  • Saturday September 26 2015 at 7.49. An excursion train (the 6.34 Skegness to Whitby 13.21) pulling into Sleaford Station and the 6.41 Nottingham to Skegness (8.56) train pulling out of it. The first regular train from Skegness was still 30 minutes away. Unusually for Network/British Rail the crossings in Sleaford are logically named East, West and North. They didn't quite think it through however as the road here is named South Gate. In 2011 Network Rail foolishly suggested closing this crossing and having a footbridge instead as if there was any chance that anyone would agree. 4 trains an hour use this crossing and they claimed it is "one of the most dangerous in the country". The crossing is supervised from a signal box out of view on the right and the reality is that the chance of being hit by the slow moving trains here is virtually zero. 462 people use the station each day on average.

Looks like that traffic light on the right is blocking the crossing light behind it

Did you make a mistake and go in the wrong lane or did you just get a better shot?

+Nathan A RF No. While waiting I realised that if I rushed back to Sleaford West LC I could probably film the excursion train again.
