JLO has always spoken about Selena in such a beautiful and respectful way. She’s always acknowledged Selena’s impact on her career. PLEASE stop with the comparisons, and PLEASE hating on this woman already. She’s worked very hard for the life she has now. She doesn’t owe anybody anything. SELENA is SELENA, and JLO is JLO.

Selena lives on because of that movie. JLo became famous because of that movie. I'm from South Central Texas and saw Selena become the Queen of Tejano. Who knows what she could have become if she had survived. But the world will always have her music. Con orgullo de Tejas....

The impact Selena had in music and in the lives of many that met her in person (including Beyonce who met Selena one day in a shopping mall before Beyonce was famous) is priceless. Selena lived a short life. But, has left a long legacy that won't be deleted by time. Many celebrities like Selena are nationally or internationally famous for only a few years before they die. Jimi Hendrix was famous for only four years before dying. Kurt Kobain from Nirvana was famous for only four years or so before he died. James Dean was only famous for a few years. Ritchie Valens who wrote La Bamba died six months after La Bamba was released. Selena enjoyed fame less than 10 years. But, she is still considered the Queen of Tex Mex music.

Jlo truly loves and admires Selena, so it's really unfair to compare them.

Selena was definately NOT a DIVA. The word "DIVA" is used to describe female artists who are kind of arrogant and demanding, and Selena was very humble and accommodating. "Legend", definately, but NEVER a "DIVA".

Jennifer owes her music career to Selena, just like Adele owes her music career to Amy Winehouse. Selena and Amy were the originals, the ones with true star quality. Jennifer and Adele will always be second rate next to them.

BLTKellys J.Lo owes her career to
      1. Tommy Mottola, who desperately wanted a revenge on Mariah,
      2. whoever betrayed Mariah and stole her song for J Hoe
      3. whoever betrayed Ashanti (...)
      4. Rosie Perez, whotalked others to give her a chance on Fly Girls
      5. her beauty

I don't think Adele owes her career to Amy. She was HEAVILY inspired by Amy but she had always wanted to become what she is now. Selena changed Jennifer's career and turned her in a different direction, don't think this is the same case as Adele.

Jennifer looked too Caucasian to play Selena.

jordy They should have gotten an actress that looked more Mexican. Jennifer was too white and European looking for the part!

    • @kaleoy7584
      @kaleoy7584 5 лет назад

There was an outcry from the American Mexican community of Selena's hometown because they too felt the part should have gone to a Mexican. If you can find a clip from Geraldo Rivera's talk show when he had Selena's family and the actors that played them, they (Selena's family) talked about it.

@@DeepScreenAnalysis I personally think Jennifer was a great fit. I can't imagine any one else doing a better job. The movie is a classic! It would've fallen flat if the actress couldn't embody Selena's spirit, but that's exactly what Jennifer did. There are moments in this film that are just magical. There's a great radio interview I heard where Abraham Quintanilla talked about the process of getting this film made and how he had to push to cast Latinos, because studios wanted to cast white actors. They held casting calls for the role of Selena, and they got 4 girls to go do a screen test at Warner Bros. The girl Abraham liked, who he said looked a lot like Selena, unfortunately could not act to save her life. Then Jennifer Lopez's turn came to come in and do her screen test and she nailed it after 3 takes. Even if her casting was controversial in the Mexican community, Jennifer Lopez proved herself. Just look at what she did with this role and how, through her performance in this film, she was able to help cement Selena's legacy in pop culture and the hearts of generations.

yes! Selena is probably the most famous transgender female singer, a true groundbreaking brave person, if it was a different time he could have come out as trans, but
J Lo was the perfect actor to play him

Wow. Sounds like someone is either jealous of the fact that she'll never be a fraction of the woman that Selena was, or of the fact that he'll never be with a woman that even approaches being the woman that Selena was. Oh, well. Not everyone can be, or be with, a stunningly beautiful, extremely talented and successful woman.
