Where the hell has this song been all my life??? I JUST discovered it today - thank you Spotify. Wow...this has so much depth - what an absolute treasure. So glad I discovered this. I’m in deep.
I fucking loved this song when I was, ooh, 15? I remember going to see the pixies live around the same time, still the best gig i've ever experienced. The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays were out. Acid house. We had everything and didn't even know it!
Discovered this after watching 'Upside Down' documentary about Creation Records. Discovering this, The Loft and Ride have made my musical world a much better place.
Another fantastic band that never quite made it - the combination of Terry Bickers's speed guitar work and pedal changes with Guy Chadwicke's swooping vocals...them's were the days, I'm tellin ye' boys!
@Eddie Willers reading the autobiography of band label Alan McGee - it appears this band never made it due to the drug consumption of various band members - Guy especially !
this was used very briefly on a Stone Roses tv program back in the late 80s, Rapido i think it was called - anyway i remember searching every last b-side, remix and song of the Roses to find out what it was, and finally today i find out it wasnt their song at all. Great tune, and the Roses were fucking great aswell.
love this song so much. can't believe they're coming to Peru in March. makes me remember so many many things. keep on visiting us please!!! we need good music around here!!! somebody said depeche mode????
I've been looking for this song for years. It's one of those songs you love the first time you hear it and simply can't get enough. Thanks for posting this.
You'd have loved me back then--LMAO! My senior yearbook photos featured my chili bowl haircut. I'm currently growing my hair out long for my GF, and as it gets to target, it's reminding me of those days.
You need to be pretty for a bowl haircut, as they emphasise and slightly soften yr face. There's a group of ageing mods who meet at a petrol station I go to, many still with their teenage Weller haircuts. The ones whose hair still frames their face look horrific cos the faces in question are creased and simian. It's like a monkey in a dress or a gorilla with a wig and I wish someone would have a word.
From Wikipedia: "Chadwick had been inspired to start a new band by having recently seen The Jesus and Mary Chain playing live at London's Electric Ballroom[1][2] and having written a new song called "Christine", which had given him ideas for further progress"
80's Indie music can create moments similar to those orchestral romantic film moments, where the heart, the mind, the soul and the ears are taken to a place rarely visited. Dark and heavenly.
Guy Chadwick. Underrated. The House of Love. Undrappreciated. Man, these guys brought anthems and emotions. The feels both large and intimate. I hope people find these guys once someone puts a track in a Netflix flick or car commercial. I don’t care how you find them. Just find them.
Christine, still walking at me Still talking at me Christine, such a sense of loss And the baby cried Christine, Christine And the whole world dragged us down And the whole world turned aside Christine, you're in deep, pristine With a god-like glow Christine, Christine, Heart and the glory and me Chaos and the big sea Christine, still walking at me Still talking at me Christine, Christine, Christine And the whole world dragged us down Not a sonnet not a sound And the whole world turned aside The cruelest hand just turned an eye Christine
I called my girlfriend Christine by mistake at a very unfortunate moment, when I explained it was from 'The House of love' the shit really hit the fan. Needless to say we are no more.... :D
So its nearly twenty years since I put on an indie tshirt and nervously qued up with the old looking students at Liverpool University to see them play their first album. God, I was green then.
One of the greatest/most underrated indie anthems of the 80's

Exactly what I thought
same
If you're in deep with "Christine", you'll drown with "Love in a Car" ...
I have been looking for this fu----ng song since 1992 LOL!!!!! found the treasure today!!!!!
Humans can create wonderful moments in time. This is one of them.
I fucking loved this song when I was, ooh, 15? I remember going to see the pixies live around the same time, still the best gig i've ever experienced. The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays were out. Acid house. We had everything and didn't even know it!
Heard this on 6Music this morning, turned volume right up. Such a fantastic masterpiece of a song.
Fantastic single. They took their Jesus & Mary Chain influence and did something utterly unique-sounding in the process.

"Greatness" is an understatement to describe this song.
it is so beautiful
It is full of magical feelings, like first love, and being young and living the days of our lives that we only hope we can live out again some day.
I’d go as far to say it’s my favourite song of all time
I heard this on MTV's 120 minutes program a very long time ago and I was mesmerized.
Great track.
Number one in my all time 80s/90s UK indie chart. Goose bumps every time...and a tear of joy/sadness.

Holy shit that's where i first heard it, I had no idea how to search for it back then but found it eventually somehow. Awesome
One of the best songs ever!
Love, his deep and haunting(in a good way) voice. Whenever I listen to their music I can travel back to University days.
Yes
I have been playing this song regularly since it was released. It is beautiful and just perfect.
im christine too - so we share not only the name but feeling about this song too
Beautiful song, great band. Guitars amazing in this. 'you're in D!!/deep'!
love this song so much. can't believe they're coming to Peru in March. makes me remember so many many things. keep on visiting us please!!! we need good music around here!!! somebody said depeche mode????

I've been looking for this song for years. It's one of those songs you love the first time you hear it and simply can't get enough. Thanks for posting this.
Nobody before or since has done guitar so sweeping and hypnotic.
A fucking great song of a fab band of the 80s!
One of the best all-time bands. Miss them so much !
There are no words sufficient to describe the guitars on this song...
I need myself a white wool sweater like that... seriously... I love the guitar effect in this song, my god so beautiful and haunting at the same time.
first heard this twenty years ago.. still sends a shiver up my spine.. it was a john peel favourite.
I love this song. Thanks for sharing!
I wish bowl haircuts were still on vogue. They are my soft spot.
I'm prepared to go full bowl for you :D haha. I remember people called them pudding basin cuts.
I used to have a bowl cut in middle school during the mid to late 90s.
On vogue? The magazine?
You'd have loved me back then--LMAO! My senior yearbook photos featured my chili bowl haircut. I'm currently growing my hair out long for my GF, and as it gets to target, it's reminding me of those days.

Tune! Great memories of being 18 and not having a care in the world
All students loved House of Love in the early 90s in the UK.
Greatest is an understatement to describe this band let alone this song
From Wikipedia: "Chadwick had been inspired to start a new band by having recently seen The Jesus and Mary Chain playing live at London's Electric Ballroom[1][2] and having written a new song called "Christine", which had given him ideas for further progress"
great tune from a great band. after all these years, I still think this was their best album. guy chadwicks solo, Lazy Soft and Slow is also fab.
There were dark songs well before and well after this one, just this one stands out as one of the most beautiful...
I just watched :-) Reminded me of when I was so much younger... Great song still!
Epic greatness are these guitars!

No expense spared in this particular video!
Reminds me of drinking vodka in my room with my friends on a Sunday night when I was 17.
Coming to the Netherlands,Paradiso ,Amsterdam,26 may 2016 !!
these guys are really serious in the way to create videos! this and destroy the heart are so perfect!
Saw them at Lisbon Coliseu back in 89. 200 people in a 2500 venue. Glorious sound.
MARAVILLOSA CANCIÓN !!!!!
Thank you for posting this. It took me 30 mins of looking to find the right version/group. I could not remember the group's name but only the title.
One of my all time favorite songs from the 80's.
Well said. At the time I was 18 & I also was in love deeply with this girl that would only be my friend only. Life bites sometimes.
I wish videos were still like this
I really like this song
tnx for the upload!!
i had the album on vinyl and i sold it
no regrets
I first heard this on John Peel back in 1988 when I was 17, I rushed out and bought the album the next day
They've announced they're releasing a brand new album this year.
Wow, thanks for posting this!!! This was one of my favorite songs back in the 80s. House of Love should have been much bigger than they were.
Appalling video, genius song.
surreal yet incredible myke tyson
Best song with my name in it!
Saw Elevation supporting The Sugarcubes in 1991. Bickers' music was deplorable. House of Love was class.
Elevation or Levitation?!
A classic, no doubt!
@RogueRholm put on that underrated list, kitchens of distinction
Saw them twice around 1990 I think; absolutely fantastic, and I got mistaken for their drummer after one of the concerts.
Guy Chadwick. Underrated. The House of Love. Undrappreciated. Man, these guys brought anthems and emotions. The feels both large and intimate. I hope people find these guys once someone puts a track in a Netflix flick or car commercial. I don’t care how you find them. Just find them.
Exact same issue here, taken me years to track this down until someone randomly played it at work this morning :)

I think that's a very fair point

Saw them, live, in, I think, early 1990. Hmm, that was a while ago...
Such a sad song...
Perfekt !!!!!!
This is great! you should hear the cover of this that Apollo Heights does.
Best kissing scene ever. Hands down.
GÄNSEHAUT
BEST INDIE. Best MIX JMC, Smiths,...
Christine, still walking at me

love this song

/r/thathappened
cool story bro
Funny that. When I called your girlfriend 'Christine' she was really turned on. Guess the tale's in the telling
no love in the house then.
A great Band. Big up Terry Bickers, c'mon guys, you're still around. Reform and make songs like you used to!
Classic 🖤
So its nearly twenty years since I put on an indie tshirt and nervously qued up with the old looking students at Liverpool University to see them play their first album. God, I was green then.
I love this song
heard this on trigger happy tv and thought this song sounded great but i searched the web for ages thinking it was JAMC...bloody song :)
used to love this my bro always played it when i was young
Ouvi em 1990 pela primeira. Que pena que ela acaba.
Does the beat pick up or the song get faster ? Either way I love it... :)
what a fabulous band.
DAMN I haven't heard this since I was a 15 yr old weirdo....thanx!!
