This was the song that took from liking blues-based rock of the day (late 60s/early 70s) to exploring the blues. I had a chance to go this concert and ended up skipping it...to my lasting dismay. Muddy was THE Man!
I have seen the film so many times and absolutely love it but I have never heard of Bob Margolin and I am grateful you took the time to inform me. Thank you!
It was Levon who refused to participate in The Last Waltz if Muddy was excluded, as Levon said "WTF did Neil Diamond ever have to do with us,,!" Levon was a good friend of mine, it was Robbie and Martin Scorsese who wanted to cut Muddy from the artists list..another shameful omission of this line up was John Hammond Jr. and Levon and Rick Danko both told me of how bad they felt about that..! Another point Paul Butterfield was also a long time good friend dear friend and he was so proud of this work and loved and often mentioned how he and Garth just kept hitting the same note just that one note throughout this take..!
+TJ Colatrella Thank God they didn't cut Muddy out. Is it just me or does it seem the Band cannot keep up with muddy? His other versions are way quicker than this one.
I also heard those cameras had a tendency to overheat. Muddy Waters gave the right blues note to the occasion. I had only heard of but not heard his music before seeing this for the first time. Paul Butterfield was masterful on the blues harp. Without him the song wouldn't seem right.
went to movies with pal when fifteen i asked what we were going to see as i could not get in to certain films as my age stoped it the movie was amazing purchased the album next day been listen to it on and off for long time but muddy gave a five star performance yours the vinyl
Hah! I didn't KNOW it was Kovács. But my info comes from WAY back (long before Wiki and computers). So far back, in fact, I can't remember where! I must say the idea Marty ordered filming to STOP goes directly against what I heard: that the cameramen all just happened to come in for a refill at the same time, sans one. And that he was MORTIFIED he might have MISSED the Best Performance Of The Night - until the lone cameraman who WAS filming returned for a refill and assured him it was SAFE.
But you didn't say that it was László Kovács ;) and that he only got this because he was ignoring Scorsese's orders to stop filming - at least this is what Wikipedia says, and we know it's never wrong...
With Wikipedia as my guide, I almost managed to put this entire concert into a video/music playlist. So for the fans - I invite you all into my channel. Enjoy the show. And may God bless The Band.
Scorcese would have to be an idiot not to wan't to film this. The truth is they had thechnical problems. Just read the info! Who is the guitarrist w. the big hair next to Muddy Waters?
yeah the band was loaded, check Rick's bass work- the fingers don't match the track. Lotta overdubs. Muddy kills as always. dont hurt me dont hurt me child
Notorious spotlight hog Robbie Robertson. Great performance by Muddy, but just a muddy mess by the Band. I guess they forgot to unplug Robbie on this one.
One of the greatest songs of all time
oh yea!

Your Right Soul Music MAN, it don't get no better than Muddy, he stole the Show! The Happiest Performer there.

Absolutely gorgeous! Muddy Waters, The Band, and Paul Butterfield together on stage! I love that concert!

An absolute crime to short The Man: BB King🙏🏾💜🌹🎼

The godfather of modern blues..
+Daniel Prasetyo the BEST!
The guitarist next to Muddy is Bob Margolin. He played guitar for Muddy for several years in the '70's.
Gives me chills, somebody is blowing the HELL outta that Harp, Rock and Roll has been drinking Muddy Water😀
OH YES!!

I saw in an interview Scorcese said it was due to technical difficulties and only one camera was operational at the time.
Wit luv from D orig MeanMannishMan
The cameraman who caught this was László Kovács. Great cinematographer.
Robbie R. kills it!!!
Butterfield could back Muddy up perfectly too.Brilliant.
Hear this a 100 times in a row, you want to hear this another 100 times in a row. Robertson on guitar is the only man left. Pity.
Muddy & his guys : Bob Margolin on guitar, & Pinetop Perkins on the piano. Here you see why & how he was the boss.
the 1 dislike clearly has no soul
Yup
That's what I heard as well.
@soulmusic247 - I SAID all that! No-one EVER reads my info panels... ;=)

Ha! That's good band info. there.
@ledwhofloyd101 Thank you :-)
Paul Butterfield is blowing one note for five minutes.
But you didn't say that it was László Kovács ;) and that he only got this because he was ignoring Scorsese's orders to stop filming - at least this is what Wikipedia says, and we know it's never wrong...
MUDDY SURE SAID 'I'M A MAN WITH AUTHORITY.
