the fact that being a natural woman and not shaving is “brave” is so weird to me.. and that men who don’t shave their bodies say it’s unhygienic.. doesn’t that make you unhygienic then?
@@ashal7482 i think a well kept beard is okay, but the texture of that hair is different to the hair on one’s head. I’ve seen men with big beards get crumbs from their food stuck in there, and not bother to clean it up, and nobody batted an eye. *that* is unhygienic to me, in comparison to the other places where everyone naturally grows hair.
When I first told my dad about not shaving he said it was not Christian like. So I had to explain to my wiser parent that God would not have MADE me with hair if it wasn't right
When I was in 2nd grade, about 7 years old, I was leaning against a wall with my arm up and some armpit hair. One of the smart/cool girls in class pointed it out. At the time I was really insecure n stuff so I put my arm down quickly and said sorry. But she said, and I quote, "No it's ok. My mom tells me that having armpit hair is okay, it just means you're growing!" It has stuck with me since then and it gives me the confidence to be myself, and love myself for growing naturally. This was meant to happen :p lol Edit: Thank you guys for all the sweet comments~! Every time I get a notification for this comment and I see my story and ya'll responses, I start smiling so wide lolol. I hope we call all start and continue loving our bodies :D
Oh man, that’s so sweet! I sadly experienced the complete opposite of this.. my body hair just started growing, especially under my arm pits. One time in summer when I wore short sleeves and was about to tighten my hair tie this one girl told me that I should put my arms down because my body hair was disgusting. These were words were stuck in my head for so long and caused so much anxiety within me. But now I can proudly said that I’m over this :)
I feel like girls who have little body hair don’t really understand that removing hair when you have a lot is super time consuming, costly, and painful. I wonder if women would stop pressuring other women to be hairless if they knew how hard it was for very hair girls lol
I feel like what you’re saying is very true, I’m blonde and I have pretty sparse hair on my body and a lot of my darker haired friends always let me know how “lucky” I am to have this kind of hair, because even if I go out with shorts and didn’t shave for a month most of the time people don’t even notice unless they look directly at my legs. I never felt pressured to shave my arms, for example, and I never realized it until I heard other women tell me about how stressful it is for them. And the cost of it it’s another full issue! There’s definitely a difference in how different bodies experience different hair types but we should REALLY normalize all types of body hair.
Imagine being a plus size girl with a lot of dark hair. I literally take a whole week to wax my legs and my armpits. I have to space them out because of how much hair i have and I hate shaving cos of how it feels after. So i have to wax. Let me tell you... its one of the most painful things I have had to do to myself. I still wax my armpits but I gave up on my legs. Its just too painful. I just wear leggings everyday cos I prefer to not have people stare at me. Still waiting for society to be okay with women's leg hair.
I don't even mind the time consuming, I mind the ingrown hairs that ruin my life and can't find a good solution yet :( so I only shave my legs because that's the only place I don't get ingrown hairs
i felt like i had to remove it when i was 6 years old :( i tried plucking my eyebrows and getting rid of my sideburns once when i was really little and my mom got so mad at me.

Okay, full disclaimer: I'm a man - a gay man, but still a man. It's genuinely embarrassing for me to reveal this, but I didn't know that women had body hair (armpit, leg, etc.) until I was halfway through my twenties when I met my best friend who just doesn't give a shit and lets it grow. And honestly, I love her for that. She changed and enriched my perception of so many things about the feminine experience, and for that I will always be grateful to her. Thank you for talking about this. It honestly shouldn't be an issue _at all_ . Live your best life regardless of what other people want you to be.
Don’t worry. I’m a female and I didn’t know women had body hair until years after I started growing it. I just thought there was something wrong with me
My bf shaves the hairs on his fingers and back of his palm, also on his toes, and I didn't know about it for 2 years! Once he forgot to shave his hands fingers and I pointed out curiously, and he was frightened, and told me he shaves it... I said why? It is totally okay, I'm okay with it. But he said he's not okay with it, bc he don't wanna look like his father... He changed a lot mentally since, he's becoming stronger. I love him to pieces hairy or hairless :)
@@lochettes9791 @Natalia H Thank you guys! I just wanted to point it out that even man can be totally insecure about their bodyhair, but we can be there for them :)
In grade 4 I got bullied for my thick arm hair and "unibrow" because i'm Italian and my teacher decided to join in. A grown ass woman shaming a what 10 yr old kid for something that's natural. Wow guys we did well.
I literally snorted at how ridiculous this is. I’m so sorry. Nothing angers me more than the fact that shaving and hairless-ness has become so standard and expected of by women that no one even questions it anymore. No one looks at a hairy man and thinks “ew”, yet from my own family I’ve heard people tell me I need to shave because I’m hairy and “it’s gross”. I mean wtf, if YOU think it’s gross that’s your OWN problem, because I do not have a problem with it myself. In fact, body hair doesn’t even bother me. I’m wasting my own money and time on shaving and dealing with ingrown hairs for everyone else, because I don’t want to be called disgusting and get rude judgmental looks from strangers - when really, if they’re the ones that have a problem with my body hair, they should be the ones to buy me a razor and shave my legs for me.
I'm so sorry, this has happened to me as well (thankfully teachers never said anything to my face but other adults did). It's so awful. People act like we are entirely unaware of what we look like and that we need their comments on something as trivial as body hair. You're beautiful.
I'm sorry that happened to you. When I was 11 we were doing self portraits and I thought mine looked pretty good and then my teacher held it up and said 'It's nice but it would be more accurate if you added the dark hairs on your upper lip' and then walked off??? And I've been fixated on those hairs for a decade now.
Why are there adults, especially teachers, who think that it's okay to do this? They're supposed to be better and to protect their charges! I was fairly oblivious, so when I finally got rid of my unibrow in middle school, my p.e. teacher loudly praised me for shaving my unibrow during class. It is this kind of stuff that makes us women so self-conscious about regular, natural body hair! I have lots of dark, thick hair and am too hypersensitive to wax, so the constant daily half an hour of plucking and shaving in summer is a pain! I am so, so glad that I found a man who couldn't care less about body hair! When I showed him my leg hair for the first time, he pulled up his pant leg and said "I have more". He didn't even remember that moment, but that meant the world to me! Why is this so unique and special in our society? I'm still too scared to go put into public unshaven, but at least my husband is in my corner. I wish everyone would just let us women be ourselves. We've got better things to do than spend hours every day on looking "acceptable" just so that we won't be shamed!
I've never understood it! I've had men say to me that they think arm pit hair on women is unhygienic... But they had full bush pits! My mind is blown by the absolute lack of introspection and dump truck load of hypocrisy!
Unless you bald on the scalp brow-bone and eyelids don’t chat to me about body hair being unhygienic. Ur scalp must be the tresemé version of a landfill if you feel that way about hair on other parts of the body.
@@reylime2991 That's not the same. There are 'Apocrine glands' that make you sweat from your armpits. The hair in there keeps it damp and helps bacteria grow which causes bad smell. The dampness is also the same reason for shaving the pubic area. Apart from that, body hair is not that unhygenic.

Beautifully said. When we say femininity, we think of aesthetics. How the woman looks. We've been brainwashed to follow what patriarchy created for us and wants us to be. Femininity isn't just long hair, painted nails, dress and heels. True femininity is the energy.
@@loveforeva12 I get that part too but patriarchy or not, a heterosexual woman would stil find ways to become more attractive to the person she wants to attract because that's just natural.
My daughter was born super hairy. She has a unibrow, and mustache which was inherited from me and her dad. She is the most beautiful gem I have ever laid eyes on. And for that, she inspired me to embrace my natural self in all aspects. I stopped shaving, and I am happy.
Also I feel like bc the male gaze exists, women are seen as delicate and treated like children, and grown woman who are not hairless are not seen “attractive” bc they have body hair which is a natural thing, but it’s not aesthetically appealing to men bc we don’t look like a child, which is really disgusting and perverted. Idk, I hope my English is understandable
My exact thought after my first waxing! I thought "Oh now it looks exactly like it did when I was a child" and I stopped having waxings when I really realized that. I'm a grown woman, I don't want to look like a child, I don't want someone to look at me as a child. It's gross.

Just because shaming is a result, that is not to say it is necessary. It is a personal choice. Fuck societal norms/ male beauty standards. It was hard as hell for me to have to be on my own at 16 but I definitely had it better because in my country I could get an emancipation.
When I was a little girl, ladies in my country would breast feed their kids in public. It was the most soothing thing for me to watch. Here in the US, it is considered "uncouth", "nasty". People are so brainwashed. Some people claim to be traumatized by a woman naturally breastfeeding.
I just can't wrap my head around the stigma around feeding a baby or young child. I never shaved any of my hair except my armpits in summer, when I sweat a lot, because otherwise I need a very strong deodorant and I don't like those. But I'm German and when I was young, body hair in Germany was considered absolutely normal and shaving wasn't a thing. @Peace Of Refugee I used to shave my legs, but after realizing how time-consuming it was and how useless it is because it literally grows back in like 2 days, I stopped lmao.
Exactly, everything is a construct. The thought of me possibly being ugly never crossed my mind until I started getting rejected at school, kids saying "ew I wouldn't date her" or literally calling me ugly. I never thought my arms were hairy until family and friends started pointing it out, how I looked like a bear. I never ever thought my skin was dark until my lighter cousins said "oh Sara is dark and that's so funny" and they would literally call my sister and I things like "choco sisters". All this judgment is imposed by society, capitalism, colorism, misogyny. Only as a young adult did I start realizing this, and now I can finally love myself the way I deserve, because we women don't have to look "pretty" for anyone but ourselves.
It's sad too because when I try to explain this concept to older people like my mom, the response is "that's normal" or "that's how it's supposed to be." People adopt and grow up with societal expectations that we're often not taught to question until we're adults (if ever), long after they've affected our psyche as children and adolescents
same thing happened to me, i always thought of myself as beautiful (and the main character), but when high school hit, my self-esteem dropped. people kept pointing out that i was unattractive. but i don't care anymore hihi wooo 💞
Yep yep. I've never thought by boobs were small until my mom's friend was like "oh, you are not wearing a bra?? you know you could get some volume there if you wear one". Afterwards I mentioned my small boobs to my friend (who always thought I had bigger boobs than hers which was not the case) and from that moment on, she started teasing me for having small boobs. People just literally be making shit up and then believe it as if it's unbreakable rules of universe.
I loved how you expressed how your body hair is literal protection against bigoted people, it literally filters them away and left are the ones accepting you for you. I too have struggled with body hair, been made to feel different. But beauty can be so many different things, including ✨hairy✨
I believe I was 10 or 11 when 3 guys (who looked like grown men to me at the time) came up to me and my friend in the street and told me I needed to shave my legs. They were strangers, I'd never met them before and they had the liver to tell me that.
I'm sorry you had to experience that. Some open minded or just normal and educated (bar is so low in our world) should have been there and give them the best of it.
When I had my first time I had my hair grown out down there and he liked it, sooooo..... I think a lot of men like the confidence of a beautiful bush haha
That's how I felt when I was a like in my early teenage years but as I grew older and started to love myself and accept myself I stopped having the pressure to shave the hairs down there (or simply anywhere) who have an important role (They prevent the bacteria from outside to get into your vulva and they keep the temperature at its normale grade) and tbh I felt so weird when I shave once down there- I felt like a baby instead of a grown woman and it made me really uncomfortable
when i was 16 my boyfriend told me he wouldn't go down on me unless i shaved. when i asked my next partner if he wanted me to shave, he seemed taken aback & told me i should just do what made me feel comfortable, that "real men can deal with a bit of hair" despite the gendered language/stereotyping, i'll always be grateful for that. i stopped shaving regularly a few years ago, i've had zero complaints from romantic partners. one partner (who was pretty high) spent about 20 mins stroking my legs the first time we were intimate. the heaviest criticism i get is from my mother who routinely tells me that i "need" to shave because it's "disgusting" - especially my armpits, they're "filthy. at least wear a long sleeved shirt or SOMETHING" it hurts, but I think it's anger at something she never had the freedom to experiment with. she grew up with very defined gender ideals (ie girls have long hair and shave their legs) she was very unhappy when i grew my armpit hair and shaved my head ("i don't care if you want to be a lesbian, but please at least don't dress like a dyke" yeah, i dont even know where to start with that one....) but the best thing i've ever done for my self esteem was to rip away all of the 'pretty girl' facade and rebuild myself into the powerful & sensual woman that i want to be.
The thing that I find sad is that this is probably just a temporary fashion and in less than a decade of us all agreeing not to shave, some model is going to turn up bald as an egg as a fashion statement, (sponsored by razor companies) and we'll all fall for the shaving propaganda again. "Because it's natural: Never shaving again!"
most of these "men" who criticise women for having at least a bit of body hair have never seen a woman upclose except from pornos and prob have body hair long enough for me to dutch braid it

my prediction: body hair is going to be a fashion statement in the near future. A lot of people would start to grow out their body hair and style it, dye it crazy colours.
I definitely prefer my hairy self to anything else. It makes me feel like a woman, and since I've never shaved my genitals it has always felt like a natural progression from girlhood to womanhood. The idea of shaving down there just unsettles me now, and any guy who wants me to shave is a creep in my books. Like?? This signifies I went through puberty and I'm a grown ass consenting adult. That's what disturbs me the most about pushing young girls to shave--it feels so creepy to try to make girls look as pre-pubescent as possible. Obviously no hate to people who prefer their own body shaved, you do you! I'm mostly just talking about the pressure from society and men.
I remember when I heard for the first time that women shaving their pubic region bare was really about subliminally programming men to want prepubescent girls. That was about fifteen or more years ago. Little did I know that as an adult I would later go down a very deep rabbit hole concerning the matter.

@@yeonjunstea9618 It's actually not unhygienic but I understand why you would think that due to societal conditioning, hair does trap odour more but it also traps and gets rid of harmful bacteria that can cause serious problems and being hairless makes you very vulnerable to these. @@mushy470 Well, I see it differently, I also don't like guys with hair on the chest and everywhere but obviously if that's how the person feels better, for me it's perfect although I'd feel uncomfortable if my partner or the person I'm accompanied with has a forest in their armpit while we're eating in a restaurant.....
But can we talk about how this expectation to shave is deeply connected to how pedophilia is rooted in our society. For example, women are expected to be hairless and look like a literal prepubescent child to be consider "pretty" in our society, be shorter than the man in the relationship, have a high pitched voice, be submissive, and the list goes on.
I have thought about something similar, which is likely influenced by those social contracts, but like the way that aging is viewed for women compared to men is so weird. I don't mean the beauty standard of youth, but more that for men you can see and understand a progression in appearance as they age, but for women, it's like child-young woman-then suddenly don't exist-then old hag. To me, it seems that the concept of having progression in life as you age isn't something that's for women when it comes to media depiction, like you only learn about your grandma trying to navigate through life, you don't see women navigating at different points in their life in the media the way it is shown for men.
I do think a good part is also just white supremacy like, you know who has barely visible body hair? Blond people, I'd know cuz I am one and like yeah I shave but it's very much not for aesthetic reasons cuz you literally can't see a difference (it's more a mix of somft and also my armpits actually do smell more when I have hair down there) Either way, if you're naturally blonde you're gonna have a far easier time getting away with not shaving and nobody ever even mentioning it than than if you're not.
If you aren't a pedo you don't like it for the a underage look. It's largely cultural based off societal norms today and that agrees with the misogynistic stuff as well. Many people find a mostly hairless body attractive, it's now rather common for men to do it too in the US. Also it reduces foul odors. I don't find under arm hair or leg hair attractive on a women but I would think she was weird if she shaved her arms. Now I do think those fine short colorless hairs are dead sexy on a women.
@@GlassTopRX7 Well, I'm not saying everyones a pedo, I mean that these standards were based on pdeo povs. Considering in the past it was common to marry children and their bodies naturally would have these traits, I think these preferences were perhaps carried through history to become nows standards - if thats makes sense.
@@rachaelyoung2010 No they never were, domination by men over women sure, but it has nothing to do with pedo anything though. Pedophilia is a mental disorder which is believed to afflict less 5% of adults. A normal person doesn't get turn on by seeing prepubescent people.
This triggered me, i had a god mom who would make me feel bad about having hair under my arm pits at 11 years old and she told me it was nasty. It was like barely there. Now i feel like texting her and calling her out even tho im 24 lmfao
That's pretty awful. Maybe send this to her. She's probably super insecure about her own and just wanted to protect you from being shamed by others. Have a good day lovely ❤️
@@icecreamisMine I would totally buy something like that. I hate the idea of having to navigate the challenge of shaving just to have a swimsuit look decent
I like to wear a swim skirt or these shorts that men like to wear on top of the bikini bottoms. I do not know what else is out there that will work for you :)
I think the reason many people's underarm hair "smells" is because they aren't clarifying like they would on their head. With all the coconut oil in natural deodorants, plus if you have hard water... sometimes soap doesn't cut through the buildup & bacteria can still live there. I use a chelating shampoo occasionally when washing under my pits, & they smell amazing. It's all about upkeep ^_^
Interesting! I definitely feel that if I don't shave my armpits I have to shower more often, so the amount of effort is the same. Perhaps a different soap/product would stop my pits from smelling like onions every time I grow it out...
Emma Memma Well there is a bacteria mostly found on womens bodies which makes the sweat smell like onion!! If you google it you can find more about it. Idk what more to say other than its very natural even tho it can be pretty annoying sometimes lol. The same thing happens with me whether i shave or not does not really matter.
Bentonite clay masks are supposed to help draw out impurities along with smell in underarms, but I just use a quarter sized amount of "Ouidad Water Works" shampoo every other week, & my pits don't smell. The other times I wash I use a "Vanicream Z-bar" because it kills yeast with zinc (like a dandruff shampoo would- except it's a bar soap for all over the body). Yeast can make ppl stink too (like a sour smell), & in humid climates sometimes it's a problem when you don't use antiperspirant & only deodorant). Other smells can happen if you eat garlic or cruciferous veggies- they make your whole body have a funky odor temporarily. Oh & not cleaning clothes properly transfers bacteria back onto the skin & can make clean pits stink, that's why you have to clean all clothes with an enzymatic cleaner when you start natural deodorant. I used one for pets called "Nature's Miracle". That's what's recommended by most bloggers. Had to find out all these things the hard way, so hopefully this helps anyone struggling 🙏
@@GamerBunny2024 Thanks for the tip on enzymatic cleaner for pets, I have some left over from when my dog was a puppy. Because of my job and hobbies, I'm in active wear most days, and even if sport detergent gets the stink out of the clothes I do feel like there are times when the smell is "re-activated" during the day. I will give the enzymatic cleaner a try! How did you use it? I once tried a mineral deodorant and it made my pits reek, it was a hundred times worse than not using deodorant/antiperspirant at all. Another thing I tried was a herbal deodorant, it was pretty "meh". I wonder why it suited me so badly when some people swear by it. I would like to stop using antiperspirants, but so far I've had no luck finding anything that works.
As an Asian brown girl from India, my mom has always been against waxing or shaving.. I was also taught by this "society" That hair is disgusting and unhygienic.. Which is wierd. The reason why my mom was against this was because she said, "it's gonna grow longer and faster once you start shaving it.. And then you have to spend your 'hard-earned money' On these stupid shaving products".. And the thing you said about hair being a barrier, and it being a protection for the skin is so right!! Loved your video! Gave me more confidence about body hair!! 😊✌🏻
Indian mother's reasoning are so weird lmao. My mom was always against makeup and didn't let me wear it because it'll ruin my skin and make me age faster??? And because of that I never got into it. At the end of the day I'm glad that i didn't wear it and accepted and loved my skin with acne and all. It's actually weird how we treat anything beauty related in India like we say don't do xyz because you'll end up uglier in the longer run instead of saying love yourself and don't give in to the beauty standards
@@Himanshi.Y Depending on the makeup it can happen, youre not aging faster or anything, but your skin does partly absorb the stuff you put on it. Some makeup brands will turn my face into a crater after just one day.

One time my mother scolded me for not shaving. I remember vividly she said "Its like.. You're not even a girl anymore." This baffled me a little, because my mother always speaks highly of feminism and equal rights, and then she spews out these words. I furrowed my brows and told her "If you discriminate women for having body hair, you have no right to call yourself a feminist." Shes still angry with me, but i don't care. In fact, i plan on dyeing my armpit hair bright, hot pink.

Hey, I am an 18 year old girl and i have never shaved my legs and arms because I didn't want to. And I have dark body hair. I always got stupid comments, especially from boys and I had the feeling of being ugly and that I have to shave to be feminim. Now I get compliments from other girls that I am brave enough for not shaving. I think its so weird that women are expected to be a hairless baby and I dont wanna be that. I wish for every girl that she does what she wants and not what society wants. Be yourself
I’m a woman who hasn’t shaved for a couple year now. I feel like most you tubers who talk about body hair are shaved, which always made their message ring a bit hollow. It was really refreshing to see someone with thick body hair like me.
Reminds me of the conversation I was having the other day about the conditioned feelings of shame that women have about their breast. Having to always cover them like that's just how it has to be but ......why? Not saying I want to run around topless in today's society but it's the deep conditioning that blows my mind and this is yet another thing that society has been trying to condition into some parts of the world.
I feel the same about my chest. I love to be topless when I am alone and if we weren't so trained to see breasts as inherently sexual or a thing to stare at lustingly I would feel absolutely comfortable walking around outside with an open button up. Men can do it without being objectified. I really hope at some point in the future male and female presenting chests will be seen in the same light.

I stan you. I am a teenager female who isn't allowed to shave and forced to love myself even with my insecurities. I have very hairy genes. I used to hate myself for it. I would look in the mirror and shame myself for having body hair. I used to cover my arms and legs because of it. I made a new year resolution to love myself more. I've started to love myself more now. Why for females body hair is "gross", but for men it's normal? I honestly don't care anymore. If you are going through something like me, just let me tell you, you are a QUEEN. You are beautiful. Thank you for you're time.
I have the opposite problem. My mother tells me that if I’m under her roof that I HAVE to shave and I think it’s contributed a lot to my insecurities about it.
I notice that trends are literally just the opposite of what is naturally occurring in most if not all humans. *I’m so used to seeing a feminine Sasquatch in the mirror.* lol Since the beginning I saw body hair as mature and even sexy. I hate that I can feel so much love and acceptance for my body until I have to think of going out with shorts on 😭. I think that is another reason why in my 20 years I’ve avoided going out as much as possible during summer. That along with I hate the sun. July really is a dreaded month and the only month I’d consider hair removal. Usually only via creams because I am NOT spending two hours de-bushing my legs and trying to give my ass a natural line up 😂. The relationship I have with my body hair is literally the longest [only lol] relationship I’ve ever had. I wish it was normal and wasn’t considered brave to live naturally as I do.
Well, i feel the same way about dresses... I love them but the compromiseeee is just tiring, but i think high socks (white or black) that go all the way to the knees is a great alternative! Even if you don't shave it gives the same ✨vibe✨ so maybe consider buying them and enjoy your summer(? You only live once! So live your best life! Don't let something as silly as body hair steal your summer!
Ugh yeah it's so insidious, like when I look in the mirror I think I look beautiful but it's only when I think about other people looking at me that I feel insecure
Not only this but if you think about it, their depictions of hairless women is borderline pedophilic because there is no doubt women in that era had pubic hair. Disgustingly, they might've been using prepubescent bodies as muses.

after my dad had a piece of chocolate on his cheek for over 4 hours i asked him if he ever looks in the mirror-and he said no. i realized how much time he saves by not caring at all what he looks like. women are told their value is their appearance, and for many it completely engulfs our time and life. emerging from an eating disorder spending all day thinking of my body and it’s perception, i am so done seeing my body as anything other than this temporary meat vessel i am living in.
Yes!! I hate it because we already have this idea on our heads, even when we realize that it's absurd and it's brings down (or even kills) our potential 😕
As someone who has been shamed for my body hair throughout my whole life, seeing you embrace your body hair makes me feel very comforted and makes me want to try doing the same. I remember during high school, there was this blonde girl constantly shaming me for having hairy arms. She would say things like 'Why are your arms so hairy? I don't want to imagine how the rest of your body looks like. Ew.' unprompted. I always felt like absolute shit after she would comment things like that...and it only fueled my pre-existing insecurities. I am ashamed to go outside and be my natural self because I don't want to be shamed for it. I feel like many women feel like that. I hope it gets better and that people start accepting everyone, no matter how their body looks like. But that's far from happening. :(
I’m a Latino girl that’s always had super dark and obvious hair since I was about 7 years old. I’ve always been incredibly insecure about it, partly because my brothers always bullied me for being more hairy then them and partly because I went to a school full of fair skinned, light haired people that didn’t have to deal with obvious hair. I’ve been struggling a lot with being comfortable with my hair and my body in general, and this was a really nice and comforting video to have, thank you ✨
Literally haven’t shaved since August after realizing how truly TRULY absurd it is. It’s not serving me, it takes time and money, and it doesn’t make me any more or less hygienic 🤷🏼♀️🥰
when i grow out my body hair i just feel like mother nature hehe. when i think abt going to the beach or something and i get insecure i always have to ask myself like “who am i living for, other people or me?” then i get ashamed of getting insecure because of other people in the first place.
Also, another thing I don't like about shaving is that body hair is supposed to signal maturity. If you have no hair you just look like a child. I do not want to look like a kid and I do not want people to be attracted to me because I look like a kid!
@@graciehooper7722 Hormones during puberty is what starts hair growth, especially under your arms and in more private regions. Therefore shaving these parts of your body can make you look more childish. Some may call it "youthful" but I prefer childish. Hair is a symbol of sexual maturity in humans. I am not saying that a woman shaving her legs look like a child, but I think it says a lot about our society that being hairless is what is considered "sexy".
@902 102 I am not saying that women who shave do so because of men. But I do think that many would not even think of shaving if it were not for the way society today sees shaving. And I do not want to shame women who shave. I am just stating how I feel if I shave. I do think my initial comment could have been worded differently so I apologize for that.
@902 102 If it makes you uncomfortable, it’s likely because it’s true. Pedophilic culture has also contributed plenty to our present day beauty standards. People prefer to avoid this discussion, or never even realize it to begin with, but a lot of our beauty standards seem to have a lot to do with looking younger than we really are-even infantile. Think about this “instagram face” and the filters we’ve created; big sparkly eyes with huge wispy lashes, plump rosy cheeks, small noses, “baby hairs”, no pores, “perfect” skin, anti-aging products, hairlessness/shaving, etc. I’ve literally seen an extremely popular instagram filter called “cute baby face”. There’s an odd obsession in present day society with looking like a baby, but being a “sexy” adult at the same time. It’s weird asf. And if you look at our history as a society, pedophilia used to be so normal (due to generations of trauma and desensitization surrounding it, starting as far back as colonization), that not many people used to bat an eye, even in the 90s. Consider Aaliyah with R Kelly in the 90s, interviewers and journalists reported on their relationship as if it was something positive and sweet, they saw no issue with Aaliyah being with a man literally twice her age while she was only 15 years old. The 1978 movie “Pretty Baby” starred Brooke Shields when she was 12 years old, it was a movie centering her as the protagonist, and as a prostitute. The 1997 movie, Lolita, also glorifies a grown man having a relationship with a little girl. These movies STILL influence society and culture today, you can look up “Lolita aesthetic” and find a surplus of people who live every day of their lives inspired by this pedophilic movie. I’m not saying most of us are knowingly pedophilic, but we do unknowingly cater to pedophilic culture with the way we conform to certain beauty standards. “Throughout history, subjecting a child to physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and neglect has been condoned, and in some cases even encouraged. Children were commonly exploited and used for the advancement of parents or adults. Historically, children were given few or no rights and were often considered to be insignificant or unimportant. In many cases, children were subjected to cruel and unusual treatment and were offered little or no protection from abuse and exploitation. It took many years for child abuse prevention organizations to be established and much longer for various countries to institute laws which condemn child abuse and neglect.” - children-laws.laws.com/child-abuse/child-abuse-history We’ve only established laws to protect children from abuse (including sexual abuse) in recent decades, we had laws in place to protect animals before we did children!!! It’s something most people are too uncomfortable to talk about, but if we never do, we will never fully eradicate pedophilic culture.
“If you choose to not participate in this societal activity then you’re othered.” This and it applies to women who do not actively seek to have children. It’s like women lose their value for not playing the role the patriarchy has set for them. I think that would be a discussion you could have
Your body is literally telling you not to shave cause of the ingrown hairs and I get them too so I feel you. My husband doesnt care and when i get insecure he helps me thru it
My biggest insecurity is my facial hair. I've tried everything , even laser hair removal but it just won't go away. People need to understand that for some of us it isn't a choice and we're born like that. And no one should feel ashamed because of something like hair. Like, its just hair. It's 2021 people need to get over it already 🙄
Yeah this, I think my coil instigated some facial hair under my chin, jawline ect... and although I really feel it’s natural not to shave to be honest the facial hair is so hard xD society still sees people in such categoric ways and so many women I’ve talked to have facial hair, and many others find it hard to even talk about...

I would usually shave a day or two after receiving those comments a few years ago, but i just get annoyed whenever they mention my body hair now. I don't understand why they bring it up 24/7 and why they want me to shave them, because it is literally my body and they are my legs. I'll shave when i want to 🙄. + my dad looooves using the "you won't get a boyfriend if you're hairy" excuse too. 1. sir, you're the one who gave me the hairy genes 2. I'm not looking to shave my legs for a dude when i have a girlfriend who's not going to judge me for having body hair
I haven’t been able to shave (I tried a couple times when younger) for years because of a chronic illness, and I haven’t worn shorts since then. If people ever see my legs they get so grossed out. Even if I say ‘I can’t shave because of a chronic illness’ they don’t ask about the chronic illness. Society has genuinely destroyed my confidence.
I can relate 100% with growing up and being hairier than most of the girls I knew. The struggle of shaving all the time. It's great that you're out here sharing the experience. Hopfully this video reaches young girls feeling like they don't fit in.

I think there's also a factor of suffering in there. I mean, when a woman has been convinced that she has to shave her legs or otherwise she would be doomed, she feels betrayed when she finds out that other women can live without doing it, and it's actually fine. So, sometimes we prefer to live in ignorance rather than confronting that we threw away our choices/body autonomy/self-expression for nothing.

I stopped shaving my body hair in September of 2020 and it is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I am finally beginning to accept myself as I am and learn more about who I am. It's baffling but still not at all surprising how many people get so upset over body hair that isn't even on their body. I've had COWORKERS comment on my body hair when I wear shorter pants or short sleeve shirts. They never say it to my face though, they say it behind my back and I end up finding out from someone else. On one hand it bothers me, but on another I feel some kind of weird satisfaction that the natural hair on my body stirred such a reaction.
Yesss sis! I haven’t shaved in over ten years and I feel awesome 👏 and I’ve never had a problem with my sex life because of it. Real men are open to real women and it’s important to love what loves you. Love it!
One day I just got so tired of the upkeep with shaving my legs that I just told myself I was done shaving my legs, and I stopped that day, but I still shaved my underarms and tweezed my eyebrows that I had been self conscious of since 14. After almost a year of not shaving my legs, the feeling came back, but this time it was me being so tired of keeping up with shaving my armpits. Since it was so easy to give up shaving my legs I decided to give up shaving my armpits (even though it was out of my comfort zone). I after about 2 months of them growing out and seeing my armpits fully hairy, instead of me feeling less womanly, surprisingly it made me appreciate myself as a woman in my pure natural form. If women weren’t meant to have armpit hair, it wouldn’t grow. This thought made me feel even more confident in my true self. About a month later after feeling so good from not shaving and embracing my natural beauty, the feeling came back one last time. This time, about not wanting to continuously tweeze my eyebrows, I was trying to keep up with having eyebrows that weren’t the way mine were naturally meant to be. So one day I stepped out of my comfort zone once again and stopped tweezing. Now four months later, my eyebrows are back to their complete natural shape, and I actually feel that it makes me look much more youthful and I look in my reflection and see myself, not me trying to look like someone else. At 25 years old I can look at myself in the mirror and see the real me and it has allowed me to love everything about my natural womanhood and natural beauty. I am my unique self, and it feels so free and liberating! Amazing what stepping out of society’s standards can do for you mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Thank you for spreading awareness about this touchy topic!! 💕

This was meant to happen :p lol

Wish the 'cool' people at my school were like this! Sadly they were the complete opposite.
that's so sweet ahh

Thank you guys!
Same thing except third grade a girl told me I was hairer than her dad, it really hurt me a lot
I despise the "It's unhygienic" argument with every molecule of my organism. 100% yes to what you said.
I've never understood it! I've had men say to me that they think arm pit hair on women is unhygienic... But they had full bush pits! My mind is blown by the absolute lack of introspection and dump truck load of hypocrisy!

I just can't wrap my head around the stigma around feeding a baby or young child. People don't get bent outta shape watching other mammals feeding their offspring to KEEP THEM ALIVE... why does it happen with women? Formula or pumping products are not free, breastfeeding is. @Peace Of Refugee
I used to shave my legs, but after realizing how time-consuming it was and how useless it is because it literally grows back in like 2 days, I stopped lmao.

When I had my first time I had my hair grown out down there and he liked it, sooooo..... I think a lot of men like the confidence of a beautiful bush haha
I learned that most men don’t even care about body hair. Only boys do.
That's how I felt when I was a like in my early teenage years but as I grew older and started to love myself and accept myself I stopped having the pressure to shave the hairs down there (or simply anywhere) who have an important role (They prevent the bacteria from outside to get into your vulva and they keep the temperature at its normale grade) and tbh I felt so weird when I shave once down there- I felt like a baby instead of a grown woman and it made me really uncomfortable
when i was 16 my boyfriend told me he wouldn't go down on me unless i shaved. when i asked my next partner if he wanted me to shave, he seemed taken aback & told me i should just do what made me feel comfortable, that "real men can deal with a bit of hair" despite the gendered language/stereotyping, i'll always be grateful for that.
i stopped shaving regularly a few years ago, i've had zero complaints from romantic partners. one partner (who was pretty high) spent about 20 mins stroking my legs the first time we were intimate.
the heaviest criticism i get is from my mother who routinely tells me that i "need" to shave because it's "disgusting" - especially my armpits, they're "filthy. at least wear a long sleeved shirt or SOMETHING" it hurts, but I think it's anger at something she never had the freedom to experiment with. she grew up with very defined gender ideals (ie girls have long hair and shave their legs)
she was very unhappy when i grew my armpit hair and shaved my head ("i don't care if you want to be a lesbian, but please at least don't dress like a dyke" yeah, i dont even know where to start with that one....)
but the best thing i've ever done for my self esteem was to rip away all of the 'pretty girl' facade and rebuild myself into the powerful & sensual woman that i want to be.
Just be yourself, I wouldn't mind having a woman with being hairy.
It's sad that we reached the point where we call people brave for not shaving...
Yes, but in the mean time, I'd say, let's embrace the bravery until we can get it to "multiple way are normal + accepted" :)
Lol, this is stupid decision, note "pride"
most of these "men" who criticise women for having at least a bit of body hair have never seen a woman upclose except from pornos and prob have body hair long enough for me to dutch braid it
agreed! and really it just reveals what a pitiable state they're in (+ the unrealistic/skewed beauty standards)! So uniformed + very likely insecure, because why else would they feel the need to criticize other ppl's choices? *sigh* Can't we just live + let live?
I once had a man for whom it was important that the woman has shaved legs, we even discuss it and I said that I wouldn't shave just for someone else. For him it wasn't a big deal that he wants me to shave my legs. And guess what? In the end he doesn't recognized my unshaved legs. I asked him about it and said that it isn't that important to him after all. I can't remember that he said something different about it 😂 No other man was ever bothered nor say something about it. Nope.
I'm all for people not shaving if they don't want to, but implying men who prefer shaved body hair are pedophiles is a bit absurd, don't you think?
I remember when I heard for the first time that women shaving their pubic region bare was really about subliminally programming men to want prepubescent girls. That was about fifteen or more years ago. Little did I know that as an adult I would later go down a very deep rabbit hole concerning the matter.
I tried shaving down there once & I hated it😭😌
@@jennali9800 i don't think that they are saying that all men are pedophilic in nature of course, but men have been conditioned to find traits of younger girls attractive. petite, hairless, clear skin, etc.
@@camillefaith2005 The "any guy who wants me to shave is a creep in my books" seems pretty clear to me, though. I am not convinced that we can sum it up as easily as "men are conditioned to like traits of younger girls." After all, a full, mature figure is the prevailing beauty standard in the Western world right now. That's hardly what young girls typically look like.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having body hair. Not everyone has to act and look the same. Looking different is good too.
I agree. Personally I don't like body hair, but I won't shame someone for choosing to embrace theirs.
Yes, it's true, but you have to admit it's unhygienic.
@@yeonjunstea9618 It's actually not unhygienic but I understand why you would think that due to societal conditioning, hair does trap odour more but it also traps and gets rid of harmful bacteria that can cause serious problems and being hairless makes you very vulnerable to these. We grow hair for a reason!!
@@yeonjunstea9618 you grow hair for a reason. It's more unhygienic to remove it. Talk to any actual dermatologist about this and they'll say this.
Blond people, I'd know cuz I am one and like yeah I shave but it's very much not for aesthetic reasons cuz you literally can't see a difference (it's more a mix of somft and also my armpits actually do smell more when I have hair down there)
Either way, if you're naturally blonde you're gonna have a far easier time getting away with not shaving and nobody ever even mentioning it than than if you're not.

Yup!!! There’s product buildup whether u use natural deodorant or antiperspirant. I just use an antibacterial hand wash every once in a while.
I don't want to imagine how the rest of your body looks like. Ew.' unprompted. I always felt like absolute shit after she would comment things like that...and it only fueled my pre-existing insecurities. Also, another thing I don't like about shaving is that body hair is supposed to signal maturity. If you have no hair you just look like a child. I do not want to look like a kid and I do not want people to be attracted to me because I look like a kid!

How do women who shave look like children I know many women who shave they don’t at all
@@graciehooper7722 Hormones during puberty is what starts hair growth, especially under your arms and in more private regions.
It took many years for child abuse prevention organizations to be established and much longer for various countries to institute laws which condemn child abuse and neglect.” - children-laws.laws.com/child-abuse/child-abuse-history
We’ve only established laws to protect children from abuse (including sexual abuse) in recent decades, we had laws in place to protect animals before we did children!!!

It's the "being a mom one day and giving the gift of bodyhair acceptance to my daughter" for me.
I’ve often thought writing a children’s book about body hair acceptance would be really amazing! My son is uncircumcised and in the us I’ve bought books about it for him. I was curious to see if there where any books for little girls about having long labia but there isn’t
We teach our little ones about really body parts, their names and acceptance of them.
I once waxed my face for an event cause I grow a beard... Just a note for all of you, NEVER wax your face. It's dumb painful and at least for me, the hair grew back in like a day. That shit was not a vibe.
It's already a pain in the eyebrows, i can't imagine the CHIN 🥴
Grew out my leg hair a few months ago. Still at war with it because it's ingrained in my brain to think leg hair on women is ugly. I told myself to keep it at least until the end of winter and then I'll see
Goddd this video was what i needed. My mom, dad and sister literally tell me once my leg hair is prominent to go shave my legs.
1. sir, you're the one who gave me the hairy genes
2. I'm not looking to shave my legs for a dude when i have a girlfriend who's not going to judge me for having body hair
I genuinely love you💙 your family can go mind their own business😶
I love #2 🤣🤗🥰
@@laurtary thank you :))) luckily they haven't brought in up for a while now so i hope they got the message ^^
@@alisonhenry820 _wink wink_ , haha
I hate the fact that women are taught to care about boyfriends and ‘achieving’ one. Super toxic and weird 🥴.
I'm sorry to hear that that's your experience. I hope you still manage to love yourself and build up your confidence one day!
That wig looks GORG on you. The long straight middle part is such a look on you 😩👊✨
I can relate 100% with growing up and being hairier than most of the girls I knew. The struggle of shaving all the time. It's great that you're out here sharing the experience. Hopfully this video reaches young girls feeling like they don't fit in.
Here I am
YES. As a girl who stopped shaving years ago myself but with super dark body hair, I am so supportive of these views being shared and heard! more women and men need to know its ok not to shave! You are still beautiful no matter what and its none of their business really either so it shouldn't matter in the first place.
YES! I also stopped shaving years ago, and sometimes I get in a really girly mood and wear frilly pretty dresses and I chuckle when people look down and their eyes bulge when they see my hairy legs. I love not shaving, I feel beautiful and feminine ♡
@@UnderdarkDrow_ that's awesome! women pressure other women to shave and what for. once you get past the initial embarrassment it becomes so easy to go out in skirts and dresses with hairy legs and then you feel completely free, a lot more free than worrying about if you missed a spot shaving lmao
I can't wait for this to be normal in the female beauty standard.
More people need to stand up then!
It’s never gonna happen lol
I dunno...I'm starting to see male hair grooming standards become more rigid so I'd be surprised if this changes any time soon.
@@IzzyInTheCity thats unfortunate
I think there's also a factor of suffering in there. I mean, when a woman has been convinced that she has to shave her legs or otherwise she would be doomed, she feels betrayed when she finds out that other women can live without doing it, and it's actually fine. So, sometimes we prefer to live in ignorance rather than confronting that we threw away our choices/body autonomy/self-expression for nothing.
That's so true, deep down they want to do the same but are unable to have a fucking rational thought and be free from it
girl- the power that you emit here. not even relating to the subject at hand, its just your confidence, how articulate you are, etc. the algorithm and my recommended did me a favor here (and yes, i absolutely see the irony in this statement as you speak about how meaningless our lives are)
I came here to say this but they said it better so ^
THIS
I personally feel uncomfortable with armpit hair, but I literally never shave my legs (free insulations), but I understand the importance of this topic, and I'm here for it! It's good to see confident women speaking up about this!
I sometimes shave pits and hair but got zero issues with hairy legs
My therapist tried to shame me for my hairyness simply because I can't be bothered
@@strawberrybunny.2983
Hello, I think it's because your therapist thinks you aren't taking care of yourself which is a huge indicator of depression and apathy. It's what they are taught. I once came to a therapy session with disheveled greasy hair and my therapist asked me if something happened, if I'm particularly in a bad depression swing. And he was right, I was super depressed, I didn't care about being clean, I didn't care about anything.
You should just tell your therapist that you choose to not shave, not because of your mental state because your therapist is probably worried.
@@hanillust I no longer have that therapist and I did try to explain that I quite honestly did not care/ mind it one bit but she still kept insisting as the things that I "should" be doing. Also I struggle with self grooming less for my depressive feelings or feelings of low self esteem but more do to physical disability and being in the autism spectrum ( I don't always grasp why people do what they do- although I like shaved stuff on others I couldn't care less if they decide not to as long as neither party shames the other)
She ain't even giving me the option NOT to, and made it compulsory winch was shitty of her. And ironically I managed to in the end learn how to take care of my hair by simply replacing my shampoo and watching tutorials of how to put my hair up
@@hanillust besides, I think you can only know for certain in the shaving aspect if you knew that at some point they were the type to shave/ put on make up/ fixing their hair in elaborate up dos
and they suddenly stopped.
If it was behaviour that was reported and or seen before then you could argue it's true depression and apathy. Alternatively if the patience expresses desires of more rigorous self care but having no energy to
Don't see dudes being treated the same for not always looking their hottest or god forbid rarely shaving lolol
@@strawberrybunny.2983
Absolutely agree with everything you said. I'm glad you have a different therapist now. You shouldn't let others demean you, especially when you aren't harming anyone with the act of not shaving. Please take care and stay strong.
Unfortunately it's a cycle, people be saying shit like that to us as young girls and we internalize it and then can't bring ourselves to stop shaving
So happy for you :)

I love how people still make the excuse that “we don’t need our body hair”, and then ignore videos like this demonstrating how your body hair stops chafing, etc
Lol, shut the fuck up! Body hair is disgusting.
Shaving also takes a lot of time, especially in summer. I'm not wasting that time anymore
It takes about 10 minutes, you lazy AF
@@alishma5926 You don't get it. Time ads up. And it's not really the point. I just don't want to shave because body hair doesn't bother me.

I'm 6'1 and have long legs. It takes waay longer then 10 mins to shave lol what a pointles comment, not everyone is you and has same amount of hair as you do...
I remember about 8 years ago i saw article in newspaper like "omg that male photographer shoot women with hairy armpits oh wow so strange we ll ask him what does he think about hairy legs too" today this article would be so fucking ridiculous. Thanks to all beautiful feminists
I was one of the girls from his photoshots. And his name is Ben Hopper. I'm really thinking about growing out my hair again. 🤔
I dont shave for People. I do it for myself becaus thats how i feel comfortable. I dont Care if other People shave or not.
I'm so glad you mentioned how painful it can be after you shaved. I have the same post-shaving experience as you and it's so hard to explain to people how uncomfortable it is to shave.
As a hairy woman, I always shave in the same direction as the hair grows to avoid ingrowns, and my hairs are really black and I'm quite pale so it's very noticeble I bleach my stomach and arm hairs in the summer, honestly are so much work, but I'm European so I don't have the courage to just not care about it, and when I was in school some boys would make fun of my hairy arms, I'm just so tired of this judgemental society.
I am as well European, and in school they mocked my slightly hairy arms. After time I started to using wax on my arms ,and now after years I regret waxing couple od strands of hair on my arms.Right now I am not touching my arms but there are a lot of bold spots because of waxing. My mother always said to me that it is a part of my body,I should not be ashamed of it.But kids man,the kids can make you feel ashamed for the reasons that you can not control.
Same here!! Ive been shaving everything since I was a kid and can’t get out of this cycle’
@@petramilic7509 I am also eastern european but very few girls in my school would shave their arms so it was seen ascompletely normal to have hairy arms. Once I shaved them and many asked me why do you shave your arms? Seems like only leg hair, armpit hair and upper lip hair struggle to be accepted lol

Same thing here! Love her voice and cadence too 👌✨
My mom always tells me to wax my arms and legs because it's " socially inappropriate " and " disgusting", same with my acne
She even took me to a dermatologist and asked him how i can fix my hairy skin
I always tell her to just stop looking at it if she doesn't like it but i still feel insecure
Moms like that are insecure themselves. The problem isn't you, it's their low self esteem that they're trying to fix by putting their kids down.
My father is the same about acne. I'm in university in another city and last summer I went at my hometown and he didn't want me to meet his colleagues at work because they will talk about my acne. Now I don't have acne anymore and this winter I met his colleagues (they are women) and when dad came home he told me that one of them said that I'm really short. ...... Bitch it's not of your business! I don't care what ppl talk but my father does and I have hated his insecurity of me my whoooooleeee life! Like you f-ing grow up man??!!
I think she might be projecting her own insecurities. I guarantee you she was a hairy teenager too and her own mom told her it was "socially inappropriate" and "disgusting."
If I could go back in time I would make sure that us ladies would never have to shave especially not to please a man
