/ mgcrosscars - RARE 1981 DELOREAN DEALER SALES VIDEO ( PT I ) - FEATURES UNRELEASED DMC-12 PROTOTYPE DELOREAN - ORIGINAL VHS FORMAT - COMPLETE ( FULL VIDEO )
This was likely more like 1979. The car was eventually known as just the "DeLorean", where here it's known as the "DMC-12". But this seems to be a video to encourage dealers to sign up, which would have been way before 1981, as this is when DeLoreans were selling.
Not really even in their promo showcasing their prototype video that's from the seventies they refer to the car as a DeLorean they actually toggled the DMC 12 and the DeLorean name back and forth of course it was really primarily after the company went bust and everyone seen Back to the Future years later that everyone commonly really then wanted to call it a DeLorean but as far as DeLorean motor company went it was either or but it was more so the DMC 12!!
This music was very modern in the early 80’s, and an example of modernist/minimalist style and the “technological future” that the people of that time felt was the future. In an artistic sense, this music is quite attractive to the ears; Think “Com Truise” or if you’re older, “Tangerine Dream”.
Now I truly understand that S.A.I.N.T. Number 5 was clearly inspired by the DeLorean. I have a new appreciation for Short Circuit, which was one of my favorite films as a child.
They were originally designed to have the rotary engine because they were light and powerfull but the engine change came after the early 80's U.S.fuel crisis as the down side to these engines were that they were thirsty because they had to rev high for that power. Had they of had these engines then they would have been very fast and handled far better than most of the performance cars of the day. They were built across the road from my granparents flat in Dunmurry , peace !
This car could take America out of financial ruin. It's time to start manufacturing this once again on a large scale - with todays technology - and of course - a FLUX Capacitor.
Im video bei die 9:59 minute ist das innenraum etwas andere als die bekanten Delorean innenraum ,auch das lenker ,what exactly happened? the first models were like that and changed after 1980?
These videos are simply fantastic, and so awful... A piece of car making history... Impressive computer graphics for the time. This is before 81 for sure: the car design was not even completed... This looks like a "We plan to ..." marketing tool to get the dealerships to jump in, and also to provide complementary fundings with a mandatory 25K investment for dealership acceptance. Plus a dealership base to get the additional fundings. Great stuff for Delorean car history fans!
Toaster how do you figure it was a terrible car? Is it something that you read it and made you believe that it was? I have had mine for 14 years and it's practically a daily driver and I drive it to work twice a week at a 164 miles a day across two states to get to work and I've never had any reliability issues. You should get your facts straight first before you say they were a terrible car and a lot of people like to talk trash about this car because they never experienced one and find out that they are actually quite reliable
Tibor Roussou there is still plenty of Fieros out there and it was far from a dangerous car. The early cars had issues because they were brand-new and using a 4-cylinder and didn't have a heat shield for the wiring harness and when it leaks oil out onto the exhaust manifold that's when it cause fires. After they fix that issue it wasn't a problem anymore
Rumor has it DeLorean actually designed the Fiero. The designs were left behind when he left GM. Too many design similarities between the DMC-12 and the Fiero for it to be a coincidence.
@@knytrydr73 He left GM a full 10 years before the Fiero, plus at that stage in his life he wasn't designing stuff like he was in the 50-60s. He had a small team make the first Delorean prototype that was nothing like the production model.
I own a 1982 Delorean and like all Delorean's is powered by a 2.8 litre injected V6, why did you mention rotory engine? The same engine is used by Lotus, Volvo and other car makers of the time and is simple to maintain and service!
I dont get it. The prototype shown in this film contained a Citroen Wankel engine, and they offered the PRV which wasnt put in until they came out with the pilot cars
Rotory engines have one setback. Nobody knows how to fix them when they break, as all engines do. Most garages just arent familiar with the pistonless design.
IIRC originally the engines was going to be a V8 but they couldn't obtain it so had to settle for a V6. So the car still was a sports car (albeit in the lower margin) and with a reduced performance engine. Also 0-60 in 8 seconds was bloody quick for most cars back then.
Did the 8 sec thing sound like a dub over. Bet they wanted to be faster. The US version took 10 sec to get to 60. Roads? To get up to 60 we will need a lot of road...and time.
Interesting video, but no mention of company capitalization, product warranty, expected/guaranteed quality of the product, market studies or target customer. This really was a shell game. An 80's typical Ford, GM, Chrysler family car could do 100 plus mph, while the Delorean speedometer when only to 85.
it only showed 85mph as it was federal law at the time, the Corvette of the save time still only showed 85 as did anything else produced for then. Speedo displays don't reflect the top speed. There was a 140mph speedo for Europe etc.
+billystutz55 The good thing is that De Lorean specialists can now re-engineer these cars, with more power (200 hp), better electricals and re-fitted panels ...basically making the what it SHOULD have been like..
Ramblin -you know shit. I was an adult in the 80's, Even a plain jane Ford (same for Chevy, & Chrysler) speedometer top end was 120 mph, and could cruise at 100 mph without effort. I've done that many times on the turnpikes. Back in the day the only models that show 85 were imports, mostly from Japan.
+nofrackingzone The Corvettes had em, trucks had em. Not every car had them though. It was a move by the Jimmy Carter administration to make 55 mph look fast on the instrument cluster. If I remember correctly it was only widely implemented from 79 to around 83 or 84. A few late production DeLoreans (1983) had 140 mph speedos. I assure you I know what I'm talking about.
and i thought it was futuristic to exchange to a wankel engine,i didn't know this info earlier.....yes with a renesis from an rx-8 would be better.....
shawoo lmao! Where do you get your unknowledgeable information from? Have you had any experience with this car at all or are you just hearing from somebody else running her mouth talking shit about something they don't know? These cars are actually built way better than they were given credit for considering it was a brand new car built with different types of techniques compared to other car companies and I've had my car for 14 years and it's a bulletproof car that I have no problem driving everyday which I basically do and I've driven across several states with my car and I don't carry any spare parts or tools with me whatsoever. Maybe you should do a little bit of research before you go running your mouth about something you don't know because he's cars are not crappy at all and they're only crappy for people that try to do half-ass jerry-rigged repair jobs on them and they end up Catching Fire and burning to the ground or running like shit
And as great as these cars look... They werent fast, they werent dependable, and they werent actually as good on fuel as they were made out to be. They only got about 21 mpg highway. Not bad but not great either. I had a diesel truck that got that... Just saying... and john delorean made one mistake... He wanted to get rich, not produce a quality car. All in all (even though I still want one lol) delorean was a fail. Sorry.
What a great, nostalgic video, people here hate the music..i LOVE it, so early 80's...the same sort of music in early 80's zombie horror movies!
I guess they used various library music.
I NEED THIS MUSIC
Knight Industries - Boards of Canada’s third album ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest’ springs to mind.👍🏻🙂
Yes, this is a thriller soundtrack, and a thriller crash test (40 Mph) goes to a coffin.
i would rather listen to this than justin bieber

3:36 You will never hear this statement again.
Daniel Hughes lol that statement would be a controversy magnet today lol

it was most likely played on an Oberheim OBX-A.
When the future really was the future...
6:25 Time Travel forshadowing
This video creeps me out big time.
Yeah.... me too. A lot of futuristic stuff from the 1980's creeps me out for some reason.
They messed up the tracking. It's too slow.
This is a gem of a video! Great history!👌😎👍
3:28 - that was unexpected lol
Jeez, I wish I was I could go back to the past with the same knowledge I have now.
Robot narrator does not like picking out wallpaper. LOL
Thank for sharing! I sat inside a DeLorean a couple of weeks ago - but have yet to test drive one before buying it :).
A friend of mine has one that he let me drive. It's definitely fun to drive.
This whole film is oddly intimidating.
Buy a DeLorean or else!
Because you aren’t fit to own one.
Now I truly understand that S.A.I.N.T. Number 5 was clearly inspired by the DeLorean. I have a new appreciation for Short Circuit, which was one of my favorite films as a child.
I had a 1985 Mazda RX-7 in 1997, it was a fun car.

This is where Boards of Canada got their sound.
NESherv I want this background music. BOC is awesome.
I have wanted this car since I was 5 years old. I am almost 24
I've wanted this car since I was 16 years old. I'm almost 56, ... ;)
Me too, now I'm 35 and I'm pretty sure it will never happen.
I have wanted this car since I was 5. And now I'm 38.
Buy it then lol
So did you get the car?
I'm assuming the tape is just giving out, thus the quality of sound, but besides that it's cool.
This car could take America out of financial ruin.
It's time to start manufacturing this once again on a large scale - with todays technology - and of course - a FLUX Capacitor.
@Death trooper So You Are Telling This CarIs Crap???
Play at 1.25 speed
Quite an improvement and a touch less creepy
I love some of those meaningless 80's computer graphics that try to convey techno sophistication but mean nothing!
Im video bei die 9:59 minute ist das innenraum etwas andere als die bekanten Delorean innenraum ,auch das lenker ,what exactly happened? the first models were like that and changed after 1980?
god...having to listen to this really would make u enthusiastic about selling
I MUST HAVE A COPY OF THIS!
Hey do you have part II of this or do you know where I can find a copy I can't seem to find it online anymore.
Absolutely legendary.

the DMC-12 may be terrible but its iconic

@@silverwings11035 u still alive?
Dealership program started in 1977...
See dmcnews.com/faq/d_app1.htm to see the dealer application forms.
The video was most likely produced by then.
I wonder what DeLorean thought of the Fiero. It was a muiti-layered body car with an under body. It also used parts from other cars too.
The Fiero was a dangerous car; good luck finding them today.

@@mcqueenfanman - The interiors of the Fiero and DMC- 12 are virtually identical and I don't believe in coincidences.

Ooh lucky! I want to own one someday
They originally wanted the rotary engine in the DMC. I forget why that didn't happen.
The narrator sounds like a text to speech yet sounds so human. Now that's early 80s
When this baby hits 88mph your gonna see some serious shit!
☝🏻😒
130HP and lackluster excelleration is not a sports car. However, the LX version has a whopping *_*300HP_** . ☝🏻😳
The music; Nooo! I’ll never stop the corporation!!!
It`s available to to purchase on april 1st 2012,
in the spec delorean states the car can reach speeds of around 88 mph.
I dont get it. The prototype shown in this film contained a Citroen Wankel engine, and they offered the PRV which wasnt put in until they came out with the pilot cars
KITT's Brother?
Lol
Nathan brought me here!
So, they wanted it to be around 2200lb and have 0-60 in less than 8 seconds. What we got was 500lbs heavier and more than 2.5 seconds slower to 60.
Nathan Barnett has sent me here!
That raw early eighties synth just fantastic
Rotory engines have one setback. Nobody knows how to fix them when they break, as all engines do. Most garages just arent familiar with the pistonless design.
The Delorean used a V6.
they should have kept the steering wheel of this prototype on the final version... :)
modern cars look like toys / I like all the new stuff, but I prefer to drive with honor!
Can anybody explain to me how a 130 bhp car is considered to be a performance car?
My current four door sedan has 140 bhp!

mengle2004 it was 10 seconds for the automatic and 8 1/2 seconds for a 5-speed
I'm working on re creating the music for this!

+billystutz55 That's gag in the "back to the future" movies, Doc Brown had to get the Delorean time machine up to 88 mph, when top speed was 85 mph.
