I believed you handled that flawlessly! Like, even when you “snapped”, it wasn’t hurtful or mean or anything. It was mostly an acknowledge of “dude, you talk too much”. I can understand a comment throughout the night but going on and on about it? Bro, you are a bigger man than I am.
Bro that wasn't even an outburst, you handled it to the best of your known ability at that time, people still laughed and you still delivered props to you famalam!!
your 'snap' was still so polite that she will probably go home and still think she was the funniest person in that room and did a great job. so as we dutch say "je bent zeker de leukste thuis"
@@Nyxxeonn Thanks, much appreciated . I hope Drew learns that phrase/saying if he ever has the pleasure of touring there again... With the misfortune of her being in the audience again. 😂
This is so wild to me. I've only been to a couple of comedy shows, and I sat at the very back both times so there was no chance of me being included in anything. How people are confident and shameless enough to interrupt a show like this is something I'll never understand.
I do the same. Comedians can be pretty hurtful and disguise it as being a joke, thus accepting no responsibility. I once went into a club at a festival just to sit down and get out of the heat. I didn’t find the comedian funny so I just sat there relaxing. Of course he called me out like the ass he was because I wasn’t laughing. Back row, or at least a dozen rows out.
I LOVE these real looks at problems in your show! I’ve always loved your humor and these glimpses into your real life in stage make me have SO much more respect for you! Well done!
You are brilliant at psychology Drew. You are great at reading the room and trying to deflect (is that the right word) and keep things cool and funny even in difficult situations. Show must go on. Bravo👏👏
I appreciate Drew's candor at the end of the video about the situation. Also, the juxtaposition of his serious tone and the banana he's sitting on reaches an unintended perception of satire near montey python levels... Thanks for being you, Drew. Keep up the great work!
I've said it b4 but I love this format of analyzing ur performances and audience interaction, really let's us get in it head as a performer, so thanks... it's a cool insight :)))
You were perfect. You couldn’t have handled it better. I’ll never get to see you live, but I sure do enjoy your channel and your videos. Thank you for the smiles your bring. Your ADHD wife skit has been shared far and wide. Blessings.
I have some experience with standup and a little with hecklers/ disturbances. Sometimes I think people’s brains just takes off on the track of “this isn’t a performance, it’s a conversation”. Sometimes with a little bit of “human on stage funny, get laugh, I want laugh to, I funny” in various degrees mixed into it. I think It can be caused by alcohol or drugs, bad social awareness, bad impulse control, a bit of unwellnes- or a mix of it. Point is- WELL DONE. Drew is to this day the best at handling this kind of situations the I know of.
Dutch people are very direct, when she asked you "should I leave?" you should've said YES, after the show she was acting annoying outside as well. I was at your show in Amsterdam, and I probably would have told her off a lot sooner. What I found more disturbing was at the end when that obnoxious couple tried to leave until you tried to tell "that" joke and he became all hostile, a shitty end to a difficult evening...I felt for you and your team, it's not the way to start in Europe. I hope this doesn't discourage you coming back to our sinking country in the future. Support act was great by the way (I forgot his name, don't tell him 😅)
I really like your format here and the way you broke down how you would have done it differently. It's not an easy thing keeping the show together and these are great lessons.
Why some people feel entitled and so special in this world? There are like 100 people in that room and she thinks that she can be the only person talking and interact with the comedian. You are not a special snowflake. You are just like everybody else. You paid a ticket to enjoy a show. If you don't like it then leave. If you want a refund, request a refund but not during the show, it is disrespectful to you, the comedian and everyone else in that room. LOGIC HAS LEFT THE BUILDING.
I loved your line about getting her home before the rain began. You are compassionate, which makes your performance style pleasurable to listen to and opens the gate to handle controversial subjects in your material without provoking hecklers. Here it backfired but this was still good! Your compassion made dealing with interruption more difficult but it made your response better at the same time. I enjoyed watching you handle her without losing control. Sure,, you could have shut her up quicker, but you stick to YOUR style, and thats strong! 🎉
Advice: One of my favorite comedians will say a phrase to let the security know to kick the person out but it isn't rude to start any issue during the show. "Hey can we get this person a drink?" Annoying person thinks they are getting a drink and actually gets escorted out.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Nice one. Can imagine them all smug and condescending trotting behind security hoping for glass of the finest bubbly only to have their sorry ass kicked out of the door and hear it lock behind them?
I've seen a comedian do it himself, and the annoying persons actually got a drink in the bar outside the performance room. One drink is a bargain to make everybody happy again.
I think you handled that better than I would, I love that you have the crowd on your side, I found you through a search of how comedians handle hecklers (because I'm considering going and trying out for open mic night) and I watch various hecklers to see what I'm up against. I find you hilarious, and if you come to Orlando, I'll try to get tickets to see a show,
Bro, you handled her in such a calm manner. And in showing vulnerability the rest of the audience was totally sympathetic. And you gave us all some good laughs at her expense.
It really sucks and is hard to watch because you're very empathetic with how you approach these kind of situations. Unfortunately, you're giving these people much more patience than they would ever give you if you dared interrupt them in their day to day life. I think a firm shutdown is the only way to get the point across because they don't understand subtlety, and if they still continue after that they'd probably have to be removed.
i don't see it like you snapped. the part that you introduced with "and that's when I snapped..." was the best remark imho! calm, not hurtful, on point with a fitting energy... a good joke!!! maybe it triggers feeling awkward or misplaced when you tap into that not often visited part of yours, at least I'm at times when I do. But I thought it suited you and you handled it well.... and there will be less anxiety with more experience hence calmness in those situations! you know how to play and hit... keep trusting yourself, brother! 💪
You could always ask Steve Hofstetter how to handle hecklers. It's pretty much what he's known for across YT and social media. Personally, I think you handled it well, and the crowd received it well. Good on you for finally putting your foot down, and I hope future shows don't leave you feeling down about it.
A lack of understanding of social cues, it is difficult to read the room for some people, we have differing brain types. For me as someone with an AuDHD brain type, I find it hard to read social cues given by people with Allistic/neurotypical brain types, yet NT brain types seem to find it difficult to read neurodivergent social cues. We speak different non verbal languages, studies have shown communication between the same brain types is more efficient than between differing brain types. Neither is wrong, it's just a funny quirk present in our speciation.
Hey, be gentle to yourself. You did a great job hanging in there and I love your self-reflection. We all can learn from our actions. I am so happy to see your journey and to see you doing so well! Keep going!
I'm sure this had been said but I'll say it again or now. Bro you handled everything perfectly!! It's a comedy stand up show. You tried to spin an annoying heckler into your stand up. Not easy sometimes. You gave everything you could. Most importantly, you gave in when you realized your audience was annoyed with her. That's when you turn up. Bravo sir!! You handled it perfectly.
I think you handled it well. You are incredibly gifted and the truth is, this day and age there are people who don't know how to act in public and some times they need the direction they didn't get throughout life. Keep doing what you do because we are loving it!
I don’t know how y’all comedians do it. How y’all work the crowd, talk on your feet, and manage shitty people so effectively is absolutely incredible. Even if I felt I was the funniest person in the world, I don’t think I could ever do it.
I'm not a comedian so tell me to stfu if I'm wrong. But doesn't continually engaging with her after she is quiet egging her on to keep going? First bridge joke didn't work and so you did a second one and she thought the banter was continuing. Seems to me like an attempt on your part to establish dominance, but it's just encouraging the troll to troll further.
I think you handled it EXTREMELY well. Tons of respect. Yes, eveything can be a teachable moment but mostly for that girl who has an easy job when going to any show. Sit there, don't interrupt and enjoy. Pretty simple.
As a representative for everyone else, how about if you are an alcoholic, or a Dutch person, you can just stay home instead of burdening everyone with your existence
you did very well, handled it like a pro. In the end what matters is that the audience has a good time, you could clearly hear that they liked the way you handled this heckler.
Another approach when you're about ready to blow -- like in this situation when they're not getting it; ask her to look at her ticket and whose name is on the event 🤣 And then be relieved "holy crap i thought *I* was the one confused. Thanks for helping me clear that up - hey everyone I'M THE HEADLINER" and you could even go so far as to walk out and come back to introduce yourself. It's funny and it would maybe reset the vibe too and you'd definitely have the control again. The comedian version of "don't make me turn this car around"
nah nahnah, it was NOT YOUR EGO to TAKE UPFOR PAYING AUDIENCE MEMBERS. it was YOUR SHOW and THEIR MONEY you did the right thing. always take up for yourself, your craft, and your audience. you are amazing bro
a HUGE applause to YOU for how you handled that… you say you ‘lost your cool’ but you were so appropriate, direct, and still being respectful about it. why buy a ticket to come to a show to disrupt everyone around you INCLUDING the MAIN ACT. if she wanted to talk the whole time she should just stick to watching you on youtube

If that's you snapping, then I've got a lot of work to do and I've been in therapy for anger issues for 20+ years now. You're a saint Drew.
Everytime I watch your videos, I am in awe of the kind of things and the number of things you have to deal with, manage and face as a comic. You are so sharp and articulate in your explanation. Some people are just unbelieavable....😮💨
Okay, a non Dutch speaker here...
You've piqued my curiosity, what does your last line translate to please?
@@elenawilliams32 it means "you must be the funniest at home", which is usually said when somebody keeps saying shitty/dumb jokes
@@Nyxxeonn Thanks, much appreciated .
I hope Drew learns that phrase/saying if he ever has the pleasure of touring there again... With the misfortune of her being in the audience again. 😂
Drew, I really appreciate the way you break down this interaction. You definitely handled that lady much better than I could have even on my best day.
Well done!
I mean you did better than Bill Hicks xD
“Would you ssshhUUTT THE F*** UP”
You are brilliant at psychology Drew. You are great at reading the room and trying to deflect (is that the right word) and keep things cool and funny even in difficult situations. Show must go on.
Bravo👏👏
i have been a fan since your audition on agt in 2015 ish? i appreciate you man!
I appreciate Drew's candor at the end of the video about the situation. Also, the juxtaposition of his serious tone and the banana he's sitting on reaches an unintended perception of satire near montey python levels...
Thanks for being you, Drew. Keep up the great work!
You are fantastic at analyzing situations and navigating them in the moment. It speaks of your intelligence 👍
Blessings.
It may not have made for a good live show, but it made for a spectacular RUclips video!
🤣😂🤣
Support act was great by the way (I forgot his name, don't tell him 😅)
You handled that perfectly! And made everyone laugh while doing so! That's why you're my favorite comedian!
U were so diplomatic! If I was an audience member that might I'd probably have told her to sit down & stfu but I'm a New Yorker so that's how we roll
When someone is being EXTREMELY rude, I see no reason to be polite to them.
You handle it perfectly man.
You have the patience of an angel my guy. I would not have taken a stab at my girl as well as you did. Kudos.
Very well handled Drew, I would have completely lost it! :)
The way you were talking about “oh I snapped” I was expecting cursing, yelling, etc, you handled that really well
I think you handled that better than I would, I love that you have the crowd on your side, I found you through a search of how comedians handle hecklers (because I'm considering going and trying out for open mic night) and I watch various hecklers to see what I'm up against. I find you hilarious, and if you come to Orlando, I'll try to get tickets to see a show,
Bro, you handled her in such a calm manner. And in showing vulnerability the rest of the audience was totally sympathetic. And you gave us all some good laughs at her expense.
I genuinely said "sit the fuck down!" Out loud while watching this
You made her look like a fool! Beyond genius to come up with things on the spot it’s Incredible!
Na this was great too.
You were so unbelievably patient!
i don't see it like you snapped. the part that you introduced with "and that's when I snapped..." was the best remark imho! calm, not hurtful, on point with a fitting energy... a good joke!!! maybe it triggers feeling awkward or misplaced when you tap into that not often visited part of yours, at least I'm at times when I do.
Are most hecklers drunk/high? Brain-dead? What is the use of paying for a live performance only to upstage the performer?
A lack of understanding of social cues, it is difficult to read the room for some people, we have differing brain types.
For me as someone with an AuDHD brain type, I find it hard to read social cues given by people with Allistic/neurotypical brain types, yet NT brain types seem to find it difficult to read neurodivergent social cues.
We speak different non verbal languages, studies have shown communication between the same brain types is more efficient than between differing brain types.
Neither is wrong, it's just a funny quirk present in our speciation.
Drunk ignorant narcissists
Usually argumentative types who’ve never been told no before. Probably bullies at school and work
Hey, be gentle to yourself. You did a great job hanging in there and I love your self-reflection. We all can learn from our actions. I am so happy to see your journey and to see you doing so well! Keep going!
Man I need to see someone about my anger issues if this is you losing it, you are more calm in your angriest than me when I am asleep.
The bots are crazy
Dude I just saw it's insane how many there are
I know right, crazy!
Pron photos with chatgpt meets linkedin level questions.
I feel like every single comment on this video is a bot. Smooth brains.
I think you handled it well. You are incredibly gifted and the truth is, this day and age there are people who don't know how to act in public and some times they need the direction they didn't get throughout life. Keep doing what you do because we are loving it!
Drew, go watch steve Hofstetter for tips on how to deal with hecklers. He's very good at it.
I was just about to say this. Steve is really good at dealing with audience members that aren't respectful.
well played on the rain joke!
I’ve never seen so many bots in one place
I totally agree! Was looking for this comment!!!
You're encouraging her. I understand your idea of what you're doing, but the effect is encouragement.
I acknowledge the difficulty of this position.
I don’t understand why people talk during shows that they wanted to see
I think you handled it EXTREMELY well. Tons of respect. Yes, eveything can be a teachable moment but mostly for that girl who has an easy job when going to any show. Sit there, don't interrupt and enjoy. Pretty simple.
As a former alcoholic and loudmouth, WE DON’T HEAR HINTS. Be Direct or they Don’t Get it.
As a representative for everyone else, how about if you are an alcoholic, or a Dutch person, you can just stay home instead of burdening everyone with your existence
As someone who works in retail: Hints never work. Be direct, firm and everything will work out just fine for the most time.
@@99mage99 That was their point. If they don't stay home, then don't feel bad about doing what you have to do.
@MandrakeDCR No shit, Sherlock. That's why I very blunty and directly said what I said.
@@99mage99 Aw, got all upset did we? lol take a pill ff.
you did very well, handled it like a pro.
The comedian version of "don't make me turn this car around"
nah nahnah, it was NOT YOUR EGO to TAKE UPFOR PAYING AUDIENCE MEMBERS.
it was YOUR SHOW and THEIR MONEY
you did the right thing.
always take up for yourself, your craft, and your audience.
you are amazing bro
For anyone who didn't understand, he (1/94)

Wait how come the original comment was 1 minute ago, but he reply was 11 mins ago?!
a HUGE applause to YOU for how you handled that… you say you ‘lost your cool’ but you were so appropriate, direct, and still being respectful about it. why buy a ticket to come to a show to disrupt everyone around you INCLUDING the MAIN ACT. if she wanted to talk the whole time she should just stick to watching you on youtube
You lead her on. She felt like she was allowed to talk because of your response. This is different in every culture.
Is it acceptable in the Netherlands to interrupt a person speaking on stage? I don’t think that’s a cultural thing, but I’ve never been to the Netherlands before. 🙄
