Pwllheli Carnival (1925) - extract

A happy summer's day procession in Pwllheli, North Wales, with floats (including a laundry van with a tableau of washing day), characters in fancy dress (including an unsuccessful attempt at a leek and a Pierrot with a cat's face leading a piebald pony), scouts and a brass band, accompanied by excited gaggles of small boys. The main sequence is shot from the upstairs window of the Whitehall Hotel, where the procession turns down Gaol Street for the Square.

A wonderful piece of film history all those dear souls,there may may be a few of the little ones still alive they will be in their mid to late 90's. I loved the leek the highlight of the parade the reaction in the crowd was just wonderful.

Very interesting to see how the demography of ones home country has changed (for the worse, I think) over the decades. The one thing that really hits me most when watching these old films is that most, if not all, of the 'cast' are now dead. Sort of reinforces the fact of mortality !

A grand parade for sure back 1925...but exactly what are all these people excited about? Laundry day??

Delightful - the walking leek sure got a laugh! I wonder if any of these folk are still alive. Some of the very small children, maybe.
