You need to learn to bleed your sharks so you dont get that Ammonia Smell and taste. As soon as you get Them on shore and measure them cut their gills and set them back in the water this will bleed them and take that ammonia taste away. The milk is a good trick But you need to make The pieces smaller put them in a bowl and cover them completely with milk.
We bled them pretty immediately but left em out sitting for an hour or two lol.
@@BayandBeyondFishing Cut the tail of before you bleed it, leopard sharks pee through their skin
I've caught countless leopard sharks while growing up in San Francisco but never tried it. I super picky with fish and I'll probably never try it or maybe I will just to see how much I hate it 😂😂. Rays and sharks are super fun to catch. 🎣🎣
Honestly not horrible! Quite good like any white fish honestly. As for Rays... that will be answered another day 🤔😏
Good job! Having fun catching fish is one thing but looking for ways to make it taste good is just as challenging! You did great.
Aye selick park 😂😂😂
I would seriously reconsider eating anything out of SF bay. Currently Stripers & halibut are not recommended for consumption. Its posted out there.
Dude I hella forgot sellick park got bbq pits ..... Lol
Lol big park with 2 grills, easy to forget haha
Looks good You guys are down the street
lol yup! grew up in DC/SSF, I think you know my buddies Saliba and Colin from BJJ?
Bay and Beyond Fishing ohhhh yeah bro that right I forgot..
Nice catch bummer about the wind have you tried soaking the shark in buttermilk?
I was thinking of doing coconut milk, but I might have to try buttermilk and coconut milk, maybe do a comparison for the next one!
“Rays flew by“ 😂
Nice!! never had leopard, but heard they are awesome!
I live in Texas I catch blacktop sharks and bonnetheads all the time and I eat them if cooked wrong they will be very dry and hard. I'm about to move to Oregon but I would like to fish California for shark sometime maybe we can meet up I have a very good marinade that just smacks with shark meat juicy and tender and flavorful.
That spot has a lot of eels too.
They look tasty... Going to try fishing for them. Hope I don'y get a bat ray.
Definitely better than expected! Good luck!
The eggs looked super rich, Were they duck eggs?
what size sinker did you guys use? Nice video btw
Thanks! That day 3oz and 4oz kept getting swept in the strong currents. I ended up settling on a 5oz. My friend used 3 or 4 fine though because he was on a 20lb braid (less drag). People beside us were using SUPER light lines, carolina rig on like 1/2 or 1oz and were producing too. Good luck!
@@BayandBeyondFishing ohh ok, thanks!
Was that frozen bait?
It was live anchovies actually! J&P Bait sells em by the wharf, $20 for more than enough...just make sure you have multiple aerators as they die pretty easily.
@@BayandBeyondFishing ooh, okay! Essentially a 100% novice when it comes to this stuff. Hopefully trying to get on a shark this next weekend, just don't really know what time of day/where. Considering trying Pier fishing at night for one
@@lr5367 Nice! as far as time of day, I couldn't tell you if there was a optimum time for shark specifically, but generally incoming tides are the way to go for any salt fishing in general. Pier fishing for shark should be fine, bring a net though. You have a chance at shark from anywhere inside the Bay really. For live anchovies, I'd use k-hooks (look up OWNER brand K-Hooks), hook em under its mouth, through its nose; for frozen bait, any way you hook them, USE MAGIC STRING (magic string is a game changer)... Either way, you want to go Carolina Rig/Sliding Sinker. Maker sure you have a nice 4oz or 5oz pyramid as Bay tides can get pretty strong... Heavy line 50lb +, leader should be at least 20lb... GOOD LUCK!
@@BayandBeyondFishing thank you, very much appreciated
Nice! Pretty expensive bait for leopard shark. If that was the target species then a bag of frozen chovies or squid would have been a cheaper choice of bait. Those live anchovies would have been good bait at the Muncipal Pier, Oyster Point or the Rockwall. I heard that immediately bleeding and gutting the shark after landing it would improve the taste, but I think I'll stick with halibut or rockfish. Thanks for the upload.
We were targeting hali lol. Right when we got there, the folks next to us caught a 30” but we had no luck. Literally every other species bit though haha. Yeah might try OP next time
Never eaten halibut before...but may try to someday...just for the Halibut.
what size rod was josh using?
What's up brother I just Subbed, now I'm all over your channel checkout your vids LOLLL keep'em coming 🙏🏼🙏🏼 👍🏼
Everything is so good fried lol😂
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️👌
Keep 3 even if you don’t like it
Where is that spot at
Love da beava yeeee!
Taste pretty tough
That’s what she said!
Glad to see you expanding your taste for what's in our waters! And don't let the haters throw you off; shark, just like any fish, can make a bomb ass meal. Some fish just take to certain cooking methods better than others. Keep at it!
I'd recommend checking out Hank Shaw's site at honest-food.net/ . He's got recipes for all kinds of seafood that isn't commonly harvested. I've actually made leopard shark skin chicharrones using his recipe and it was so good.
Whoa! shark skin chicharones will definitely be on my list...
Hell yeah. Always try broadening your horizons 🤙
Whenever you're up north hit me up! I finally made the jump outta the Bay and am now a card-carrying resident of Sonoma County. It's hella big rockfish country up here 😁
@@user-kk6lc1th2r hahaha nice man, sounds like you're having fun! and will do!
what was that yellow line you were using?
Hey Navid, it was just 60lb Mono, I forget which brand was spooled a long time ago.
@@BayandBeyondFishing you think 80lb braid would work or is that to heavy
@@dookiebutt5011 I think 80lb Braid is would be great; particularly if you're targeting bigger fish; Braid is so thin anyway, also with 80lb, you'll never have to worry about getting caught up in seaweed.. just yank and it'll tear right through. Honestly I just went with this yellow mono for the pier... high vis and easily untangled if I ever cross with anyone. But for all around practicality, 80lb braid is perfect! more sensitivity as well...
@@BayandBeyondFishing great! thanks for the help!
