  • So, if Romanovs were not called Romanovs originally then why did they decide to take that name?

      This video is not talking about the end of patrilineal bloodline after the death of Elizaveta Petrovna but about the fact that Romanov's literally were never called Romanovs. They were Zakhar'evs, Yuryevs, earlier even Koshkin. God knows what's their real surname. Romanovs became Romanovs only in the 20th century which is rather fascinating in my opinion

      @@fromtherussianpointofview but if we’re talking about them from historical point I would say yes, in the sense that they were part of the Romanov dynasty in terms of a historical group however, in fact, the Russian branch of the Holstein family, which itself was a branch of the German House of Oldenburg, which has ruled over Denmark since the 15th century

      @@sidp5381 Oh, absolutely but everyone (or everyone who cares at least) knows that. But the fact that Romanovs were never Romanovs and came up with this name by the end of their rule usually take people by surprise 😄
