I love those cardboard cutout trees and the overall art style. I hope this really takes off even more. There needs to be more of us solo devs out here. AAA games are getting out of hand 😮💨.
haha thanks! I sure hope more people see my project (obviously) :)
@@WhyKev No problem. I'm subscribed. More will eventually. You just got to stay consistent until that one vid hits, you'll be good. Hopefully we both see each other at the top one day.
I just love this game
Thank you so much Kyle! You know you and your game is an inspiration!
It really does! :)
kyle :O
ohhh man I can't tell you how inspiring it is to see how you had a desire to explore a concept, and just went for it and took that leap of faith and it's like the path is just manifesting in front of you. I've been holding back for years now making an adventure platformer I passionately feel that I have to make, because year after year I've felt like i'm not ready, having spent the last decade working on Operation: Black Mesa and of course working full time so game design has always just been a spare time hobby. I am going to search deep within myself to see how I can make it happen, because seeing you take those initial steps and fully realize a beautiful colorful 3d platformer world is just a dream come true. keep it up brother!
"trust the process" man I felt that. looking forward to the next dev log!
Glad to know it resonated with someone :) I'm excited for the next one as well!
Ayeee he's back! This was a great recap man. Thank you for sharing us the journey so far, can't wait to see more Paper Clay!
I'm back! :D Thank you so much friend. I can't wait to share more of what I've got in my head!
Been following your progress for a while on Twitter. Congrats Kevin. All the best to reach the finish line with your sanity intact.
haha thank you! I'll do my best to keep my sanity on a healthy level (at most times)
i really needed that this video is giving me a lot of motivation to start working on my games again, thanks bro and i love your game btw
Hey that makes me very happy to hear! Best of luck!!
Wow, what an amazing journey you've been on! Congratulations on all the progress you've made in the last year. Keep up the great work!
I really appreciate that! Thanks :)
Yoo this is amazing!!! Love the art style and inspiration from banjo and kazooie with the characters
Appreciate it! :D haha yeah a friend is constantly pushing towards Banjo & Kazooie if I have questions.
Subscribed :D I love the info you gave and the experience of something blowing up. Im a new dev and need to learn as much as i can about getting seen. Looking forward to more!
I appreciate that! Hope I have more to share that people can learn from :)
i loved it!, i just realize i've been following you on twitter for a while before knowing you had youtube channel
Thank you FBI for keeping an eye on the youtube channel now :D
Amazing progress! I can't wait to see what the future holds with PaperKlay!
Thanks Jacob! :D
It's awesome seeing you include the player base early on to test the feel of the game! Nice work so far
Thank you so much! Yeah I think it's important to not spend years on something that people would turn off after 20 minutes :D
Can't believe it's been a whole year already! :D I still love how cute and charming the art style is, I really can't wait to see how the game progresses and see how far, you and it go! But remember, you come first, you need a break, you take it
Time really flies! I really appreciate the kind words Saul! I will make sure my health comes first
Great work, Kev!
Thanks a ton friend!
Well, that's a game added straight to my wishlist! Keep on going my guy
Thanks a ton Paul! Appreciate it!
It has been a long journey and I cant wait for the launch, seeing the whole process is just amazing
Thank you! I will do my best to finish it :D
The game looks fun and solid the art fits so well with the environment. Great video keep them coming
Appreciate it! I'm having a lot of fun and my confidence with 3D art is growing!
It looks incredible!
Thank you Julien :)
Absolutely love it, year 2 let's go..!!! 😍😍😍
I'm so excited for Year 2!
Can't wait for the release!
Same
Super cute. The demo is good, I'm looking forward to the full version and I'll buy it.
I really really appreciate that! Very motivating :)
Very noice game, would love to see more devlogs
Thank you! Yeah I plan to have more along the ride :) Working on one now actually.
This is beautiful.
After watching like so many indie dev logs and following them and then seeing them fail- I've just been getting this strong intuition on whether or not a game/dev will succeed or just completely fail. There's no metric to this intuition. It's just a feeling.
Long story short: you will succeed. I just feel it. The game is fresh and creative - with a fun art style. That plus your focus on mental health and fun first-
Yeah. You're going to succeed.
Bob that really means a lot, I'm glad that I'm at a point where I have a great life/work balance with this game. I hope I can live up to all expectations :)
1 Year down! amazing progress dude!
Thanks man! Appreciate all the support from you!
Wow, congrats man! You managed to do a lot in a year time... All by yourself and not even going fulltime on the project. I'm impressed!!
I really love the style and feel of the game. I created my own (very small ^^') indie studio with a friend. And we are about to realese our first game. It's a collecthaton with a tiny companion on your back haha. I can tell we got inspired by the same games. So... I'm really vibing with you on that one ! Keep up the great work. I'm definitely adding this to my whishlist and keeping an eye on it !
Thank you so much for that, I sometimes forget to realise that a lot of progress have been made! I wish you guys the best of luck! :)
GREAT progress especially for a solo dev! The visual style is unique and impressive as well! One note; a Banjo-like duo is quirky because of the odd match. Band K are a Bear and Ambiguous Bird, Uke and Lele are a bat and chameleon. Yours is a chicken and a baby chick.....I would make the chick a chipmunk or a frog or something else random. Makes more sense by not making sense. Also in those duos, each had their own strengths and weaknesses and ways to work with the other. There isn't much room for that dynamic with how you have it. I would save the chick model for use elsewhere (like a cutscene or something) and get started on a different sidekick. Keep up the work!
First of all, thank you so much! And second, yeah that's something I didn't really think about. Will have to dig down and see how I will move forward on this part. Thanks for bringing it up!
@@WhyKev You have gotten further and have more to show for it than most other solo devs! Be proud and don't see it as a set back. Also, you should ask those publishers if they can arrange funding or assist with dev recruitment etc if you were to make a deal with them. Obviously negotiate on your terms to maintain control but it is better to find out than saying no outright. You have more than enough proof of concept.
@@ElderSilverFox Yeah you're right! :D Thanks again!
Cool so good! Great work! I love those cardboard deisgn, it give me so much LittelBigPlanet vibe and I love it.
Have allways wish there was more games like them, so I am so glad to see that you are makeing one. Cant wait to try it out!
Thank you so much! I'm looking a fair bit at LittleBigPlanet. Amazing visuals :D
Appreciate the comment :)
Good work kev
Thanks Robin :)
Great video update! Year 1 complete… year 2 unlocked!
Full steam ahead with year 2!
I love the art how the game looks
Thanks a lot Ducky!
The game looks so goood! hoping to get my game to this level one day! great inspiration for other indie-Devs
Hey thank you so much for that! That really makes me happy to hear! :)
1 person, as a side project, in just a year....?
That's crazy 😆
Looks amazing, I wishlisted. Good luck with this 😀
Hey thanks a ton! Yeah I think I sometimes might be too hard on myself. I'm so excited for year 2, it's going well so far!
😃 wow great to see an update
Thanks :D
Usually 3d platformers are not my types of games - but your art style is just amazing.
You have +1 in your wishlist. I hope it'll be 100% SteamDeck-compatible (and it might add some additional sales as well).
Concept art is also just AMAZING. Can we have something like this as a desktop background pls?
Wish you the best of luck - you are doing great and you I believe you will succeed!
Hey thank you so much for that! I really want to make sure it's SteamDeck compatible. I'll see what I can do with the concepts :)
Nice use of the Hoplegs music
haha you're probably the only one that noticed! I need to use my music so it doesn't get claimed :D
love the art style, ive always wanted to make a 3d platformer game, whats some advice you could give to someone thats decent at graphics/art style but not scripting at all.
I really liked your note about not working through your mental health and that you need to relax and pay the bills and stuff. Couldn't be truer. I can't find that balance right now.
I'm sorry you're going through it right now, it goes up and down for me. Right now I'm entering a phase where I'm doing a lot of freelance work to balance it out, make me more relaxed in the long run.
I was just thinking about this game a couple of weeks ago
Well here it is :D Glad to hear people think about it from time to time
Think i've seen Vimlark play this on twitch! gj!
That's right, he played it at some point :) Glad you found this video.
Nice
Thanks :)
Art style reminds me of little big planet a bit and i love it
It's a big inspiration for sure! They've done amazing things when it comes to build a world you want to spend time in.
How did you pull this environment omg it looks so professional
Oh wow thank you! I feel like normal maps does help a lot
Big game incoming
Let's hope so!
Looks great, like to play it on the Atari VCS.
Thank you! Maybe in the future, it's not my first priority though when it comes to other platforms.
This is awesome man! How did you go about learning game dev?
Thanks! I studied game development back in 2009 when I was 16 and just never stopped :)
@@WhyKev that’s awesome! I just recently started making my own character for my own 3D Platformer and I’m trying to learn as much as I can!!
@@lanefaulhaber875 Amazing! I wish you the best of luck with your journey!
@@WhyKev thank you so much!
how many wishlists do you have?
what light asset did you use in the controll test?
I don't remember, I probably had the default with some post processing and then some basic fog enabled.
Wait a minute... ive seen you on Twitter!
There's a big risk. I post a lot :D
Chick N' Nugget ... I love it
Haha I know right?
Chknnuggit is a channel name
awesome job, can you please make a playable demo for linux
I can see what I could do in the future for next demo!
Hey mate, I'm making a 3d platformer game as well, I like how my charcater moves, but I'm really struggling to make any levels. Like, I don't know where to start making the level. I have some ideas, but I can't go farther with them.
It's a head problem not skill.
I'd look up Game Makers Tool Kit where they go through level design on Mario 3D Worlds. It's quite interesting and might help you on the way. Sure it's linear levels and might not be what you're into but in this case it could be what you need to get going. Or is it visuals? Look at other games and see if you can be inspired, your result will probably not look like their in the end anyway. Best of luck!
@@WhyKevthanks. It's the structure of the level itself, like, placement of platforms and stuff like that.
I'll look into gmtk
Know I know it reminds me of "Chicken Little", would you open a very small discord with max 100 people where we co develope?
I'm not looking to expand the team, sorry
Looks great, im just disapointed its not actually called "Chick 'n' Nugget".
haha I know, missed opportunity!
I thought that guy was Chicken Little.
Could be.
