My mate who loves his MX5s and Volvo's keeps spamming me your build telling me we have to do one now 😅 I have to admit it's the coolest mx5 build I've seen.
Really really cool. Not too be a nitpicker but t5 was referred to for the high pressure turbo engines... They run 8.5:1 CR would be an absolute pig in na form lol. This however is the btcc setup, read how they got over 300bhp with the heads.
What did you do for engine mounts? Obviously custom but did you mount to standard location on the subframe or somthing different and what about sump custom or modified 960 part?
What rear end did you use for this? The E46? I'm planning out a GBS Zero kit car build using an NB 1.6 as a donor but down the line would love to do a Volvo 5-pot engine in it instead.

It helped loads having the custom subframe, gave extra clearance for the sump and exhaust. I think you could do the swap qith a standard one, would be a bit of a squeeze but i think it would fit.
@@cameronbradley8534 could you do a video on how the engine was mounted? This engine and a dct from a bmw trans with an adapter seems like a fun mix. And seeing how cheap the 5 cylinders are here it seems like a fun swap that would get me the sound I'd expect from an mx5.
Were you drive it? Its a great mix, MX5 with a 5Zyl NA from a more modern car. And no one has a MX5 like your's👌🤙 Do you come to the green hell aka Nürburgring? Or is it more your Daily 😅✌

Im a big Volvo fan and i love this buld, very neatly put together. Swedish reliability, 5 cyl power + lightweight Japanese shell = lots of fun

I love the ITB addition to the 5 pot! What was the extent of the work required to fit that on?
Easiest way is to weld an aluminium adapter plate to fit the head, and find a set of throttles to fit the plate with silicone joiners or flange

Its a custom tubular subframe and the engine is mounted to that using poly bush mounts. And the sump is a shortened 960 sump with 1L less capacity.

Just used the standard rear end using MX5 diff torson type 2 lsd with 3.6 ratio.

What air ride did you go with?
did the engine come with two oil filler caps? or whats the second cap for?
Nope its a modification, the BTCC volvo cars did this so you could check the cam lift and timing without taking the cam cover off.
that's amazing you made the manifold yourself, why rx8 injectors and why flip the rad?
What sort of engine management are you using? The stock Volvo electronics are very finicky.
I'm using a Megasquirt 3 ecu.

Are the gauges also working? Like are the revs and mph acurate?
Rev gauge works, but the speedo doesn't as the bmw gearbox doesn't have the fertility for a cable drive speedo.

1.5" bore and 20" long runners with a 2.5" collector.
also what ecu did you go with?
Not a T5 but its still the best.
It did have a 2.3L T5 Turbo setup before the 2.4L throttlebodie setup, just the turbo setup was not very reliable. But yeah thanks.

Mounting the engine is the easy part, you'll have to make custom mounts and custom gearbox mounts. Whats gearbox you using?
Where did you source your driveshaft and wiring harness?
Drive shaft is from Newcastle drives shafts and the wiring harness i made myself.
What transmission did you use or did the v70 from that year come RWD?
I wish it was that simple. Its a BMW e46 gearbox.

How difficult was it to mount and how difficult was the wiring?
The easyest part is mounting the the engine. The wiring is harder to do as its time consuming.
