soaking fries in water also removes extra starch from the outsides, making them crispier!

I use an air fryer to make them crispy. Much healthier without all that oil. You can go oil free or lower oil.
I was seeing John's ig stories last night showing you editing this video and it's funny how we, viewers, sometimes don't fully realize how much effort you guys put into those videos: not only coming up with recipe ideas *every* week (which is already a lot!) but whole process behind it: filming, editing, making sure that the light/audio is good... making sure that the final result looks (very) beautiful and entertaining. My point is, I really appreciate the content you guys put out here. You guys are professionals and yall don't half ass the work you do. So thank you! (sorry for the shitty english. it is not my first language)

Me too! Watching their videos helps me make more vegan choices. It's a pretty awesome way to do something good for the environment and introduce yourself to a new way of eating. These videos do that without it being scary and intimidating!

Tempeh is so good for you! The easiest way is how I use it. I break off a serving, put it between a couple of slices of bread and make a sandwich. Thick, but it works. I add marinated fire roasted red bell pepper, ketchup and spicy mustard. Sometimes, I add sauerkraut.
I am always super impressed by Johns creativity!

While I think your version sounds delicious, as a born and bred Californian who is now vegan but wasn't always, I've eaten a lot of In n' Out Animal Style fries in my life. A few things to note if your viewers want to make it more "authentic":
1) In n' Out's fries are only seasoned with salt and pepper, and are notorious for being from fresh cut fries with the skins on.
2) You don't need a sugar to caramelize the onions, just a steady heat source and patience. I do it all the time in my kitchen with a crappy electric stove.
3) In n' Out doesn't use a cheese sauce, but rather sliced american cheese (though not the Kraft stuff). It isn't spicy. You can get Follow Your Heart sliced american style cheese which might be better even if it doesn't melt the same.
I didn't even have to watch the whole video to know that John's would win. Lauren's looks really good, though, too, and easier to make. Taco Bell probably uses molds that go right in the deep fryer. That, or frozen chicken holds up better than frozen chic-un.
This is awesome! I tried making vegan animal style fries the other day, but I was WAY too lazy to cook the onions. I'm going to have to try this recipe. You guys motivate me and my husband to experiment and veganize anything and everything! Thanks for all the cooking inspiration!!! ❤❤❤

You guys are awesome. When I met my girlfriend I was an omnivore, but she introduced me to this blog and others like Edgy Veg. I've been steadily weaning myself off meat and I've enjoyed Hot for Food classics like the cheese sauce, cauliflower wings, and cauliflurkey (man that things delish!) Man this one's tough, I went for John's cheese bowl last time but I gotta give this round to Lauren's fries. Homer Simpson voice, "Mmmm caramelized onions..... arghhhhhhhh."

I am most definitely going to try both of these recipes in the near future and hopefully incorporate them into family gatherings. I would really like to attempt making a chicken seitan which I would use to form my shells with. I might even go so far as to invest in taco shell wire frames to get that perfect shell while deep frying. It would be totally amazing to have the tastiest item at a gathering that is totally vegan and lactose free for those I know who are. Taco Bell has a chalupa fryer. All you do is take that formed meat and drop it in the metal chalupa form and put the top on. Then fry away

Joy Leroy I thought the same. I was bummed when she started adding different spices to the fries. Classic In-N-Out fries are simple and delish. I mean they even give you the salt packets on the side to salt your fries if you choose. But the recipe was still very appreciated and I would definitely still devour them lol. The Cali girl in me had to vote for John though. 😊
I don't think I can vote this time guys. John's taco has a wonderful balance of fresh salads + a light creamy dressing with the contrasting deep fried, spicy chik'un. Lauren's Fries, I'm more likely to make though and the sauces look delicious and versatile - also I like that the "fries" are baked. They both make such a good case.

Non vegan Cali girl here, and yes i concur, animal style anything is disgusting. As in you are disgusted with yourself for eating it, but it's delicious and you can't stop. Also huge thumbs up for making your versions out of much better ingredients than fast food ever would! Looked delicious! And the "chick n" chalupa looked spot on!
