- Sharad is a creator (and an avid TED attendee), media entrepreneur, professor and self-professed comic book geek who wants you to break some rules and spark a creative renaissance in India.
His new company, Graphic India, is the culmination of his lifelong dream to launch characters, heroes and stories that tap into the unique creativity and culture of India but appeal to audiences worldwide. In the same way the West has created superheroes or Japan launched anime, Graphic India is transforming the perception of India in animation from being an 'outsourcer" to being 'the source.'
Sharad believes that great stories foster our imaginations and fuel our inspirations and the next Steven Spielberg, Hayao Miyazaki, JK Rowling or Stan Lee is sitting somewhere in India ready to change the world with the next great story.
Graphic's recent projects include 18 DAYS, a digital web series reimagining the Mahabharata with acclaimed Batman writer, Grant Morrison and Indian artist Jeevan J. Kang; and CHAKRA THE INVINCIBLE, an Indian superhero Sharad co-created with legend, Stan Lee (co-creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, The Avengers)
In addition to Graphic India, Sharad is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, and was previously the Co-Founder and CEO of Virgin Comics a company he co-founded, with Sir Richard Branson, authors Deepak Chopra, Gotham Chopra and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.
Sharad was also the co-creator of the acclaimed, 'Spider-Man: India' comic series from Marvel. Where Spider-Man was reinvented as an Indian boy growing up in Mumbai, as "Peter Parker" became "Pavitr Prabhakar."
I like when he said "superheros are modern mythologies of our world"
Great work Sharad. I would like to see more Indian superheroes in mainstream media.
So thrilled and stunned by that girls video, India is a country with great culture, love to see these young girls talking about the powers they would like to have..
The illustrated Mahabharata is awesome!
As an American, the, "18 Days," RUclips channel was the last step I needed to investigate further The Mahabharata, and I can't thank existence enough for that.
We *NEED* Indian superheroes here! They bring such amazing points of philosophy to our culture that simply don't exist currently.
PLEASE! Take this to the next step! There aren't any (media) English translations of the Ramayana after the 1980's series available, and the Stars Mahabharata isn't in English.
We Need You.
Those images in 18 days are so vivid. It isn't just a comic, it is art.
I have to just say how great the art work is in these comics.
very interesting how these children all want superpowers that would in some way help or improve the life of others.
The art work was incredible!
Good job Sharad, you are sparking a creative renaissance in India with your comics.
Absolutely wonderful dear.
This artwork is amazing. The way these stories should be seen

Awesome video. Love watching TED talks and this one about these comic books was especially cool.
Cool to see this version of the Mahabharata, I remember Aamir Khan saying in Aap ki Adalat, That Mahabharata heroes would make the best super heroes.
Great work Sharad ji :)
I personally love 18 days, Chakra and even many of the 'Virgin Comics' titles!!
Is there any chance to restart the titles like Ramayan 3392 AD and Kshatriya: Blade of The Warrior?

Is this going to become a move?
this was more like an ad. I just got nothing out of this. seriously
Thumbs up if you like it..
what other indian superheroes are there?
Can't wait for more videos
anyone else watching this for school
I sincerely hope "west" will have enough empathy to embrace Indian philosophy. It is clear that every superhero needs to come from current needs, therefore we see females in need for superpower which would aid most basic needs in India - food, shelter and health. Just like "west" wanted defending superheroes who would protect their way of living. Possible success I see is in the fact that "west" now faces same issues like "east".
... "Girl Power"? Seriously? Ohh.
DoNotTrust Also comic books are'n gonna help to reduce this massive amount of girls in poverty. The thing that is going to is to STOP HAVING SO MUCH KIDS WHEN YOU CAN'T FEED THEM goddamit
