Work commitments have meant no progress on the loft layout and now I have a bit more free time the temperatures in the loft have dropped. I took the wall paneling down in September & now it's as cold & drafty as Flamborough Head up there. In my spare time I've started experimenting with my new airbrush and compressor - here are the results................

Great fun building a new layout but always great to see ones like this that are in a more advanced state of development. Weathering looks great, thanks for sharing, ATB, Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for your comment, much appreciated. The shot at the end of the goods sidings will be soon gone, it will disappear as part of the extension. I seem to be going backwards at the moment ! Andy.

@St Mary Church Model Railway Hi Stuart & thanks for your comment. Not quite a tutorial but a "film it and see"😁 it was my first time with the airbrush, I was quite lucky it all went to plan. Cheers, Andy

Hi Andy, great job with the decals and weathering, when applying decals I firstly apply a light coat of matt varnish slightly smaller than the decal and apply the decal while the varnish is still wet.
    Take care Andy

Hi Andy, don't know how I missed this. I've used the black paint wash technique on some of my 7 plank wagons, results were similar to yours, quite pleased with the results. I had the same problem with decals moving around, apparently a matt varnish before using the black wash helps to fix them in place. I'm impressed with your airbrush skills, much better than mine. Keep up the good work, hope to hear from you soon mate. All the best, Kev

Hi Kev, hope you are well & thanks for watching. I'm glad you could use some of the tips in this vid, yes, Michael @ WestBlythMPD mentioned the matt varnish, good advise 👍I'm working on weathering a rake of PGA wagons at the moment, the airbrush work is slowly getting better :)
I should be gettig started on the new layout this Spring, varoius obstacles have hindered my progress so I'm really looking forward to finally getting some track down ! All the best......Andy

Thanks Darren, I'm a beginner to this weathering thing and I'm pleased how things turned out. Still a lot to learn though so I'm working on some new stuff now. As far as I'm aware my layout hasn't been in any mag :) All the best.......Andy

Brilliant Andy I am looking for a stock of Railfreight wagons so this is a great way of doing it - what air brush & compressor do you use ?
    Cheers Kev

Thanks Kev, I'm a big fan of the railfreight wagons & have been extending my stock over the last few months. My main airbrush is an aerograph sprite (quite an old model I think but a goodie !) and my compressor is a Fengda 18-2 I picked up from Amazon. Seems to work very well. Cheers, Andy
