Welcome to the Dream Hammock crowd! I like it, it's a lot like mine, very similar build. I think I remember someone else also telling you to go with he 0.67 bug net! Awesome to see you branching out and trying something new!
Love my Darian as well, Dream customer service is outstanding and exceeds expectations. These are really good people doing great things to make the camping and hiking experience the best it can be.
I got a Darien last hiking season. Amazing customer service! They were out of the color fabric I wanted so they sent me an email and let me know my order might take a bit longer. They even gave me updates on the status of the fabric along the way. +1 for Dream Hammock!
Was glad to hear your switch wasn’t cause you found an issue with the blackbird. I saw your video on the blackbird years ago and knew it was what I wanted - but life happened - and it wasn’t until last week that I finally put my order in for a blackbird.
Nope blackbird still is a great hammock! I wish they would have offered more fabric choices. At the end of the day a more custom hammock is going to win for me each time. I even reached out to warbonnet to see if they could use a 1.1 fabric instead of a 1.6
I got a Dangerbird from them about a month ago.....wasn't cheap but a real quality piece of kit.....Fully customized....They are a pleasure to deal with...
Your intro and exit graphics makes me giggle every time.I agree it is really nice to be able to customize the hammock it looks great and that's a good shade of blue looking forward to seeing it in use on the next hike thanks for sharing.
I got almost the identical hammock from Randy last year. Where yours is blue mine is lime green and an 11 footer as I am 6'1". Love it. Welcome to the family👍🏼
agreed, im about your size but the 1.0 and 1.1s were always to soft. my previous favorite was 1.7 but the 1.2 is a goldilocks perfect middle ground for me. I did go with the .5 netting. Only 15 nights in the woods but it appears to be going strong. Even has stood up to dogs nails trying to get into hammock with netting closed. it does snag on zippers much easier than other netting but it hasn't torn or anything so i am curious how it holds up in the long run. It is silky smooth and i like the way it stretches for an integrated hammock. Still not sure if i would have liked the .67 better. but it was just an experiment
Very nice hammock. The blue really stands out and looks sharp. Been in a Dutch hammock now for a couple of years. May be time for an upgrade if I can get it past my CFO. Take care, Al
Cool man! I'm excited to see you take it out. Never heard of the 0.67 bugnetting before. Really like the color scheme too. Whoopies slipped on me, so I started tying a half hitch at the end of my berry. Tying them off will really help from any potential slipping. Hope they work for you. I was surprised to see the dented toggle. Just be sure the whoopie is on the knot and not on the toggle. The knot can take the weight. Shugg has a great video on it. Sorry for the long comment. Hope you get some great nights in that new hammock!
Yup. "Onnn the knot and nottt the togggle" The issue with the dented toggle was that the material of the dyneema spider web 2.0 just doesn't have the surface area of normal webbing and it's hard to get a whoopie on that small knot.
Outdoor Adventures hahaha! That's the video! Yeah, what I use is the same knot, but I slide both sides of the knot together on the side of the toggle, which makes for a bigger knot. I'll try to take a picture of it tonight. But that seems to help me get a bigger knot to work with.
Thank you. I'm not happy with the Sony lav mic that I'm using but haven't found anything better. The Sony moves around a lot. Wish the the clip was twice as long.
Thanks for the video!..looking into hammocks after completing the Ga section of the AT this week and getting dumped on..every one of us was envious of the hammock guys in camp after heavy downpours lol
Thanks for sharing. I love my Blackbird XLC, but am looking to shed some ounces and am considering this or Dutch’s Chameleon. Leaning towards his, but this looks great too. Love the customization choices. Looking forward to a full review once you break it in after a while.
Nice. Soon I'm going Raven though for two reasons: 1) According to website the bug net is fully removable 2) It's my first hammock purchase, I don't know if I'm a "head left" or "head right" person. Raven isn't asym. But after a year or more with Raven, my second hammock will either be Darien or WBBB XLC.
Looks great!! The black sure looks good and you already know that I went with the blue. Randy was great to work with and I had him make me a 10 1/2 hammock since I'm a little taller at 5' 11". With the little heavier fabric you should get less stretch. Enjoy your trip! Maybe next time we can do something since we can't meet this weekend. I've been kicking the idea for a late summer trip maybe somewhere in Ohio.
Love the look of that Darien....I think I would prefer it over the Raven (with removable bug net) that I have.....the zippers on the Raven are not sewn high enough up the sides and it comes unzipped on me often when getting in and out. Have a great trip this weekend!
Hey Frozen, Just checking in about the difference between the Dream and Warbonnet Hammocks. Is laying flat easier in the WB due to the toe box? Or are they the same if you order a wider one? Thanks, Love the videos, keep em coming!!
Visiting Gary? Everything else is covered with snow I think. I tried and didn't like my whoppies, traded them in for a Dutch Beatle buckle system and prefer that for sure.
If you haven't yet try out the Beatles. I have them setup so I don't need anything more than strap around the tree though the strap's loop, and beatle to the continuous loop. Super easy to adjust and setup especially when it's colder.
Nice review.....Great hammock! I'm debating between the Darien and Sparrow, but black and orange. I'm leaning toward the Darien for weight. Did you keep the #3 zipper? And, how do you like it? I was thinking of seeing if I could upgrade to the #5, if that's possible.
Great videos keep them coming!! Can you tell me your reason for not buying the Sparrow or any of the other options? I’m in the market for a new one and just can not decide.
Thanks for watching! I chose the darien model for it's simplicity. I don't need a removable bugnet ever. Top covers do not interest me because they create unneeded condensation in cold temperatures. I have a tarp with doors so if I wanted to stop the wind I'd just lower the tarp and shut the doors. The Darien model is the lightest model with a bugnet and it's considerably cheaper than the sparrow.
Awesome, that is what I was thinking. I currently have the Blackbird XLC and have not found a need to remove the nugget either. Can’t wait to hear how you like it in regards to comfort. That’s my main interest and if it’s enough to shelf my WBXLC. Which I love!!
Care to comment on EE underquilts vs Hammock gear? I notice the dimensions are a little bit different. I'm curious if you prefer one over the other and why?
April 3rd 9pm. I'll be posting the live QA dates in the community tab. You can get alerted by clicking the bell notification on any of my videos and it will send you a notification about new videos and live streams and the occasional channel posts.
You may want to explore 1" Venom UHMWPE Ultralight Tree Straps at RipStopByTheRoll. Just under 2 oz. for a pair of 12' straps. A simple Becket hitch to the continuous loop and you're set. Feedback on HammockForums.net has been positive. I was just getting ready to buy Dutch's titanium cinch buckle set but bailed on that idea when I saw these. I think that's my new suspension.
Nothing wrong with the chaneleoon, but the lightest one you can get is in hexon 1.0 and it's still 20oz. It's also 11' which is too long for me. All those accessories dutchware sells for it doesn't really appeal to me and I'll never zip the bugnet off. I'd just use a hammock without a bugnet in the winter. Not a modular hammock type of guy.
Outdoor Adventures fair enough. The hexon 1.0 is actually around 16oz. I got my wife one. Mine is 1.6 like your darien but camo. Mines actually around 22oz with the symmetrical bugnet, pillow, and side pocket.
I love my Darien. I’ve had it for two years and I wouldn’t change a thing. Have great time testing it out, cheers!
Welcome to the Dream Hammock crowd! I like it, it's a lot like mine, very similar build. I think I remember someone else also telling you to go with he 0.67 bug net! Awesome to see you branching out and trying something new!
I love, love, love my Darien. Love.
I like how they finish the ends of the hammock and how the suspension exits, very symmetrical.
Yeah, that's the one I used on my AT attempt and have been using for almost a year. I freaking love it.
Great breakdown as always!!! Nothing wrong with change:-) I am digging the blue stitching.
Love my Darian as well, Dream customer service is outstanding and exceeds expectations. These are really good people doing great things to make the camping and hiking experience the best it can be.

They were great to work with!
Can’t go wrong with a Dream Hammock. I’ve had mine for almost 2 years. I love it.

I also got green accents. Was a close tie between the two.
I also have a Darien for my 3 season trips. Great choice!
you will love the 1.2! Made mine as soon as it came out and to me it is a miracle hammock fabric
Yea sometimes the 1.1 in the blackbird was just a little too soft. I think I might sleep better with something firmer.
agreed, im about your size but the 1.0 and 1.1s were always to soft. my previous favorite was 1.7 but the 1.2 is a goldilocks perfect middle ground for me. I did go with the .5 netting. Been Rockin a Darien for a few years now. Good choice. I have a Dangerbird as well, great hammocks and great people! Nice job!
That's nice you are able to costum make your own. Good video!

One more: just got my buckle suspension a day ago! Can't wait to test it out.
Man, the audio in this is on point. Lav for the win.
Thank you. I'm not happy with the Sony lav mic that I'm using but haven't found anything better. The Sony moves around a lot. Wish the the clip was twice as long.
Good looking hammock. Can't wait to see it out on a hike.
Thanks for the video!..looking into hammocks after completing the Ga section of the AT this week and getting dumped on..every one of us was envious of the hammock guys in camp after heavy downpours lol
I laugh at my hiking buddy Gary all the time in the rain. Much more relaxed
Thanks for sharing. I love my Blackbird XLC, but am looking to shed some ounces and am considering this or Dutch’s Chameleon. Leaning towards his, but this looks great too. Love the customization choices. Looking forward to a full review once you break it in after a while.
Most definitely!
Great looking hammock- still have yet to get my first DH.
I’ll have to check out the dream hammock. Thanks for sharing.
Nice. Soon I'm going Raven though for two reasons:
1) According to website the bug net is fully removable

Oh, and Randy has been great as far as customer service!
Yea Randy is amazing!
I love my Darien. Great company to deal with as you stated.
SWEET VID!!! I AM LOOKING TO GO FROM TENT TO HAMMOCK THIS YEAR!!! THANX
Looks great!! The black sure looks good and you already know that I went with the blue. Randy was great to work with and I had him make me a 10 1/2 hammock since I'm a little taller at 5' 11". Good to know. I tried to go for the lightest I could get. We'll see how the 1.2 fabric works out.
Have you done any of the Mid State Trail? Pine Creek Outfitters was telling me that there is a really nice section that is 62 miles long.
I have not. Let.me.know if you decide to do it. Maybe I'll join you
That's sweet! Dream hammock is the way to go!
YEAHHHH new trip video!
Looks nice. You should look into getting the coolest hammock out there: Dutchware Chameleon. It's all the rage with all those whippersnappers.
Hey Frozen, Just checking in about the difference between the Dream and Warbonnet Hammocks. Is laying flat easier in the WB due to the toe box? Or are they the same if you order a wider one? Thanks, Love the videos, keep em coming!!
Have fun on the hike, didn't you guys just get a bunch of snow in pa?
Yea a little over a foot here. Going to be gone by the time I head out though.
Welcome to the #dreamhammockcrew. 🙌🙌
Visiting Gary? Everything else is covered with snow I think. I tried and didn't like my whoppies, traded them in for a Dutch Beatle buckle system and prefer that for sure.
Hopping the toggles work. If not the hammock goes up a few ounces. I may ultimately switch just simply for simplicity.
If you haven't yet try out the Beatles. I have them setup so I don't need anything more than strap around the tree though the strap's loop, and beatle to the continuous loop. Super easy to adjust and setup especially when it's colder.

Hey Ed, Yea, we can do the #5 zipper on the Darien if you like.
Dream Hammock LLC , thanks for your reply. I'm just trying to narrow down my choice.
Great videos keep them coming!! Can you tell me your reason for not buying the Sparrow or any of the other options? I’m in the market for a new one and just can not decide.

Did you ever make a video on making a continuous ridge line? Want to put one on mine but not sure how to go about it.
I completely forgot about this. I've just been using Dutchwares CRL works great.
Care to comment on EE underquilts vs Hammock gear? I notice the dimensions are a little bit different. I'm curious if you prefer one over the other and why?
I really like the design of the HG pheonix as far as baffles go with EE it's a quilted pattern and it's hard to migrate down.
Live Q&A soon?

Yeah I need one
Does the weight of 1 oung with whooipes include the tree huggers?
What part of the video are you referring to? Can you put in the time of the video?
5:38
The weight on the scale is with the full kit. So huggers, toggles, hammock, ridgeline organizer, double ended stuff sack, and whoopies.
Cool. Thanks. I have a WBBB 1.1D. Thinking of trying some new too...but already have a wookie...
does this come with the ridgline
Yes if you chose that option.
What was the overall price?
Around $160 before the suspension.
Nothing against dream hammock, but why not get the dutchware chameleon?
16s not too bad. That's with whoopies and straps? I've never heard anyone say they don't like their chameleon.
About what did it cost
Without the suspension it was 160
Thanks so much
Laurel Highlands Trail??? Lol
