Hi, I did not have to replace the faulty capacitors because I only needed to copy the important data from it. I threw it away after recovering the data.
I didn't see you replace those capacitors. Did you? If not, why? How do you know the difference between a capacitor and a resistor on those tiny components?
Hi, yes, I did not have to replace the faulty caps as long as I could quickly copy the important data. I threw the SSD away after recovering. You would know the difference between a SMD cap and SMD resistor.
@@ReynaxisSolutions Oh, OK. But would you ever want to use a fixed SSD that had bad caps? Or is that a bad idea? I still don't know how to distinguish between those tiny caps and resisters. How do you know?
Hi, I can distinguish it maybe due to experience of inspecting logic boards. But usually, SMD resistors are colored black or dark brown and SMD capacitors are either grey, beige or brown.
Great video, but I want to know: How do you distinguish between a surface mount capacitor and another component like a diode or resistor on the SSD board? Before throwing out my SSD I might try this to recover the data on it.
Hi, thank you. SMD capacitors are easily distinguishable because their body in between two connectors is white or yellowish and looks plasticky. It usually doesn't have a number written on the body. Resistors are mostly black in color and has a number written on the body. Most of the diode can be identified by its connectors which are smaller than its body. Sometimes, coils can look like a capacitor and the most prominent difference between a capacitor and a coil is that the coil tend to have rough connectors.
If the connection where the capacitor's two ends were originally attached to is severed, then it won't work. But if there are other capacitors in the array that does the same job then there is no need to replace it.
Hi, I did not replace the caps. This was only good until we copy the data from it. However, up to now since the time I repaired it, it is still working.
well played interesting video, I have the same problem almost the same SanDisk SSD I tested the capacitors and they are all good however I noticed UART or I2C ports on the pcb is there a thing that the can we do with that?
Thank you for the helpful video! I have a question though, when the shortened component is removed, does that mean that some of the data from the SSD is gone.. I have the same issue, my computer doesn’t see the SSD and I really don’t want to lose all my data.. is t possible to save most of it?
Hi, your data is held in the NAND chip so removing faulty capacitors isn't going to affect your data. But if some chips are faulty or the NAND itself, then your data may be lost.
Usually, I think people can charge you 100USD in US or in the Philippines it would be a bit lower or the same. But right now, I don't accept SSD repair coming from overseas.
I want to replace a capacitor that is shorted on my SSD drive but I don't know which replacement I have to buy I see so many different kinds (NF,UF, PF + numbers). The only visual reference that I have (on my case) is a capacitor L4 but I can't find it as so.
I think any SMD filter capacitor would do. Usually, if it's a filter capacitor, it's ok to not to replace it as long as the data is recovered from the ssd. Then once data is recovered, I would not use the ssd again.
@@ReynaxisSolutions I only want the data back. At the moment I can load the disk with a external disk reader, but it is two slow to load the files and at a moment it just stops responding. In any case once I manage to find the L4 I'll use your instruction to replace it. Thank you.
You can try and remove the shorted caps and see if that solves your problem. But if not, you'll have to solder the caps back to the board. But be careful though as the heat from the soldering gun or from the hot air could damage the other component.
@@ReynaxisSolutions I have a team group drive that had some sort of short. I can see the burned component, but I have no idea how to identify what it was.
Hi, if it is a faulty resistor or faulty diode, you must replace. In my case, there's so many caps in the logic board that removing some doesn't have to be replaced. If you have a replacement capacitor, then replacing it is a must.

Looks like those capacitors are filter caps which means the circuits in the logic board will still work without it. At least temporarily while I am copying the precious data from the faulty ssd. The FLUX is for spreading out the heat proportionally so it's easier to melt the lead.

No, I did not have to replace the caps.
What are you doing in the video? You just open the ssd, and test electric on board?
Ohh i forget you change the capasitor
Hi, yes.
I love the video! You made it look very easy. Is it possible that you can make a list of equipment you have or comparable from Amazon?
Fixed? Did you replace the caps?
Hi, no.
just to clarify, it is a remove and replace the shorted parts rigth?
Hi, removed.
Cab you just solder another fuse onto of the the blown contacts one? As a temporary fix to take data off?
Yes we can if we have a replacement cap.
Did you replace the two shorted capacitors or just remove them?
Hi, I just removed them.
So what are the capacitors good for if they can be removed and the drive is working without replacing them?
Hi, from what I know, filter caps can be removed and the device will still work if there are more than one filter caps on the board.
Hi. Did you just removed capacitors or replaced? I didn't spotted putting those back? What values are those?
No i did not put the capacitor back.
This method works for other SSD brands? Such as Kingston or Gigabyte
Hi, yes.
I have a question that might be stupid: you just remove the shorted capacitors? Like, you don't substitute them, just remove it?
Hi Manuela, yes I just removed the shorted capacitors. If you have a replacement, better to replace them.
@@ReynaxisSolutions wow, I didn't know that was possible. Does this work for any capacitor in the board?
Can you list the tools you used? Thanks
Hi, For this job, I used cellphone repair tools. Mustool LED Microscope, Seek Thermal Compact Pro, Yihua 952D+ Hot Air/Soldering SMD Rework Station, Kaisi 1505TD DC Power Supply, Hard Disk Enclusure, PC and a Multi-tester.
I some what have the same problem. I have 3 larger size square caps not the small rectangler ones. The three show continuity which im guessing is bad. Do you know what i could replace them with?
You could try and remove them one by one and see if the ssd will work. If all those 3 caps removed and ssd still didn't work, return them and find a similar cap.
Hi, did you only remove the "shorted" capacitors or did you replace them? i have the exact same problem and would like to use your guidance to fix it. Thanks.
Hi, I did not have to replace the faulty capacitors because I only needed to copy the important data from it. I threw it away after recovering the data.
@@ReynaxisSolutions Thanks, I will give it a try, because I was going to throw the ssd away anyway. Thanks for the help, I will try your solution.
You're welcome. Try to remove one faulty caps at a time. Remove up to 3 if necessary.
Did you replace the caps you removed?
In this case, not necessarily because we only need to copy the important data.
whats the name of tool you used to open the ssd? can't find one any where
Suction cup clamp mobile phone opener.
I didnt see you replacing the removed capasitors.
Hi, you are right. I did not replace the faulty caps because I only need to recover the data in the SSD.
Soooo.... you replaced the shorted capacitor or just left it removed shorted pieces? I also have not working crucial P2 SSD.
Ok nevermind i saw a similar comment with the answer
So only copy and no more write?
I mean that's an M.2 NVME SSD
Hi, i just removed it.
@@ReynaxisSolutions
Oh, OK.
Sometimes, coils can look like a capacitor and the most prominent difference between a capacitor and a coil is that the coil tend to have rough connectors.
the capacitor was removed, then replace with new one?
Hi, in this case , no, I did not have to replace it.
@@ReynaxisSolutions will it work even not being replace right?
If the connection where the capacitor's two ends were originally attached to is severed, then it won't work. But if there are other capacitors in the array that does the same job then there is no need to replace it.
How much do you charge to do this? I need to send you same thing
Hi, unfortunately, I don't accept repairs going to Papua New Guinea from other country because of the risk of losing the package.
why do the ceramic capacitors fail? this is very rarely happening
Maybe high temp or fluctuations in the power supply.
Hi may i ask do you replace the capacitor or just remove it?
So if your remove the capacitor is that ok to use in the long run?
Hi, I did not replace the caps. This was only good until we copy the data from it. However, up to now since the time I repaired it, it is still working.
well played interesting video, I have the same problem almost the same SanDisk SSD I tested the capacitors and they are all good however I noticed UART or I2C ports on the pcb is there a thing that the can we do with that?
Hi, I'm sorry, I'm not sure how yet.
Would this same method work on an m.2 NVMe SSD?
Hi, I have yet to try.
Did you just removed them? Or you replaced then?
Hi, i removed only.
Will it work normally again?
Hi, in my case, it works normally but I won't use it anymore. I only need to get the data from it. I would not trust that SSD after the data recovery.
But if you replace the capacitor, do you gain more trust in it?
Maybe. But the SSD has been used for 5 years so I would still recommend to have it replaced.
Deleted overwrite data parmanently delete hone me kitna time leta hai
How much would such a repair cost?
Usually, I think people can charge you 100USD in US or in the Philippines it would be a bit lower or the same. But right now, I don't accept SSD repair coming from overseas.
Hello brother,,thank u for sharing
Thanks brother
I'm new to this, so I don't know if the setting I used on mt multimeter are correct, I got a reading of 002 on the L4 cap and a short, also I get a red light when the disc is connected , I don't know if that means anything.
@@ReynaxisSolutions Ok. thank you very much. I will try.
My disk isnt even showing in disk manager, any hope to recover that? any tips
Try changing the usb cable first. It eould be hard to know what the problem is without checking the logic board.
Wow astig namn po... Idol
Thanks lodi
Anyone know what make and model of led microscope is?
Hi, it's brand name is Mustool. ruclips.net/video/A2-qqgemajY/видео.html
How do you figure out what to use as a replacement component?
I usually look for the same logic board and measure the good component.
@@ReynaxisSolutions I have a team group drive that had some sort of short. I can see the burned component, but I have no idea how to identify what it was.
Hi, you can google for it's logic board. Type the model of the drive and its logic board.
So you just removed the capacitors that were shortened and thats it?
So no replacement just remove everything thats shortened?
Hi, if it is a faulty resistor or faulty diode, you must replace. In my case, there's so many caps in the logic board that removing some doesn't have to be replaced. If you have a replacement capacitor, then replacing it is a must.
Thanks for sharing this vedio very useful my friend
Thank you friend.
so my drive does not show up in hte drive management any help
Must be faulty
@@ReynaxisSolutions thanks
What if all capacitors beeping is that mean all damaged
Then something in the logic bord is shorting the caps or maybe one of those caps.
May I know it remove the capacitor or replace the capacitor?
You can replace the capacitor too. But if nothing, it will work as well without caps.
Nice video Sir. The tools/equipment you used, the Multimeter and the microscope are provided by the company? Or those are your personal stuff?
One more thing, did you replace one component in the board? And solder it again. Or you just remove the one that is shortened?
Thanks sir. These tools are my personal and I bought these with my own money.
@@ReynaxisSolutions sir are you an IT Manager in pNG?
@@jaymarkalvarez9851 Hi Sir. Yes I am.
@@ReynaxisSolutions Sir I'm also a Filipino. I have a job offer as an IT Manager. Can we connect on messenger? I would like to ask something about the culture of PNG.
Hi, I have a SSD that works fine but it drops it's drive letter every time I unplug it and so each time I plug it in I have to go to disk management and reassign a drive letter but this means it can't boot from it without a drive letter, do you have any ideas as to the problem.Thanks.
Hi, I haven't come across that problem before. You can try and check for disk error like chkdsk /f x: or update your pc's windows because it might be related to USB controller drivers. I'm not sure. Hope you find a solution. Good luck!
@@ReynaxisSolutions Yes it is a strange problem but the drive works perfect once I assign it a drive letter. I have 5 SSD's on my PC and all the others work fine.
Much thanks, I find your videos informative in a way even a newbie can understand all you saying.
Also I got a problem on a board that I'd like to show you and get your opinion on it. How can I contact you?
Thanks,
Hi, you can send me an email. computerglen586@gmail.com
Nice ...
So ... a "shorted" capacitor will stay "hot" ??? (thermal camera)
Do you ave the link to that model of Microscope ?
Hi, yes, correct. Shorted caps will appear hot in thermal cameras.
Here's the link for Seek Thermal CompactPro. www.amazon.com/Seek-LQ-AAA-Compactpro-iOS/dp/B07GX8XTG5/ref=sr_1_1?crid=SNVUK3CKOYLA&keywords=seek%2Bthermal%2Bcompact%2Bpro&qid=1650581821&sprefix=seek%2Bthermal%2Caps%2C514&sr=8-1&th=1
Hi there, if we decide to replace the capacitor, what things we need to concern to? can we replace the capacitors only based on the same size? Ur answer will be much helpfully for me, thank you
Yes, if you don't know the value of the original capacitor, then the best way is to replace it with the most similar cap in size.
Well executed!
Thank you.
So you don't replace the capacitors you took out?
Hi, yes, in this case, it was not required to replace the faulty capacitors.
@@ReynaxisSolutions why the capacitors were there in the first place? What is the FLUX (?) you apply before taking it out. Is it an acid?
Looks like those capacitors are filter caps which means the circuits in the logic board will still work without it. At least temporarily while I am copying the precious data from the faulty ssd. The FLUX is for spreading out the heat proportionally so it's easier to melt the lead.
@@ReynaxisSolutions Great. Thank you.
I had many HDDs which went bad and I just destroyed them for the magnets. But not I have one SSD that suddenly stopped being registered. I will try your method. Thank you. Please keep us informed about new things.
