- Nate and Katie work on burning a wood pile that has been on the farm for nearly 1 year. They don't have a lot of luck getting it to go.

That dog sounds just like my Pyranees
Nate you are sounding very 'flat'. Hope you are taking care of yourself. And you are right stop beating yourself up about what you are doing. You have done incredibly to get done what you have already. Your place is coming along nicely. You both should be very proud of what you have achieved.
Don’t know if anyone mentioned, tomato juice, big cans in a tub work great to get rid of skunk smell. Dogs will thank you and you will thank you. It took about 12 large cans poured over my little puppy to make me want to snuggle. Oh one more thing, baby shampoo and conditioner. Use baby that way it won’t hurt their eyes. Good luck.
Fire 🔥 lol Katie 😆
I like to start my brush piles by first starting some charcoal red hot in a charcoal chimney. I place the pile of coals depending on the wind . The faster you get some coals start the faster the pile will burn!
I also like to pile my brush in one direction so it’s much less of a tangled mess, it burns easier
Tomato juice bath for Winston and Levi!
Good morning ☕ 🌞 Nate &Katie
LOL Katie - "Fire". I have a pile to burn as well. Been too wet here in NC. Try using a vinegar rinse on the dogs to help with the smell.
Saw a brilliant idea fly your drone around the predators. Should put them off
A couple suggestions, either cut and chop the brush so the pile is more compact or lay heavier wood you w at to burn on top to compress the pile. Yes, you need air to have fire, but your fire is burning out before it has a chance to catch neighboring brush.
The vultures like that spot because of upper story winds that they glide on. You may see more than usual because they migrate this time of year. Only the black headed vultures stay here in Ohio during our cold months.
When I have wet bonfires it helps to use some of those cheap waxy fire logs from the grocery and then stack the wood on top
We don't have property, suburban living, but we do have a burn pile/fire pit in our Orlando, FL back yard.
Pour all bacon grease/frying oil on that pile. It'll catch.
There's a little pyro in all of us.
I swear Katie’s eyes lit up when she said “fire” 😂😂😂.
What is it about watching a pile of dead debris burn!?! So satisfying watching it burn away. I could have kept watching until it was gone! Needless to say, I enjoyed this video very much. ASMR.
We are getting Eagles. We live close to Dollywood. I think that may be where they are coming from
Our dog has gotten sprayed a lot by skunks. The best shampoo for the de- stinking is hydrogen peroxide and baking soda make a paste and add a few drops of Dawn dish soap. Mix and put on the wet dog scrub it in, rinse and wash with a regular dog shampoo rinse and dry the puppy. He’ll probably smell like wet dog but will be better smelling!
Y'all need a wood chipper to make mulch. So much you can do with mulch. Even if you just make a mulch compost pile.
Yeah, burning is not your thing. You could mulch your paths and cut down on mowing.
So sorry about the skunk thing. I think every one of my dogs has gotten sprayed at one time or another. A wipe down with vinegar helps with the worst of it. And then you just wait. Also, I think your “aerial predators “ are not. They look like turkey vultures which don’t bother chickens. They only eat dead stuff- road kill etc. Hawks often swoop in and sit quietly in a tree and wait for the chickens to let their guard down and then they pounce. Turkey vultures not so much. Sending hugs and blessings.
piro much Katie lol hugsssss
Next time throw some diesel over the pile!!! Works like a charm😉
Generally vultures will not attack living animals if they can help it. The hawks do that! Vultures much prefer carrion!
Fire..chainsaws..big equipment..bring it!! Doin great!! Good job..beautiful land..soooooo proud..ty..xoxo 🥰👍✌🤟🤪🖐
Wave your arms when you see the eagle I do and they move on, as I free range my hens, Was the dog in Tomato juice it help get rid of the smell LOL
❤
We have a big pile to burn too. 🔥 that big a pile can be scary, good job keeping it under control. Enjoy seeing your progression with everything. Good job you two!! Hard work pays off. One day at a time. You’ve already come so far! So encouraging for us (as a small RUclips channel & being nearly at the start of building a similar way of life) to see your journey from then until now. 👍. Thanks for sharing
There is a recipie to wash your dog with a formula containing baking soda and hydrogen peroxide that works if used as soon as possible
Love to watch a fire
It's nice of Nate to let you play Katie
Maybe a guard goose would help with the hawks!
Yes, we want to get a goose or three this year.
Great job guys 😘👍🏻💕
We have a burn pile that we tried to burn on Monday. We used 7 gallons of diesel, hay, cardboard boxes, nothing would make the wood catch. We finally gave up. Will have to try again another day
Thanks for sharing 👍🏿 😊
Thanks for sharing
Everything looks good! Looking better with the debri getting taken care of. I know what you mean with fire. We lost a lot of acreage on our property and trying to contain ten+ acres of dry brush (not by our own fault ) is frighting to say the least. I am glad to see the water and hoses around. Good job Katie and knowing Nate appreciates help with that ........two on duty for any fire is a good thing!!!
Progress is progress...got a few piles done...that one will be gone to before you know it 👍
Yes, it is crazy how wet it is here but we were able to get rid of two piles so that is a positive for sure.
Slow but steady progress!
I live in Oregon to towards the mountains and I'm trying to convince my husband to move that way... the cost of living here is ridiculous.
Sorry the dogs got sprayed again by "Peppie La Pew". Kinsey rolled around and sneezed like he was telling them not to get that stink on him. Hope you will be able to get that burn pile going tomorrow. That's a lot of propane so you think it would really take off. Good luck. Y'all have a Blessed day.
That isn't Floyd. He died in November, I think. I want to say it's Kinsie.
@@carlapierle8623 her name is Kinsley. You were very close ☺️
@@mommabscrochetkitchen2439 Kinsley! Thank you! Kinsie didn't sound right, but I went with it anyway.
@@carlapierle8623 I went in and changed it. Thanks for letting me know.
@@margaretbedwell3211 You're welcome. But I told you the wrong name. It's Kinsley, not Kinsie. I knew Kinsie didn't sound quite right so I probably shouldn't have said it. I just knew it wasn't Floyd, which was a very painful loss for them. 💔
Sure hope the Fire-starter’s forehead is okay. 😮
My son will have a pile that needs to be burned for two years before he will strike a match to it, he just always says its not dry enough.
Straighten him out. 🙂
Predators know that small animals run away from the fire, it will be easier for them to catch their prey.
Seeing that this is not a natural fire it is good to protect your birds/animals in this situation too
Awesome meal
What kind of white gloves are you wearing as you started brush pile on fire? Plastic gardening gloves?
I always say the same thing...I am blown away at how sweet and loving Winston is... especially how he looks at you, Nate. I wish he could live indoors in the comfort he deserves.
You Are Doing Great Nate - Katie . But You Need To Relax More. Al
You should try some starter that’s used to start a charcoal fire. Just squirt it on the brush.
Instead of burning it you could chip it and mulch it to create compost and bio mass. This will contain carbon in the ground and enhance your future crops.
If the skunk smell is unbearable, bath them in tomato juice
🙏🏻❤️😃👍🏻
Get a couple of geese 😂
Can you fly a drone over your chickens when you see the predators to scare them 9:29
I’m wondering why don’t you get a mulched and turn these branches into mulch for your garden?
Yikes! I live in WA State your fire makes me cringe. ( Being from Oregon I am sure you understand!)
I see so much mulch. But you have a lot of trees my farm is beautiful but not quite as many trees
We have so many trees that are down so we are going to burn some, chip some, and leave others where they lay.
@@TheKraemerLife exactly
.I have 14 pecan trees and one of the most beautiful huge old Florida oaks
. And it's surrounded by tall cypress but pretty cleared out in the pastures other than pecan trees. Did you get the skunk smell calmed down lol
Burn pile is brining stubborn!
skunk on dog.....use peroxide or tomato juice to bath.
Throw some diesel on it!
😁😁
Put some diesel on that and it will burn really well
Tomato bath takes stink away
Never ever burn a pile that’s been sitting there for weeks or months. There are critters in the pile that are using it for cover or overwintering that are now beeing burned to death.
Get out the marshmallows!
I also love how cautious you guys were of starting a forest before when you could barley start a fire. Hahaha
Why not start a compost pile? It’s better then burning.
Must be in the blood,my brother burned the field n the greenhouse, oops!!
Hope there was not any little creatures in that pile of wood
They scurry out.
Needs to be more compacted. To much space between limbs or branches.
Th e red puppy says he stinks to I forgot its name
That is Kinsley, she is our 7yr old Golden Retriever.
Such a waste and not environmentally friendly. Why not buy/rent/borrow a wood chipper? The chickens would love it and/or you could compost it/use it as mulch.
who's in back at 6:45 ?
That was weird, I saw it too. I watched a couple of times and it’s someone moving out of view quickly.
That is one of the Golden Girls, the sheep have a very large area and one of them was walking back through the woods.
It's our sheep :)
@@TheKraemerLife 😂🤣 🐑 good to know for when I am able to homestead with sheep… they will be the ghost in the background 😂🤷♀️
