Surprised you said that it's too expensive considering the Dualsense itself is $70, and the Dualsense Edge is $200. To go outside of Sony, the LG G cloud is $350 similar device but with more functionality as it can connect to more services but essentially the same thing being a cloud streaming handheld device. I get that remote play hasn't been the best for everyone and you don't find the concept to be worth that much money, but I think its a fair price. I wish it did more for example being able to play the cloud streaming games (I never get around to playing those.) on it's own, maybe a browser and other streaming services such as the LG G cloud.
For me I've only used remote play a handful of times and not for extended periods of time. So it would not be wise for me to pick this up, but once the used ones start showing up I may snag one.

Remote play is not cloud streaming! You are playing the game directly from your PS5. The game is running on your PS5 not in the cloud. If you have reasonable internet then you will have good connection to your PS5 and the game will play like its on your PS5 except instead of sending the picture to you TV it is sending the image to the Portal. As someone who has used remote play on other devices latency comes into play if you are not on solid internet conmection but in your own house or at a hotel or any place that has good solid wifi.....remote play works perfectly fine. I don’t recommend listening to anyone in this community about remote play because the same people who are telling you that remote play sucks are the same people telling you that X cloud, Geoforce Now and other actual cloud streaming services are great.

    • @echosaxe
      @echosaxe Год назад

@@corey_massey You are streaming the game data over a wireless connection and in my experience they both work well on a good connection. The cloud is simply a data center in place of your own ps5. Obviously the performance of a signal coming from a device in your home while you are still in your home would be a more stable connection than reaching out to the "cloud". I have used PlayStation remote play across states and it still performed well, and in that scenario I don't see how that differs greatly from cloud streaming.

I want to play my PS5 from different rooms and from the bed all the time due to having a child and needing to be in different rooms and not able to just sit down for long hours at a time some days to play games. I actually see this doing well. It is a bit high, but the use case for it is something that feel would be pretty common for a lot of people. Yeah, there's other alternatives, like the backbone, but I wouldnt mind paying a bit extra for the dual sense integration and not needing to use my phone to remote play. It's a niche use case, but one that I feel is really common.

I think Sony missed the mark with this device for two things, no Bluetooth and no native streaming with the most notably being no Bluetooth like why?, now what makes this device obsolete is that it does what many other devices have being doing for some time, the way Sony could make this device stand out is add storage and allow to download games from our PS5s that way we don’t have to be tethered all the time and can be used really anywhere, minimized the use of wifi just for connecting remotely to the PS5 to download games.

But I don't think this PS Portal thing is as much of a dud as many people are making it out to be.
For the price, I actually think it's not a bad deal. The way I see it, it costs just as much as the Dual Sense Edge; but instead of the added features you get from the Dual Sense Edge as a stand-alone controller you get a screen that you can remote-play your PS5 games on. So it's kinda cool if you look at it that way.
And, as a lot of people on here have already pointed out, this thing will be perfect for anyone who has to share their main TV with others in their household (spouse, kids, roommates, etc.). I have a wife, but she ALWAYS watches TV in the bedroom, plus we don't have kids and don't really plan to, which means I pretty much always have sole access to the living room TV that I have my PS5 hooked up to. So I can just play my Playstation games on my main TV whenever I feel like it. In addition to that, we do also have a PS4 Pro hooked up to the bedroom TV. So I've got access to a whole library of games in there too (for when the wife isn't watching the TV in there or isn't home; she sometimes works graveyard shift nights). But I do see A LOT of husbands/fathers on here who are actually pretty stoked about this PS Portal. Even I would like the ability to play the games from my PS5 in other places in the house. Specifically we have a nice, screened-in porch where I like to hang out when I want some fresh air. I usually just play my Vita when I'm out there, but it would be nice to be able to play my other PS5 games out there too. Or there are those times when "nature calls" and I end up stick on the toilet for longer than I want to be; and if I happen to be in the middle of a game on my P5 it would be nice to just take it with me while I'm doing my business rather than pausing (especially if it's one of those "I'm going to be in here for a while" situations; I know, TMI. But it does happen to all of us from time to time). I used to be able to do all that with my PS4 Pro and my Vita and kinda miss it.
And yes, you can get a Backbone, or a Razer Kishi, or whatever. However, if you are particularly partial to that whole feel and haptic feedback thing you get from the Dual Sense, then this PS Portal is probably the only option. Or in my case, I have a phone with a 6.8" screen, and I consider that to be one of the larger smartphones, so I'm betting that an 8" screen with 1080p and 60 fps is going to be an upgrade from their smartphone for the vast majority of people. So if premium controls and a nice screen are important to you, then this PS Portal might be worth checking out.
All that being said, I am thinking/hoping that if this thing does do well that maybe, just MAYBE Playstation will listen to us and come out with an updated version that, at the very least, will allow you to download games to the device so you can play them offline. Or possibly even develop some games specifically "for the PS Portal" (like they did with the PSP and the Vita). I mean how hard can it be to just slap a mini SD card into that thing? Even if it's only a couple hundred gigs you could still download a lot of smaller-mid sized games, or even a few larger games, and play them offline on the device itself without having to deal with the whole Wi-Fi ordeal. It does kinda suck how everything has to be "on-line" these days; and that's the main thing I don't like about the PS Portal. I truly do HATE how things are starting to trend that way. It's like that new Texas Chain Saw Massacre game. I'm a horror geek and planned on getting that day one until I found out that not only do you have to be on-line to play it, it doesn't even have a 1-player and/or campaign option? QUIT TRYING TO FORCE BEING SOCIAL ON ME!!! When it comes to video games I'm a bit of a lone wolf and prefer it that way!
In the end though, I probably won't be picking one up right away just because I'm not in a situation where I can just thrown down $200 on something that, for me, is just a "kinda cool convenience". If I could afford to do that then I would have gotten a Dual Sense Edge by now and/or added an additional SSD to my PS5. While I'm sure there's a lot of other people in that same situation as I am, I'm sure there are plenty of people who are gonna snag this thing up on day one. Just judging by what I'm seeing in these comments on here there is definitely a market for this thing. I have a feeling that a lot of the nay-sayers who are predicting this thing will be "dead on arrival" might be surprised by how well it sells. I'm betting it will at least do better than the PS VR2 has done, which is easily much cooler, more advanced, and has more to offer than the PS Portal (in my opinion anyway). It's WAY more affordable than the VR2 at least. It almost seems like there's a lot of haters that just WANT this thing to fail, and that's not very cool in my book.
No matter what, I do feel that Sony usually puts out high quality hardware. I do think it's often a bit over-priced, but usually worth it all things considered. As I kinda pointed out earlier, I don't think the PS Portal is really over-priced. Or at least, it's not as expensive as I thought it was going to be. I'm sure that, for what it is, it will be a good quality product. It's hard telling what will happen with this thing, but I am curious to see how it all turns out. We'll just have to wait and see.

It’s crazy how Sony is going backwards with their new handheld products. A dedicated handheld is what most real gamers want. Hell, you could play the PSP and Vita ANYWHERE you want without internet. This new device makes no sense since you could remote play on almost every modern device these days. I’m not gonna support this cashgrab.

Being a remote play only is stupid. Having a full handheld would be so much better in every way. I could do share on my phone/tablet and play with a controller. The PlayStation portal in my opinion is just a lazy cash grab

For me... as someone that already HAS ps5. And you still somehow NEED the ps5 to use that Portal thing... Remote play.. On a small screen.. That isnt a good thing. Its just.. Bad. Not really something that is worth it. And its just remote play. Not. Oh. We are going to let people play Psp and psvita games they have on the handheld thing.. Its just.. Remote play.. That you CAN do on the COMPUTER:. That is still a thing. its streamed tot he computer. So you dont need to be there to play it. So the question is.. Why? What is the range even of this? Its not like the Switch. Where you DOCK IT.. and play on tv.. And then take it out to play it outside.. Or when you need to take a shit. THis is just.. Pointless. Maybe i will get one. Just for the hell of it. Who knows. Maybe it becomes worth something later. Im a big sony fan. But not braindead. Like the people who bought that overly expensive CONTROLLER. But.. I dont know. Its just stupid.

Everybody that's thinking of buying this mess is about to waste their $$$, you already can do this ish on your phone.
And worse yet most Sony users "Think" you can use it on the go like a handheld, but you can't. You have to be near your ps5 for this mess to work.
This mess will go the way of Stadia and will be discontinued within 2 years.
