A jig has gotta be my favorite. Honestly it seems as though I don’t get quite as many bites on a jig, but when I do more times than not it’s a hog!!! Which I guess is the reason I enjoy it so much!
Best way to learn about jig fishing is to fish with a jig master. I learned from a buddy who coached me while standing next to him. Most of my jig fish I never feel, I see line movement and set the hook. Waiting to feel a fish usually ends with me missing it.
As someone who has caught the bulk of his fish on jigs and Texas rigs for close to 5 decades I can tell you that this information is accurate and reliable, especially the part about colors. Forget matching the hatch. Focus on water clarity and sky conditions then worry about the rest.
In 7 minutes you more clearly and understandably explained using a jig than I've found in hours of consuming other sources of info. BTW, I landed my first ever jig caught bass this summer on one of your old school jigs and it was my PB small mouth.
2 years ago I found myself at a private lake. The bass we’re hitting everything I tied on. Had 0 confidence in jigs, having thrown them but never caught a fish. I spent on a whole day on that lake throwing a jig. Since then, it’s been a struggle to put it down. All my PBs over last 2 years have come from a jig. Maybe not as many bites, but the when they do bite, they are typically larger than normal.
Thanks for all your hard work. I just caught my first jig fish last weekend and im hooks she was my best fish of the year . I definitely need help with them though I still not confident in them yet as much as I want to be can’t wait to see the in depth seminar
Looking forward to the long form on jigs. The jig has been my most productive tournament bait for years. I've found that 4 fish caught on a jig will weigh more than 5 on most other baits. Fishing a jig takes a lot of confidence, you generally don't get a lot of bites.
Wow. That explains why I didn’t catch anything when I used it the other day. I had absolutely no confidence in it so I just kept switching it on and then back off after maybe 3-10 casts for something I DID have more confidence in and yet still only caught 1 freshwater drum after an entire day on the kayak. I guess I’m gonna have to put some faith into the jig lol
I appreciate your help on the jig.I’ve listened to you on your past videos on jig fishing it helped me.i live on Lanier I know you fished tournament’s her.
I agree with Randy on the trailer, I prefer a chunk over other soft plastics and most people rig a chunk backwards. The part that bulges out should be down, on the bottom.
@@zachg5356 I got 9 on Sunday in 4 hours on a 3/8 oz jig with a rage menace trailer. Best 5 weighed 15 with a 5 lb kicker. It was a magical experience! I will never forget it!
@@collector_effectors hell yeah dude. Great day for sure. Those days are the best. I had 1 similar in june/July. 2 hours 7 bass, 2 on the frog 5 on the curlytail worm. And a new 7 lbs PB.
Grew up fishing the SD river bottom before the homeless took it over. When I started fishing jig and pigs the size of the bass kept getting bigger and bigger. Used to double up size 11 uncle Josh pork
Would like your thoughts on hookset. I’ve heard different pros known for their jig fishing have different opinions on setting the hook right away, or letting them hold on to it.
I’m one of these people. Although I have lost 2 of the biggest fish I’ve ever hooked on a jig. I can’t keep the good ones pinned. I prefer Texas rig with punch skirt.
Loving the hat!!!😁 Loving the tip😎 I'm going to give it a try Randy😃 Great tips and stories and rants and hater comments in the now famous "Tackle Room"🏆
I have a lot of jigs in different colors. All of them will catch, but for whatever reason, regardless of conditions, black and blue always seems to outperform anything else. It's not just jigs either. Everything except jerk baits and crank baits is dominated by the black and blue. In clear conditions, the translucent jerks and cranks are just money almost all of the time. But any other time, black and blue, and Junebug just always produces. Something about the dark color just gets noticed better.
Hi Randy! I took your advice and picked up some Vision oneten Silents (Stain reaction, Elegy Bone, and Tennessee Shad since I fish Old Hickory most of the time.. Weekend tournament fishing mainly. I am pre-fishing next Sunday and doing a benefit tournament on the 28th. I live in Hendersonville, TN I can’t figure a way to send the screenshot of our weather to this post but could you offer some advice? You know Old Hickory/ Cumberland river is always low visibility. Any help is much appreciated sir.. Rich
Randy, so when you say Texas rig, what bait are you referring too? Thank you! We fished jigs last yesterday and caught some nice bass! Tried a few other lures but jigs are what caught most of the fish.
Bulkier appearance of the bait to the fish with a skirt on it, it looks like a bigger meal to a bigger fish. You can throw a skirt on a Texas rig too and make it just like a jig.
I agree completely, quality fish be on jigs with less bites, newbies don't like fishing them because only might get 10 bites a day when they can catch all the dinks they want throwing a crankbait, spinnerbait, etc
Guys I’m going to jump in on this one and tell everyone the truth about jigs. They don’t get enough bites to keep people fishing them. They also are not nearly as versatile as soft plastics. Fish also need to be pretty aggressive to strike a jig. Yes they do catch quality fish but definitely not all the time. Plenty small fish eat jigs too. I say commit to it if they are eating it that day. Or pick it up when you’ve already got at least 3 other fish on the boat. I’ve always used them and always will but you have to know when to leave it alone. Also when you watch all the pro tournaments they are rarely throwing jigs compared to other baits. So we’ve all been told to just throw jigs for big fish but the pros are using all these other baits besides jigs. We know this because we get to see what they are doing on video now!!
Kids, take note of how he didn't holler and yell. He behaved as if it wasn't his first big fish, or that it would be his last. That's how professionals conduct business.

Looking forward to this upcoming extended jig video.
I struggle and am one of those guys who needs the help!
Thnx for all the tips RB!
7min of pure gold!!!
The jig & trailer is my #1 confidence bait for quality fish when the conditions are tough
Jig is my confidence bait! Love my black and green pumpkin

Went last night and couldn't feel fish bite but saw line move.
I always end up with my jig rod in my hand. Can’t wait for the seminar, thanks Randy!
Couldn't agree more

Great tips and looking forward to watching the seminar!!! Thanks Randy! :)
Excellent video. I have been using your guides on jigs. I have learned so much. The jig is quickly becoming my favorite. Thank you Randy.
Will the seminar come out on this channel? I don’t want to miss it. Jigs are one of my favorite ways to catch ‘em!

I'm pumped about the jig seminar!
Looking forward to seeing the jig seminar. 👍
good info, I'm learning about jigs, haven't got bite yet but trying as many color combinations and trailers, 👍

You got me throwing a jig and now it's my #1 confidence bait!
Just pulled one on the jig today. Slowed it down and used Randy's chunk trailer.

Thank you, this was helpfull.
Thanks for another great video
I have really been getting into jig fishing.. this past year I saw a definite change in the fish.. and learning that feel.

All it takes is put it in your hand , and don’t put it down , can’t wait for this jig seminar
My reference for home is black root beer water , clear black , black and blue jig ; muddy water brown water , some type of brown and orange jig

Man you really like those blue chunks on a lot of different colors

I've started pouring my own swimbait jigs. Been wondering which Do It jig molds I should be getting multiples of. Looking forward to it!

Randy is on top of this you can bet on it

Man I want to catch a fish on jigs so bad, I love that style of fishing but I have caught less than 5 fish in my entire life on a jig!
Good stuff. Why are the bass bigger when using a jig?

And I love jig videos
Info starts at 1:44
I do suck at jigs. I can catch them on Texas rigs all day, but I tie a jig on and there is just something about it.
Honestly I don't understand how ppl say they don't know how a jig bite feels... that THUMP is undeniable or ur line takes off to the side
Great video also

Randy: I really appreciate the tone of the title. I’m not sure why it matters to me, but wanted to make sure you got some positive feedback on it. 👍🏼
Where are these products to click on ?
It's the opposite for me, I have 100% confidence in a jig but zero confidence in a trig
LET'S GO

Nah.. my biggest problem is.. it gets caught in grass. Every damn time lol.
Switch to a worm in grass - it’s more steam lined
Yea certain lakes you can’t hardly throw a jig for all the sediment on the bottom, agree totally on the worm in those lakes
In my opinion you can get better at jig fishing but people who are great at it just have it naturally. Jig fishing is my weakest technique
Please, for the love of God, make the comprehensive jig video!

Any lure will work as long as it’s a green pumpkin baby boo jig with a green pumpkin smally beaver.
