    At the $500 price point I’d rather do a Van Staal VR or even a Salt X. This is coming from a penn fan too. It may be too heavy to work on the beach for hours on end. I have slammers and love them but they haven’t been the reel to work for hours on the beach.

    • @codywilliams7308
      @codywilliams7308 2 года назад

      I can see the salt x but not van staal. For the price the irt reels or visser reels are better quality. The van staals are just $500 + Chinese reels. If you can find the US made ones they are good.

      @@codywilliams7308 honestly if you dont dunk your reels, the penn slammer IV has been at a good price point lately I got the 3500 for like $200. I have never heard anything good about the penn torque so Im not sure what penn is doing here competing with these brand with a "fully" sealed real. I have a chinese VR 75 and it is very light and have caught multiple 30"+ fish on it. Id rather spend the $200+ I would save towards a nicer rod.

    Of note, the handle knob on sizes 4500 and larger is metal. Not sure on 3500 size, and it is possible the larger models may have the foam handle in the box so you can use it if you prefer.

    • @Jessewrightfishing
      @Jessewrightfishing  2 года назад +1

      Good question. I'm not sure on the larger sizes. I would think it would be similar to how Penn does the Slammer. Like you said with the foam knob as an extra.

  • @Jessewrightfishing
    @Jessewrightfishing  2 года назад

    FYI I understand this reel has a two piece handle and there has been some controversy that it should be a solid one piece handle. Well I wanted to inform you guys that the Stella SW and Twin Power SW both have two piece handles. So even reels at an even higher price point still don't have a solid handle.

      I would honestly like to dunk a Twinpower and reel it underwater to get a legit answer on how durable it is compared to my Authority. I've had a great time fishing with these reels and they have performed very well. As for weight, it doesn't really bother me. I'm used to it and when you're catching fish you won't notice it. • @tunanorth
      @tunanorth 2 года назад +2

      More specifically, its the next "step up" from the Slammer IV "DX" series [two steps above the regular Slammer IV]. It indeed has more bearings and seals, with the Slammers at IPX6 sealing, and the Authority at IPX8 sealing, for many hardcore surf anglers that is a huge deal. Both the "DX" and Authority have C-n-C machined stainless gears, but the Authority gears are larger and beefier.
