  • This physics video tutorial explains the concept of simple harmonic motion. It focuses on the mass-spring system and shows you how to calculate variables such as amplitude, frequency, period, maximum velocity, maximum acceleration, restoring force, spring constant k, spring potential energy, kinetic energy, and mechanical energy in addition to describing the motion of the mass-spring system using a sinusoidal function such as sine or cosine. This video contains plenty of examples problems.
    Chapters:
    0:00 - Introduction
    2:46 - Spring-Mass system definitions
    3:58 - Stretching and Compressing
5:45 - Hooke's Law and Free Body Diagram
    11:21 - Newton's 2nd Law and acceleration
13:54 - Equations for position, velocity, acceleration
17:21 - Example problem: Calculating angular frequency, frequency, and period.
24:35 - Sketching graphs for position, velocity, and acceleration for simple harmonic motion
    30:15 - Problem 1
38:15 - Work done by Gravity vs Work done by a spring
45:22 - Potential Energy stored in the spring
48:29 - Conservation of Mechanical Energy

which equation is angular vs natural frequency? I have seen both w and w_0 used and it is very confusing. does it change between damped and undamped motion?

      w ( angular freq)/ (2pi)= f (linear frequency)
