football ever.
RIP to The Great One, a true and genuine Chicago Original.

The difference between Butkus and LT was the only way to beat LT was to run directly at him. No team ever tried to run at Butkus. 🍻
