After shagging and a conventional cigarette afterwards, though they do casually skin up joints throughout the series which then was unusual, without comment or a plot point.
They didn't have sex. That wasn't a post coital cigarette it was a post cleaning cigarette which was the gag. Look at the video again paying attention to the tidiness of the room before and after.@@grahambuckerfield4640
The "artist" in basement, Mark Heap, is hilarious in David Mitchell's series "UPSTART CROW" with Mitchell as a neurotic Shakespeare...and Heap as his Nemesis, Lord Green (A failed playwright) 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂ITS A GOOD ONE!!!!
I can't wait for you to get to the nightclub episode. Tires is a legend.. The paperboy, you have seen in various things was also in the move "Ali G in da house" he played one of Ali's friends, but was mute for the entire movie, he just responded in grunts
The Paper Boy/After Life etc guy was also in Black Books as the Cinema ticket guy and at the tills in the fast food place Bernard works in for however long it was.
Paper boy, Tony Way, was also in Black Books. “I see it as a reference to Christo, the artist”. “Really? I see it as a waste of Baco, the foil”… Christo was a 60s pop artist, famous/notorious for wrapping huge things like the German Reichstag and miles of Australian coastline! 🤔 Bacofoil is a UK brand of oven foil equivalent to Reynolds Wrap.
Holy Moley. I have lots of social media US friends that I've never met, but I'm in communication with most of them. I think you're definitely my all time fave social media US friend that I've not!
In case you don’t know, the show’s Mike (fantastic name) is in the TA, which is the UK’s Territorial Army, roughly the equivalent of the US National Guard.
When Tim was fashioning the Mash Potato it was from "Close Encounters of the Third kind" and so was the last scene when they ascend the stairs. BTW: They get much better.
Great Series with lots of references. Invasion of the body snatchers, pulp fiction and Close encounters of the third kind feature in this episode. The next episode is the inspiration for Shaun of the dead. Simon was a massive George A. Romero fan and loves Night of the living dead. Such a fan, he even fanboys his way into Land of the dead, playing a Zombie.
Keep an eye out for all the movie references. The mountain out of mash potatoes for example was a reference to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. There are loads more to come.
This episode does indeed flag somewhat compared to the first, but it was all about awkwardness so maybe that's kind of how it was meant to feel. But yes, it does get better again after this.
The series is riddled with movie references so you need to shout out the name anytime you notice one :) There was a DVD version i had where the subtitles were just the movie names showing for each reference.
If you can get hold of this on dvd, it has a homage-ometer, where it explains every reference as it happens. There's also one on the dvd of each of the Cornetto trilogy.
The scene with the fridge (called Kal 900) was from 'A Space Odyssey' during which the ships computer (HAL 900) became 'self aware'. Interesting fact, they got the name HAL from IBM which was a pioneering computer company (letters are shifted down one, I becomes H and so on).
If you had the dvd version the extra subtitles show every time they are referring to something and show what it's referring to. Also one of the girls who comes in with Mike is Simon Pegs sister.
The 'Paperboy' yes brilliant in 'Afterlife', also the 'Ali G' movie & one the key stars in 'Mongrels' 😉 Think there's an outro to most the episode, you may have missed it or it went in the cut....
There's a funny story Nick Frost tells where in this show he needed to be able to disassemble and reassemble a gun blindfolded so he took the prop home to practice. He was wearing headphones so he could focus on the feel of the gun as he tore it down and built it back up and when he took off the blindfold he was surrounded by armed police. Someone had seen him taking the gune in to his house and reported him. The way he tells it, the police told him if he had moved they were going to shoot him
Nick used to do a hilarious series before spaced, called Danger 50000 volts / Danger incoming attack. was like a satire survival tips series. Should be a few episodes on youtube although quality lacks a bit 360p probably your best lol
I used to love Spaced - it reminded me of my time living in London in the 90s, working out what I was going to do with my life... it's still good, but a little dated :)
More watch suggestions- The League Of Gentlemen (not rhe movie). Truly one of the greatest comedies produced. And after that, the massivly popular 'Inside number 9'
@@JamesLMason me and wife went to cinema to watch the movie and still enjoyed it. Psychoville is on our rewatch list soon, I still remember loving his clown and the mother and son is so freaky lol
@@straightouttacornwall He definately would. I think it's one of the best comedies ever produced. My wife and I were obsessed with it for so long. So much so that if you look carefully at our wedding video, you can see me lean over as we were signing the registry and whisper 'your my wife now' 🤣
@@N_Loco_Parenthesis Utter bollocks - apart from the fact that it had 3 guys & 3 women it was NOTHING like Friends. Spoken like someone who went into it with a bias - the writing's incredibly well done.
Great episode, but probably the weakest of the whole series. Really ramps up a gear in the next episode, and you'll see where the seed for Shaun of the Dead was sown. Also, the "I see it as a waste of Baco, the foil" gets me every damn time.
The cuts are ruining it. Some great jokes, including the music that comes in when Brian saves Tim and Daisy's bacon when he takes the coat into the bedroom. Cuts make the episode disjointed.
This is definitely one of the weaker eps of the show, but as you say they all have them. But everytime I notice you finding something funny, I'm more convinced that you'll love Brassic if you react to that!

"Did they just smoke weed or did they f*** too?"
No, they just cleaned the living room.
After shagging and a conventional cigarette afterwards, though they do casually skin up joints throughout the series which then was unusual, without comment or a plot point.
@@grahambuckerfield4640 There was no shagging. They cleaned the flat, had a fag and then cleaned the teapot.

Not even remotely similar, either in qualitative or quantitative terms.

Superb writing, one of the funniest comedies ever. Wait till you see the episode when they go clubbing.
It's the paintball episode for me.
Yeah, the clubbing episode is right up there alongside the musical episode of I.T Crowd. Perfection
@@jhpfdijtuiweruot yes it perfectly captured the feeling of raving/clubbing in the nineties.
5:40 No, the joke is that they cleaned the room, hence the fact the place is completely clear and tidy, vacuum cleaner in shot etc.
