I have one of those egg cookers and I love it. It's so convenient. You can just set it and forget it and it'll sing to you when your egg is ready. And it's cheap. I definitely recommend.
Poking a hole in the bottom of an egg is not to make it easier to peel, but to let the air out so that the egg does not crack during cooking so that the contents do not come out and you can throw your egg away. I'm from the Netherlands and we have been using the egg picker for at least 100 years haha.
Ps, I would only boil eggs in this plastic gadget and not steam vegetables or poach eggs. It doesn't hurt eggs, you peel them. But for the rest, the rule of thumb is; NEVER heat food in plastic.
