- Its crazy how big data is used to solve some kinds of problems and not others.
Prukalpa Sankar reimagines a world where we can catch criminals at the scene of the crime - not years later, reroute cars in real time to prevent traffic congestion that we all hate so much, predict if a child is going to drop out of school before they even knows it and eradicate a disease as it breaks, not 1000s of deaths later.
Prukalpa is the co-founder of Atlan (www.atlan.com), a data intelligence company. Their platform brings the entire decision-making process to one place - from collecting primary data and accessing secondary data to merging internal data and visualizing data via easy-to-use dashboards. They work with over 150 organizations in 7+ countries, including the Gates Foundation, Tata Trusts, Government of India, Unilever, and Frost & Sullivan. Atlan was on the 2016 Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 and Fortune India 40 Under 40 lists.

"A world where we can eradicate a disease as it breaks out, not thousands of deaths later"
Me in quarantine because of the corona virus: Alright time to learn data science
A Bashari No data science is predicting a novel viruses and it’s effect before it happens
@@NnamdiNw it´s not about predicting the viruse but with a lot of data you can predict the problemas and the amount of deaths, Bill Gates took all the data available and did a ted talk about the next pandemic and how would affect the world years before it happened. That is the point of data science and big data
@@AtaTheKin did you read the comment I’m replying to. 😂😂
@@NnamdiNw yeah I get the first comment was a joke

With such huge population and uneven distribution of basic necessities.. Creating such technology-based decision-making tools is real & meaningful support to our Nation. THANKS!! to your team for such efforts in the betterment of our society.

Wao gud 2 see such young zealous.. lady who reallly care abot india .. hats offf...
This should definitely be an obligatory view for anyone at business school. Superb way to sell the impossible to the clueless.

Nice presentation and greetings from germany.
Well done socialcops!!! Good talk ;)
Loved this!
Such a wonderful presentation. We definitely don't need people who can speak with complex words and fancy accents. 95 out of 100 people would have followed what she was trying to put across. KUDOS to this speaker :")
great effort.....
Amazingly explained how much data can influence our decisions thanku mam👏👏👏👏👏you are amazing🙌 thanku TEDx for such a useful and wonderful video
Great presentation Prukalpa
Hats off.. Awesome work
nice effort for social cause
Excellent
Wow..!👌
Awesome... 😃👍👍👍
alot of facts here, very good
Great job guys!! Do something for agriculture
What an interesting point of view toward data, thanks a lot
Wonderful insight ... India is where big data can make the true impact , affecting the life of billions
A lot of people in my country think they are gifted in this art, they have much to learn!
Even today on 13 march 2019, IOC (Indane gas) & Bharat petroleum LPG has each one distributor for a village of 1 lakh population. Ideally a distributor shouldn't have more than 5000 consumers so they can cater timely & efficiently. It will create more entrepreneur & employment as well as smooth & timely delivery to consumers.
one of the nicely content wise organised ted talks
Great presentation...thanks
good one
Excellent!!! Keep going👍
so, these guys have "done" things!! and we still have "an idea"..
dude, just go ahead and do it!!
yeah sleepy developers, I am talking to you!!
Very true, I had the same problem while trying to make a study on healthcare & big data on my country
Inspirational

in india???? thats great work 😊
Nice explanation...
inspiring
Use Data to improves the lives. Wish you all the best Social cops.
10:11 this line is needed in coronavirus time
Excellent.
Excellent ! Keep it up !
Good cause. I am with speaker on most of the points. Not the following one - Calling Mumbai still as Bombay is not a data problem. It is a mindset problem! Renaming happened about 20 years ago. I doubt big data can solve the mindset problems of Indians.
Well delivered speech!
This speaker is amazing!
amazing
The world with data would be very interesting to live in
Nice presentation.
Well put
Congrats
Inspired
Hatss off
great
My boss 🔥🔥
Thank you for your efforts.. and you are beautiful
thnks ...in INDIA now days using big data for making solar energy ...nonreneweble energy...now days india growing in each sector .......but except some things
which algo you people use for this
You also need to collect data at this time how many villagers use daily because I know lots of people who have LPG cylinders and now they don't use this connection and they often use "chulha". Because LPG CYLINDERS provided by government are so costly and sabsidy is also not provided for that people.
Beautiful lady with brain
Railways too
Villegers downloading app and pass on information that they need LPG is miraculous. Great!
Kamakshaiah Musunuru you get it all wrong. Villagers downloaded the app just to give the coordinates of all the lpg suppliers that supplies lpg in the whole district to get the mapping done.
Much Need Work SocialCops. Thank You !
I wish I can smash the like button 10x ❤️
In a country like India where there is plenty of natural resources available like Solar energy, using BigData on providing nonrenewable energy resource (LPG) centers is not a worth solution....
Young India need to think big
I doubt that natural resources like solar energy is easily available to rural people.
LPG ke paise v unke Daddy nahi denge..!!
Hope you are already using Solar Energy to at your home !
the problem with our non-renewable energies is that they aren't reliable. solar does'nt work the same during a rainy day just as it does on a hot summer.
Seriously? Data is not providing LPG mam, it is providing strategy. When you have 10000 lpg centers to establish, data is telling the optimum locations rather than establishing them in random locations. You need to see the video carefully
I once saw that even in NBA ppl are using alogs to predict the movement of camera so that it will follow the ball everywhere....it's at another level....btw this is predictive analytics not big data...involving data gathering...preparation...modeling and validation...then implementation...this is not big data.
😍😍😍
lady census data is universally imperfect
Some unsung heroes are doing more work than Beaurocracy
Calling this big data is stretching it a bit too far, when all that social cops is doing is remodelling traditional data collection methods into it IT enabled data which is easily accessible and hence usable. Well there are already many softwares out there so I am really wondering what is the novelty in her idea
I'm curious. Softwares like what?
@@silentriddles4907 ArcGIS
But isn't big data simply the masses of data available digitally? 🤔 Then the analytics of it is using algorithms to find (sometimes unknown) connections to inform decisions and make predictions?
Maybe the point here is, no one leveraged data like this.. Or when people did it, it is not advertised/documented
I dont agree on one aspect that data cant be stored in local language..it is a structural and standardization deficiency which exists and not language..data in local language can be as it can be in english or so other.
I totally agree with you
I'm truly impressed by this. I've encountered similar material before, and it was nothing short of amazing. "Game Theory and the Pursuit of Algorithmic Fairness" by Jack Frostwell
To get an idea what big data doing in the "civilized" world, search the web for "Cambridge Analiytica" and Facebook.
