    I'm only just realising now that the Crows of the reeds are being removed due to my audio mastering settings. Sorry everyone!

    Great job Andrew! I enjoyed hearing and seeing your methodical and structured approach. I have a tip profiler and all reeds are playable from it right away, however it always was a little bit of a gamble for me to scrape any further. Your video has given me some confidence and fantastic ideas to try!

      Glad that they are coming off immediately useable for you, Cameron! I could use many straight off as well, but there is just that slight advantage to blending the fibers if the blade isn’t brand new.

    Hello! Please, make video about using dial indicator. Thanks for your work.

      Hi thanks for your comment. Do you just want to know how to use it?

      @@burnbassoon Yes. I just don't know how to use it and don't know what measurements I need. I'm just starting to learn reed making by myself, your videos was very helpful. I would like to know if it’s necessary to use dial indicator at all.

    Good video! I appreciate the tip profiler blade depth recommendation of .04mm. Do you have a recommendation for blade depth on a profiler? Thanks!

    • @burnbassoon
      @burnbassoon  2 месяца назад

      It also depends on the distance of the cutting plate from the blade. Some companies have too wide a tolerance to accommodate for 0.04mm. You may have to go to 0.02mm. Blade depth on profiler: no, only because I don’t have a reliable way to measure. I generally sharpen my blade after 40 reeds, so I can allow for quite a deep cut. I like to see the bark come off in one pass. That’s not really helpful, I know…

      @@burnbassoon It's always nice to hear about other approaches. I've never really measured specifically for my profiler (Rieger) just adjust the blade height (new or sharpened) until it feels "normal". Always wondered if I should be more "scientific" with it. haha! Thanks for your quick reply!

    I have found that applying very little pressure with my tip profiler when I do the tip does less of the rough ends. I let the blade do the work slowly.

    Interesting approach with your reed finishing.what you found differently between use knife and diamond finer?

    • @burnbassoon

      In this case I don’t use the file as a replacement for the knife, I use the file to blend in the template of the tip profiler with the pre-existing profile.

    Another great video Andrew, and nice macro work at the end... Reeds n stuff recommend a 15mm scrape length for my template (THOM) as they do for the one you're using in this video. But I always get a ledge at the sides and sometimes in the middle. I profile on an MD profiler to 0.87 just above the collar and about 0.55 at the fold. What scrape length are you using here? I suspect it's less than 15mm. I've set my tip profiler to arrive at .32 in the middle of the tip BTW

      Thanks! Interesting. I don’t have this Thom template… I have set my matchine to go as far back as possible before the back of the blade makes contact with the 1st wire. This makes the possibility for a profile of 20mm, however the blade only begins to make contact with the wood further toward the tip. I would suggest trying to extend the scrape length and see if it takes the ledge away.

      Yep. Thanks! Moving the scrape length an extra 5mm longer made the difference and now doesn’t create a ledge. I hadn’t taken into account the fact the template ramps up from left to right. Thank you again!
