Most Netflix shows are cancelled after 2 seasons. Even the showrunner of The Witcher is saying that season 2 needs to do really well to get a season 3. Usually viewership drops over time and I don't know why, but apparently successive seasons usually cost more to make.

@@slevinchannel7589 I mean the first season I agree was not that impressive, but I just finished the second one and just wow. It feels like the budget had tripled, new sets every episode, new characters, the list goes on. The ending was very satisfying aswell.

Out of all the shows Netflix canceled, I'm very surprised this one survived. 2nd season looks like it'll be a remarkable improvement so I'm all in regardless.

Unlike others, I really enjoyed the first season, and was eager for the second. I watched it all today and it did not disappoint. The story line is stronger, even if there are occasional potholes in the dialogue and some of the milling around in the dark corridors of a space ship is pretty slack. Still, the emotional stakes are raised in this series, and there's a fine payoff at the end.
S2 was amazing!

I'll wait for 3 or 4 seasons. Until then, I'm guessing Netflix will just cancel it. I've stopped watching Netflix originals, because even when they are successful, they don't last... Altered Carbon, I'm looking at you.

Although they did take the 'Prometheus Option' and walk around breathing and exposing themselves to an ENTIRELY UNKNOWN ecosystem and then......oh no we encountered a new organism!
The execution isn't always great but if you look past its (mostly low budget) flaws, Another Life is actually an enjoyable sci fi series with a good pace and a good story. The acting sometimes feels a bit cheap and the moviesets are a bit meh but the special effects and overall atmosphere are pretty good. I love how this show is packed full of sci fi elements where other shows just drag on before something cool happens.
*** spoiler alert *** In only 2 seasons, Another Life has shown alien encounters, alien spaceships, FTL travel, wormholes, shuttlecraft, planetary explorations, an exploding planet, AI conflicts, alien artifacts, etc. etc. etc. It may be a bit cheap here and there but I really like it :-)
Replace the word "Akaya" with "Chaos" and you get that upcoming Final Fantasy game.

I never watched any of these 'gold standard' shows like Star Trek which people compare it to to call this show bad so that I would be disappointed after watching it.
And surprisingly, Season 1 is very good !! the plot is consistent, the character arcs are well defined, i like how no one is a direct villain (except for the us government - who didn't see that coming) though it did appear to be a bit corny & cheesy at times.
And hey, as long as they are not fckin up ethnical consistency, the crew can be as diverse, polygamous & sexually adventurous as they want.
Apparently, Netflix does a Cost vs Viewer comparison and cancel the less profitable shows. Just like they cancelled shows like Altered Carbon and I'm not Okay with this despite having good reviews.
But honestly, I'm very surprised that Another Life survived! Don't get me wrong, I do like this show. But it received way too much negative reviews...

First season annoyed me. It was like the writers got together, someone said "Think up up every single possible thing that could happen in space, no matter how stupid" and when asked "So which ones do we include" someone went "ALL OF THEM!" Actually now I think about even more annoyed me, like they've only recently made ships that can get to other planets in our solar system and suddenly they're off to a signal way into space, landing on other planets etc. Anyway, probably still watch the new season

There no evidence that travel to other planets in the solar system is recent in this series.

Awesome! So looking forward to S2. A lot of Netflix shows don't make it past S2 as I've heard the business plan is, by the time subscribers have waited for season 2 of something, they've already found another thing to watch as well, so there's no point in investing in S3. Also, viewership tends to drop off after S2 which can make it unprofitable. But this is Space Fiction! Netflix doesn't have enough space fiction originals to keep space fiction fans subscribing for new stuff. If this is good, and attracts more subscribers, S3 could be on the cards, especially with competitors launching their own SF in competition. Looking forward to more awesome acting scenes with Katee Sackhoff, Samuel Anderson, and others, and the fantastic special effects. Would be nice if the writing improved, though. Netflix, more space fiction please!
Just watched S2 ep 1. Wow. The writing has improved! Can't say more but loved how they dealt with all those less exciting plot points with a simple plasma blast!

Yeah I think the budget was rly low and with the amount of people seeing it I think their budget allowed for a better production.
Yeah, the music direction maybe left a little to be desired but I dug all the super low freq sweeps.

How did this get a second season‽ I am baffled as it appeared it cratered in spite of the actors trying to save the bad script writing of the franchise (concept is awesome but it was poorly executed though).
Took them this long to make a second season but they canceled the society 🤦🏾♂️ I hate Netflix.

If you're a huge sci-fi fan you won't like it since there is just too many good sci-fi movies and shows that have been made over the Yea. If you're not you might tolerate or like it.
I loved the first season but Honestly the show deserves at least another chance, I know not everyone agrees. But you can’t base a whole franchise on 1 season. The outpost over on cw started really bad and now it’s watched by millions of people because it got good in the 2nd sesson. I for one can’t wait for season 2.
Seems a lot better than the ridiculous season 1
This show is good ngl. I binge watched both season in 2 days lol. Season 1 after episode 5-6 the story started to get interesting and season 2 is so good. Hopefully they make season 3 when human make contact with other alien races and learn more about Achaia and their goal for the galaxy or even universe and who created them.
Thank you Netflix for not canceling this show
I hope you stay in space and sci-fi with us a little longer Katee, and let's see a season 3 too.
...and yes, although I also liked that duster, Longmire, "Another Life" has that great potential here spread out.
