    It's like a gifted brain has a need to be active. Boredom is a major issue.

    The first person to mention not listening to music while focusing!! I always thought I might be sharing ADHD with being gifted (2e) but when I saw how all ADHDs agreed on how music helps them focus, I got confused?! Music hypnotizes me or annoys me.

    I only had your video at 1.25 lol. You’re succinct and not a slow talk-er. I agree with most of these, though I’d prefer silence when I’m reading just like I turn down music to see a street sign. In fact, television is my main nemesis. Oh, and that boyfriend controlling the remote, never muting commercials and if I leave the room, he comes in to interrupt my deep thinking. We need boundaries! I’d add “love of novelty” to the list. I love to try new routes, hidden secret escapes and boy, do I make an interesting cook. The boyfriend keeps his foods from touching each other and always wants to go on vacation to the same exact cabin. Cmon!!!😅

    Thanks for the info from another gifted, high sensitive and multipotentialite soul!
    9/10 in my case in this video! haha!
    And also, the more I learn about myself and giftedness the more I realise that my partner is also ND (although he hasn't been evaluated and he doesn't want either, but it's fine).
    FUN FACT: I would like to tell you something very interesting; when I'm imagining myself in a calm and peaceful place, always come into my mind a specific vision/place, but I don't know exactly where it is. The point is that, I started following you some months ago, when I discovered I'm neurodivergent to create community, learn info about ND... AND what I have realised TODAY watching this video is that, the place I picture myself is YOUR picture of the lake and mountains in every video or your profile pic on IG! hahahaha! Synchronicity and I love it!
    Greetings!

    Recently stumbled on your channel… I’ve always just thought i think about things backwards, fast, and that I hyperfixate… after listening to a few of your videos I think I might be gifted…. The music thing gets me. Ever since having kids I stopped listening to music completely… in the house it’s just too much stimulation and in the car I just can’t focus.

    My shrink recently told me that she thinks a lot of what I consider characteristics of my ADHD might be more related to my 'giftedness'. I asked her how she could tell the difference and she laughed. A lot of the characteristics explained here are also used as flags for ADHD and/or autism.

    I think for #10 it may also count to bask in the enjoyment of others' brainy solutions. When I try a new tool or technique, and it works, I can say, "This is BRILLIANT!! OUTSTANDING! Who did this? I wanna shake their hand!" For example, I love using those vacuum suction storage bags, where everything shrinks way down... I always feel a sense of satisfaction, like, "A-ha! I win! Take that, carry-on baggage rules!"

    Im all of them except number 5. I cant even imagine that happening 😊. Thanks for the playback speed advice. Slow videos drive me nuts. Understanding things quickly: i can do this, but not every time. For example, im still trying to get my head round a lot of quantum physics, regardless of how many quantum physics for dummies i read. Is this normal for gifted people?

    • @ThriveMindGiftedCoaching
      @ThriveMindGiftedCoaching  6 месяцев назад +2

      Absolutely. One common trait of gifted folks is asynchronous development, where we develop different skills at different rates. And also, we each have our own areas of expertise -- we'll learn new concepts in "our" areas quickly, and may learn concepts in other areas more slowly. I talk about this in my video about misconceptions of gifted people if you want to hear more :) ruclips.net/video/Hb-TQ6N-1Es/видео.html

    I resonate with all this, but I still always ask why and how. I must be wrong, but I have a strong feeling. I am highly gifted; it makes sense while simultaneously not making sense. Most likely, my environment and all the people around me seem normal to me, so it was a pattern I subconsciously recognized as a very young age, but on a similar note, ask why I would be so special even with all the evidence I have witnessed in my own life experience. I also don't understand how I understand complex topics with no real education at all since I've always been suspended, skipped school, or had any experience and am able to come up with things I've discovered alone and soon realize they have been discovered. I should be the dumbest person, but not somehow, or at least I think 😂
    At school, I was superior to everyone around me; I enjoyed fighting and was able to win, or I simply understood how to fight to a degree; everything was simply easy. At school, I just didn't want to do the work, so I just didn't. I wanted to just play video games or explore things on my own rather than be told what to do, and no one actually explained why it's important; they just told us we must do the work, and basically to the teachers and everyone, fuck you. I felt like an adult trapped in a child's body. I always found it odd how I was always teaching everyone how to do things like gaming, sports, etc. while no one was teaching me 😅

    Pretty much all 10 points. Some not to be proud of.... Luckily I don't get mad mad when someone interrupts me when i'm in my " I'm finally starting to understand this " phase.
    Due too allot of childhood trauma my " giftedness " got misinterpreted as autism. And ehh... it hasn't helped me much. I'm only finding out now that it's something else. At 32 years old.... what a waste.

    • @ThriveMindGiftedCoaching

  • @Silvery_jassy

    Do you consider what you describes in this video as being on the spectrum?

    • @ThriveMindGiftedCoaching
      @ThriveMindGiftedCoaching  7 месяцев назад +6

      Not necessarily. Some gifted people are on the spectrum, and some people on the spectrum are gifted, but they're not exactly the same thing. "On the spectrum" generally refers to autism. Both giftedness and autism are a neurodivergence, but in different ways. People with both are often referred to as twice exceptional, or 2E.

    Have a question, we have some gifted people, but maybe not quite on the top of the list, or maybe because we are 2E, gifted and dyslexia, or gifted and BiPolar, so we never had the diagnosis u til adulthood. But now we have a grandson, 6 years old this week. Profoundly gifted. Has lots of things that actually everyone said autism when he was 2 and 3, but now no signs of autism at all. My question is schooling, public just does not work he was skipped 4 years last year, and will be ready for middle school in winter break. We can’t do that, so we will go school. Our problem is getting him to do anything he does not like, he will go through 20 pages of math, he will read his book in a day, rather than 2 weeks. He will do 5 weeks of science and history in 20 min. But then spelling, writing, putting thought on paper, he will not do even in the subjects he loves. It has become a block for both of us. I think it has something to do with him being a 6 year old and not having the fine motor skills he wants to have. Others think it is his stubbingness. How do we get over this, because it is holding him back in all subjects but math. He needs to practice to get better, but we go weeks begging, promising his favorite things if he will do it. I don’t want to punish because that could backfire, oh if it don’t do this I get to go to my room where I can read about space or do countries. Any suggestions?

    • @ThriveMindGiftedCoaching
      @ThriveMindGiftedCoaching  3 месяца назад +2

      It's normal for gifted children to have asynchronous development, meaning that they excel in certain areas but are still at their age level in other areas. Try to be patient and set realistic goals that focus on progress rather than perfection. You can also:
      Understand the Root Cause
      1) Assess Motor Skills: Consider having his motor skills evaluated by an occupational therapist. Improving these skills could reduce his frustration with writing and spelling.
      2) Identify Emotional Blocks: Sometimes, resistance can stem from fear of failure or perfectionism. Encourage a growth mindset by celebrating effort and progress rather than just the end result.
      Engage His Interests
      1) Integrate Interests: Find ways to incorporate his favorite subjects into less favored ones. For example, if he loves science, have him write about a recent experiment or a scientific discovery.
      2) Creative Approaches: Use creative methods to teach spelling and writing. For instance, create stories together where he dictates and you write, gradually encouraging him to take over the writing.
      Try Practical Strategies
      1) Break Tasks into Small Steps: Smaller, manageable tasks can make the work seem less overwhelming. Celebrate the completion of each step to build a sense of accomplishment.
      2) Use Technology: Allow him to use a computer or tablet for writing assignments. Typing might be easier for him than handwriting and can be more engaging.
      3) Visual Aids: Use visual aids like mind maps or graphic organizers to help him structure his thoughts before writing.
      Use Motivation and Rewards
      1) Choice and Autonomy: Give him some control over his learning. Let him choose the order in which he completes tasks or select from a list of writing prompts.
      2) Positive Reinforcement: Use positive reinforcement, such as a reward system for completing less favored tasks. Make sure the rewards are immediate and meaningful to him.
      Collaborate and Communicate
      1) Regular Check-ins: Have regular check-ins to discuss his feelings about different subjects and any challenges he faces. This can help you address issues as they arise.
      2) Team Approach: Work with his teachers or a tutor who understands gifted children. They might have additional strategies and resources to offer.
      Good luck!
