      El 1.6 es el unico upgrade que se le puede hacer por tema de la caja de cambio y demás?

      @theadamtron 3 года назад

      @@OutAboutOffroad while the m16a gives better performance from what I've read. Due to the engine block being based on the same casting, a M16a cylinder head can be bolted onto a M18a shortblock while using the stock internals (crank, pistons and rods) in a Suzuki Swift Sport, in order to have more torque on the whole rev band. Now you know as much as me! Haha

    I notice you removed the engine with the Torque Converter still attached to the engine instead of unbolting in from the flex plate. When you refitted the new engine, did you slip the TC into the gearbox first and did you have to check/adjust the torque converter backlash at all? Thanks in advance

    • @OutAboutOffroad
      @OutAboutOffroad  Год назад +1

      yup we goofed on that. No need to worry about backlash - the TC just slips onto the input shaft and is keyed into the pump drive sleeve. Depth is set by bolting to the flex plate and we confirmed there was no difference in the crank profile at the rear of the block. Sealing is done by o rings and was easy to fit back onto the transmission, it's a well designed setup which isn't fussy about removal of the TC👌

    Hi guys, just picked up a 2015 Swift sports engine for a 2015 Jimny. Lucky I saw this before we started hacking away as I had no idea about the trigger wheel issue.
    Was the Haltech upgrade a bolt in job? Was there a base map available to get it running straight away? I’m wondering if it’s worth putting the money in now instead of swapping over the internals. Cheers

    • @OutAboutOffroad
      @OutAboutOffroad  2 года назад

      Hey Ben no a haltech is definitely not bolt in, but while there's a learning curve for sure any performance shop that does haltechs would find doing one of these a cinch. I think if we had our time over John would do the trigger wheel swap, but you'll need to figure out what to do with the ignition coils because the M13A used wasted spark with one coil per two cylinders. I think just connecting the trigger wires for the pairs of independent coils on the M16A would be okay but make sure to measure the resistance of a pair of coils first, if it's much lower than a single m13 coil it'll burn out the ECU. It can still be done but you'll need to work out a MOSFET circuit to trigger them. Hit me up if you go that way, I can build one for you, or at least put together a design! Tim

    • @OutAboutOffroad
      @OutAboutOffroad  Год назад

      The 1.3 head has a wasted spark setup and different coils to the 1.6, but you can wire the coils in pairs and it should be okay. Apart from that an intake manifold off a Vitara should get you going. You'll have a few fiddly things like the EGT valve to deal with which the ECU will expect - probably delete that and put a 1K resistor in place of the control solenoid. Can't remember what else there was

    The other alternative and it would be more work would be to replace the 1300 conrods with the 1600 conrods because the only difference in the engines is the stroke. Bore is the same and according to the specs the journals are the same. Can you change pistons without lifting the head? But then the swift head has higher compression. Good job with the second battery by the way.

    • @OutAboutOffroad
      @OutAboutOffroad  4 года назад

      Wanted the full power from the 1.6. the main difference is the VVTI tone wheel so to try run it with the 1.3 ECU you need the head AND to pull the crank shaft and swap the tone wheel

    • @OutAboutOffroad
      @OutAboutOffroad  4 года назад

      And nope, can't change the pistons without taking the head off. If you had a 1.3 and didn't want to be sourcing a 1.6, swapping conrods and pistons should be doable.. would be the same as putting a stroker kit through any engine I imagine, but you would have to confirm the compression ratio isn't too far off spec with the 1.3 head to cause problems.

      Hey Ben, will publicly respond as it may help others. With 1.6 engines you have a couple of choices. If you aren't willing/can't afford to change the ECU then you want either an M15A or an M16A (pre 2011) EZ / RS416. These are rare these days as they were in the new defunct Liana and older swift sports. The swift sport 1.6 was to find but have the same trigger wheels as the M13A but I think you still need to swap some other components. The Jimny ECU will run it but not optimally. An M15A is a simpler, more available option as they were also used on Holden Cruze rebadges of Suzuki Ignis. So if you're planning on having someone else do the engine swap work, the M15A is the easiest and closest to the M13A as far as allowing the stock ECU to cope with it properly.
      If you're willing to do the ECU and all then an M16A FZ is a good option or an M18A. More torque from the M18A but the M16A FZ is a better engine than the M15A and M16A EZ, performance wise. The M18A will be the easier swap as it's a similar age design where as the FZ is a newer design and more complicated. With the custom ECU we were able to keep the engine in tact and just bolt on all the cross compatible components. You have to be comfortable with wiring for this option and there is a lot more spend in getting the custom ECU setup/tuned etc, but the potential is much greater.
      It is possible to swap the trigger wheels, rocker cover etc from an FZ and M13A but it is far and away the harder approach with more risk.
