I feel like this vid misses a lot of the marks. The fans booing honestly dont represent a lot of the Yankee fans, but at the same time the expectations are rightfully high for players to perform at least decently, if not superb. Even with things like the “we want Soto” chant i personally felt like it was more of a chant for Soto appreciation than an attack on Grisham (although with his bad batting average I can understand why that may not be so)
I’ve never booed any player because I just dont think it’s a nice thing to do, but I’d say there’s a lot more to consider about the fanbase than just “they’re disrespectful fans and need to stop”.

As a Yankee fan myself, I fully support the booing. No matter the circumstance, if you are not coming through to help your team win, then you are not at a satisfactory level and we need to let you know that. You don’t win a WS championship by cheering that they’re doing great when they have less than .200 average, that just says that the skill level doesn’t matter. The skill level does matter, and we want a team with good players. If you’re not playing well, you get booed.
Also, I was at the “We want Soto!” game and I stand by the cheering. A player with a .090 average was up in replacement of a player with an average of .300, with two outs, and a runner in scoring position, and you expect me not to ask for the .300 who’s only out due to inflammation? Then Grisham hits a home run, and this just tells me that Grisham heard the chants, and decided that he wanted to prove to the fans he was good enough as well. Grisham had done nothing the rest of the series when he wasn’t being booed, clearly being told he wasn’t doing good, and being asked to be replaced gave him the motivation he needed to hit that home run.

I get where you’re coming from. Me personally I wouldn’t ‘boo’ but that chant I understand. It was a perfect spot for Soto who according to Boone could’ve played they just decided to be cautious. If I remember correctly I turned to my gf and said to her if they do decide to put in Soto it would be in this exact spot. Also going from Soto to Grisham the contrast in batting average is so glaring that you honestly expected him to strike out (he’s been horrendous offensively). So if chanting is what it took for him to finally do something for the team then so be it 😂

As a Yankee fan, I wholeheartedly approve of anyone trashing the fans who boo players because they aren't getting good results.
Booing a player because his numbers are bad doesn't accomplish a thing. It could either have no effect or it could make the player get in their head and end up playing worse.
The only time players should be getting booed is when they aren't making an effort or they're an asshole. Then boo all you want. Joey Gallo deserved to get booed. He wouldn't make the effort to change his approach. Aaron Hicks deserved the boos. He would take plays off and just seemed to play lazy baseball.
Stanton had bad numbers, but not bad effort. As evidence look at how he transformed his body coming into the 2024 season. He worked his ass off to get better.
Aaron Judge. What can I say. I will start with, if you are a Yankee fan and booed Judge. Please find another team to root for. You don't deserve to watch him do the insane things he can do. He is the best hitter in baseball and it isn't particularly close. He gives max effort all the time. He hustles to track down plays in the field. He hustles out of the box and is actually a very good baserunner, if not all that fast. He always says the right thing. Always chats up the fans and treats them well. As good a teammate as their is in the game. Seriously you unbelievable idiots... What the HELL are you booing him for? A bad 20 game stretch?
Sometimes I'm embarrassed to be associated with many of my fellow Yankee fans.

I boo in Seattle because it’s a fan base that has accepted losing for too long. The fans at the stadium seem ready to accept any and all “feel good” stories of players.
I push back by booing, if the organization doesn’t like it then build a better team.

I have conflicting feelings about this. Firstly, I think it needs to be said that not all "boos" mean the same thing. Fans in North East cities wear their hearts on their sleeves and a "boo" (i.e., "Bronx Cheer" in Yankee parlance) can be a sign of respect for an opponent, or just an expression of disappointment about a situation and not necessarily directed at a player (although sometimes it's that too). Fans don't come to the ballpark to sit on their hands; it's to have fun and be part of an experience. Also, this isn't Little League where athletes should be expected to be treated as children. Cheers and boos should be viewed as an in-the-moment sentiment meter, not a referendum on one's self-worth or taken personally. Any adult athlete who is seriously bothered by it needs to "Lighten up, Francis" (*Stripes) and/or use it as motivation. On the other hand, it should also be noted that it's only a (lesser) percentage of fans that seem to be heard so loudly and that, overall, sports figures here are probably more honored and revered than they are anywhere else. it's all part of the social contract that exists between our professional athletes and rabid fanbases.

I was at the game and witnessed the “we want Soto” fiasco in-person. 90+% of the Yankees fans there were appalled by it, and truly the chant came from one specific corner of the stadium (to my eye/ear it was the folks in the section right next to the bleacher creatures, and maybe some of them participated too). That 3 run homer was an EXCELLENT clap back, especially considering the fact it landed right where the chants originated from 😂😂😂 I’m proud to say those assholes put their tail between their legs and chanted “we want Grisham” the next time he went up to bat.

  • @kieancoba7661

Your example is they booed judge cause he was off to a notoriously slow start worst stretch of baseball of his life. They expected more gave him contract of someone who plays better. He acknowledged the boos then proceeds in playing the best baseball of his career. Same exact thing can be applied to rodon. Players know what they’re getting into when signing to play for the Yankees. Just don’t sign up to play in the Bronx then. I personally wouldn’t boo someone like Trent or ask for another player that’s disrespectful. But these are professional athletes, and the dog in them usually comes out when facing diversity and accountability from fans which is always cool to see. If they fold under the pressure they’re simply not built to play in NY. NYC isn’t for everybody. I.e Sonny gray amazing pitcher outside of the Bronx or even the Midwest transplant that moves to the city but is scared to get on the subway. I personally fully agree with booing Stanton after paying him so much and him underperforming and rodon in his first season and judge after a month of really bad ball.

40 pennants and 27 world championships require rabid fans.
The Yankees have GOT to play well.
I disagree with your assessment that the bullpen this year has been good. They have not been. They have on quite a few occasions nearly lost games for the yanks. If there is a weakness in this team, it is the bullpen and players who swing at balls far far outside the strike zone.
If they clear those two things up, they will win another world championship.

If you can’t handle that’s on you, and many players with enough class will choose to sign with us.

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson 5 месяцев назад

That's because the assholes booing aren't the majority. Most of us don't boo our own guys. We show love. And continue to show love well after they're retired. Even if it weren't an asshole thing to do, it would shot I'll be stupid and counterproductive. There is a zero percent chance that booing a baseball player, who is not lacking in effort, will help them improve. The sport just doesn't work that way. So all the booing can accomplish is either nothing at all or it can get the player in their head and pressing, which leads to them getting worse.
When Aaron Judge was batting .189 he didn't need you to boo him in order to let him know it wasn't good enough. I tell you with total certainty that there is not a human being who felt more upset about Judges first 20 or so games than Judge himself. Your boos did nothing whatsoever outside of potentially pushing Judge to a point where he won't want to engage with fans anymore.
Stop hurting out or team with this idiocy.

I thought it was bad enough when fans started booing the opposing team for no reason (like for pick-off moves to first). Or random dudes yelling unintelligible things at the top of their lungs. I don't remember that nonsense happening when I was a kid. But now booing your own team? Really? Maybe it's narcissism taken to its extreme. You just have to let everyone around you know what you're feeling. You can't not express your displeasure. That would require self-control, awareness of those around you, and some measure of emotional regulation.

The reason we boo is because we want to cheer. Yeah, it’s harsh, but when you put on those pinstripes you’re standing on the shoulders of the giants that came before you. You’re standing on a tradition of champions. Yes, we expect a lot and some can’t handle the pressure. Those that can are a different breed. Jeter even said as much to President Bush after 9/11; “pitch from the mound and don’t bounce it. They’ll boo you if you bounce it.”

I do not know if it´s a true story or not. But, I once read that Albert Einstein started counting from 1 to 100 in front of a classroom and when he got to 98 he missed 99 and finished with 100. A student called him out and said: Hey professor, you missed 99. Albert Einstein replied, Yes I know, but you didn´t take into account that out of 100 I only missed once, and that I was right 99 out of 100? There is your answer about human ego and judgement and hipocrisy!
