I painted a small guest bathroom and got great results. It doesn't get a lot of traffic, so it was a great, inexpensive way to update the look of the floor.
Super helpful. I have PINK floor tile in my bathroom that I HATE! It's small, doesn't have much traffic, and I have bathroom rugs covering most of the area I step on. So this is going to be my solution! THANK YOU!!
Thank you for an honest review of what to expect from painted tile floors. I think that as I have very little choice I am going to have to paint my tile floor since the cost of materials and labor has just risen exponentially and I don't want to pay to have a small bathroom floor stripped of its white tile, new plywood, and then new tile. Thanks to Doina below for the addition of hardener to the top coat. Since I exclusively use Benjamin Moore I know I can count on them to provide me with both the paint and the hardener. Also using quart cans is a great idea so you don't add hardener to a gallon and being unable to save it for touch-ups or use in another area. Most people don't bother with a one year follow up so we are left wondering as to how long it will last. In my case I am pretty much the only one who uses that small bathroom because of its location. Thank you again.
Some kind of 2 part epoxy coating system similar to what is sometimes used over timber flooring or concrete garage floors would probably provide more surface durability and protect the painted colour underneath.
I would suggest putting down a large rug covering the high traffic areas, you can but one from Lowes, Target,or even a used one from a thrift store, Easier to replace the rough every few years than repaint the floor again !
I think this is a good test on the painted floor tile. You guys really tested it. I’m thinking it would be good for my indoor room as it has less traffic and would be kinder
I am considering painting a bedroom floor. I came here first to see a testimonial. One thing I already did was scrape out all of the old grout. This is important. I will prime and paint with hardener and add a clear coat. and then regrout the entire area with premium TEC power grout. There are the proper steps to do an applicationike this for it to last and look better than it did previous, imo.
I'm about to do my kitchen tile floor, which is a beige-ish with pink undertones and doesn't match anything. Going with the Rust-Oleum Home Floor kit. Reviews were excellent. Originally got the idea from the bathroom here at work. They painted the floors a couple of years ago, and it still looks great considering the daily traffic and fact the floor gets mopped daily. Re-tiling my kitchen would practically involve a gut job, and the cost alone of someone laying the tile-even without the other work-is prohibitive. To me it's totally worth trying considering how little it costs to do this.
That's exciting to hear. That's cool to hear how it has held up that gets a lot more foot traffic than my back patio. You are right about reconsidering a tile replacement, I thought the same way as you and I'm glad I did that first as well!
that's considered lasting? I guess if it's a workshop... I appreciate you doing this and being honest. I won't be doing it because I would definitely notice those problems in the area that I'm trying to do.
It's paint so it will always eventually chip. Painted tile floors are ideal if you are planning on replacing the floors eventually - a great short term solution!
I purchased the flooring tool that makes the tiles almost "disappear" into a wood floor plank look. It has all the nail pops marks, curvey continuous lines. To get the effect you follow the above recommendations and use the tool to add dark or light wood look striping. Definitely let the floor seal dry with several coats. allow the dry time or don't proceed as otherwise it will not be worth it. Just another way to change the look inexpensively.
Hi, just wondering if you have any further details on the flooring tool you mentioned that you purchased to transform your floor, perhaps a link to where I can find more info? Thanks.
Painting a color that isn't as high contrast to the original helps not notice the breakthrough chips! Painting isn't anyone's 1st choice, but it's a way faster, much cheaper & easy diy with nice results! ❤❤
Thanks, good information and charming personnality. I hope I can find similar product in Europe. For a non English speaker it was challenging to follow your diction. Fortunately automatic subtitling worked well.
Painted floors are a great short term solution for ugly or outdated flooring, but it's not the best long term solution. For a low traffic room, it can be a longer term solution for updating your flooring. But, keep in mind it will still be subject to chipping because it’s still paint! This solution is ideal if you're planning on replacing the floors eventually but want to update them in the meantime. I hope this helps!
I'm not sure if that would hold up as well, I know my kitchen counters get a lot of heavy use so I worry that the paint would peel up and chip more easily. If you're planning on replacing the tile countertop completely one day, then maybe this would be a good temporary solution. But I think long term, kitchen counters will get too much daily use and wear for the paint to hold up and look good for a long period of time.
I painted my ugly muddy brown floor tiles with black paint it looks horrible and chipping let it dry a full 2 weeks, there’s no reason as to why this should be happened I prepped exactly as the instructions recommended. I’m going to have to go back in and repaint the floors and do a triple coat to try and fix the problem. Going to add a large rug over it to avoid further issues.
Angela: Did you have any grout to replace? I have the same pinky tile as you and I am sure it is from the early 90's. Mine even goes up the wall! I think this is the way to go. Can you do 2 coats of the top coat?
The same would apply for bathrooms - it's a great solution for low traffic areas! If it's your master/main bathroom you would experience some chipping after awhile, but if it's a bathroom that does not get used very often this would be a great solution! I would not recommend it for a shower floor though or anywhere that comes into direct contact with water as that will erode the paint much faster.
38 years as a professional union painter, the quick answer is no painted floors to do hold up. Especially if you use the products sold in big box stores. Not mention painting tile is a bad idea to begin with. The surface needs to be properly etched if you want proper adhesion. There are products available to professionals that would work, however the total cost per square foot isn't much lower than the lifetime warrantied vinyl plank flooring you find in the big box stores. I'm a painter and would never paint any floors in my home or a customers home.
You paint walls they look old too after a few years it’s just how everything ages , new home is new only for a few years , the best thing about paint is that it’s only one coat away from new again , few years time just paint again …. Easy , All floors wear fast , I just replaced carpet 5 years old …. So for those wanting perfection with floors that never existed it’s a floor they wear
it's easier if it's shinny tiles. I hate my tiles I wish I can just replace it. It's rough and gets more dirt and stains won't get off. I have dogs and cats, they bring me mud all over.
Rust-Oleum should be ashamed of theirself, sponsoring these hungry people selling a one week remedy! Can you folks actually believe this wouldn't be a costly mistake? No such thing! OMG!!! Game Over!!!!!

Nice!! Yes I think rooms with little traffic are the ideal spot for painted floors!

Thanks. This reinforces my thoughts that it’s worse than simply living with the existing style.

but isn't resin prone to stain?

I would like to paint my kitchen floor. Your video was very well made and informative. Thanks for Sharing

If you don't mind a distressed/rustic look, even the worn painted floor isn't that bad.
Yes, good point! :)
I'll bet sanding it 1st, using 2-3 coats, sanding between coats and 2 coats of top coat plus a 7 day drying time would give you years of life
Thank you for this update to painting floor tiles. I believe I will do this option for my new home
That's awesome to hear, thank you!

I'd like to see that too
This was really helpful, thank you!
Thanks for this video, I’m considering painting a guest bathroom.
Wonder if commercial garage floor paint would work better. Although might be the same stuff just re-branded.
Perhaps, I've never tried that before! Good point it definitely could be the same thing 😂

That's a great point about choosing a color. Thanks so much!
Great information. Thank you.
Actually for a workshop floor I think it’s held up great
Thank you! We were pretty tough on it so I thought so too!
Excellent video, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I LOVE the original tile. Is it real Mexican clay tile?
And I’ve renovated a lot of ugly tile in the past.
Thanks, good information and charming personnality. I hope I can find similar product in Europe. For a non English speaker it was challenging to follow your diction. Fortunately automatic subtitling worked well.
Thank you very much, I am glad that you were able to still watch with the subtitles!!
Thank you For your honest feedback
No problem!
The issue i see is the grout is the same color. The grout needs to be darker color paint to make it look real.
Thank you.
Very helpful 😊❤
I want to paint my washroom floor, but problem is that after sometime the paint is going to remove with cleaning. Please someone help me on this

How would thos hold up on tile kitchen counter top? What if I sanded it with sand paper first? Would it hold up well?
I'm not sure if that would hold up as well, I know my kitchen counters get a lot of heavy use so I worry that the paint would peel up and chip more easily. If you're planning on replacing the tile countertop completely one day, then maybe this would be a good temporary solution. Hi do you think this would hold up to kitchen chairs being moved in and out over this paint?
I think that if you used those felt pads on the bottom of the legs that would be best for protecting the tiles against kitchen chairs.
@@AngelaMarieMade New product called “Leg Socks” on Amazon are better than felt pads.

No I did not. Yes you can do two coats!
Are you happy with the color you chose? Looking for a warm grey for my kitchen floor and this looks like it could be?
Yes, I love this color for my floor definitely a warm gray!
the bottom of my shower is tile and is dark and ugly. Could i paint it?
The manufacturer does NOT recommend using in showers/bathtubs, unfortunately.
YOU MIGHT TO CHECK WITH A PROFESSIONAL. I HAD BATHROOM TILE REPAINTED & GLAZED & ITS MUCH MORE DURABLE. YOU DO NEED TO LEAVE THE HOUSE FOR THE DAY
My Cabinets just got replaced and now my Kitchen tiles look old fashioned out dated. How long does color last on Ceramic though?
How would it be in bathrooms and shower floor
The same would apply for bathrooms - it's a great solution for low traffic areas! THERE ARE PROFESSIONALS THAT DO BATHROOMS. YOU NEED TO LEAVE THE HOUSE FOR THE DAY. IT IS EPOXY & DURABLE

What about some type of epoxy paint.? Somebody told me the paint will not adhere to smooth tile like what you said. It’s for a rental apartment.
You’re wrong. Definitely more experience than you, I guarantee you can paint tile and it will hold for a long time
@@Sizzerb81can we paint floor tiles ?

What variation of white is the wall behind you?
It is simply white by benjamin moore in eggshell
Nice, but you should have used epoxy based coating instead of this tile paint. Especially if you knew about high traffic in this area.
Any sugessted product lines? Thank you
Of course I can’t find Rustoleum anywhere now:(
So put on more topcoats? Got it.😂

Could you put a coat of polyurethane over the paint? Thank you and God bless you and your family 🙏💞✝️
I am not sure about applying poly - but you can always do multiple layers of the top coat!
How would this hold up in a bathroom?
It should hold up about the same! However it would not hold up well inside a shower or anywhere that would experience a lot of water erosion.
WHY ARE YOU ASKING SOMEONE WHO DIDNT USE IT IN A BATHROOM?
What color would you pick if you had to do again?
I really liked the color I picked, I would probably stick with it!
would it be ok inside a shower
No, I think the consistent water pressure would cause the paint to wear faster.
from SHOES? not from moving furniture across it etc... it scrapes off that easily in 1 year???
If you like to strip paint later do it lol
"outdated " 😂
nothing is outdated unless you are a slave to fashion and trends .
Character marks😂😂
I appreciate your review but… you painted a very high use are in white
