I've just adopted three of these guys from someone who had been sold them for an unsuitable tank. They are so lovely, I will definitely get 7 more to get a nice group. They do hang out with my harlequin rasbora but they are getting a bit aggressive and hide now and then. Thanks for the knowledge 👍
Are they prone to jumping? I have a riparium-style tank, currently only inhabited by bottom feeders, but it's not a very dynamic tank to look at with this stocking :D. So I was thinking what would be a good fish to add some colour and movement, and these have such beautiful colours.
I've had my glow light danios for about 8 months. They colors faded after a day I got them. I'm guessing due to my hard water and higher ph. I've never had live plants before but the other day I added guppy grass. Omg the colors went off the charts. One of them is a very deep green color
I have 12 of these coming on tuesday. Im sooooo excited. I finally found a place online that had some. I have flake that ill crush up very small, slow sinking micro pellets and those might even be to big. Freeze dried blood worms ill have to crush up and hopefully they can get some before they hit the bottom and panda corys gobble them up. Im going to order some Repashy community gel mix as well. Am I missing another type of food it might need?
I haven't had much luck with repashy unless very fine particles of it slowly sink. Crushed flake, crushed blood worms do well. Instant brine shrimp they love. You can also just put a tiny bit of repashy dry mix in there and they like that, plus it's good for and baby cherry shrimp if you have them. They love floating plants. Their eyes are very light sensitive and it tends to stress them and won't school very well. They need a LOT of room to swim. Heavy planting is ideal. I got mine from The Wet Spot in Oregon and I live in FL. They all arrived alive and still living. They're a very shy fish as well. I love mine. How are you doing with yours? I keep mine with honey guaramis and panda corys
thx a lot for your vids Rachel, bought 10 of these and they are simply awesome.. I was thinking of these or the kubotai, glad I got them... soo awesome. Keep the profiles coming
Yours are so yellow! Mine are much darker in body colour with blue vertical bars and orange stripes. Edit: I've just noticed that mine have very long barbels, I think mine might actually be D. flagrans as I've not seen D. choprae with such long barbels.
Why can't i see the yellow body of them in my display tank. I could see the yellow when they were in quarantine with no light on the tank other than a tall floor lamp near the tank. My display tank has a stingray led and an aqueon glass lid. Any help is appreciated! Do i need a different light or remove the lid? I have amanos with them so a lid is ideal for preventing escapes and to prevent rapid evaportation. Pls help I love these guys. Had them for several months to a year. tank has a black background and black substrate. Just them and the amanos. I have 14 of them
Would these be suitable for a hillstream setup with 15-20 turnover? It seems most danios are, but I have never heard of these. I also like the orange finned danios, but these guys are really pretty
I see these a lot on the West Coast - never had them though. So many new fish coming out of Myanmar (formerly Burma) since trade has opened up. Lets hope the country doesn't slash and burn like other countries have done. And why do you only have 6500 subscribers?! Your videos are amazing in every way!! People, tell your friends!!
+Catfish Cave ha, probably because I am only a few months in on really trying with youtube. Used to be that I Just uploaded stuff to have to embed in my presentations. Took me a bit to realize what i could really offer. The growth has been huge! I am so appreciative!
I just bought 7 albino danios for my 110. I have 3 Cory cats, 10 angels, and 3 giant dianos. Do you reccomend I get more? Would zebra danios school with my albino?
Hey rachel. From this video, I conclude they are good for a hillstream community setup? Asking this because their fellow genus mates (margaritatus/erythromicron) are pretty small, do not school tightly and especially do not enjoy water flow that's too strong.
These are stunning! I was trying to think of other choices of fish for a now empty tank that held my betta, Bob. It's 20 G tall so lots of space to play. I was thinking Cherry Barbs but they don't play well with many others so I was looking for alternate options that won't get nippy. I'd really like to have otocinclus in the tank but I guess otos should go in before Danios? Or won't it matter?
I love these little guys! I had four that were mislabeled as ember tetras at an lfs, but I lost three and just have one. I'm gonna look around for some more locally, but if I don't find any I'll definitely make an order from you!
Love your videos, all sorts of good info. Watching these species spotlight always makes me wanna setup another new tank, not sure if thats a good or bad thing yet
hi rachael, i would love to see some petruichthys species being discussed, great video btw, are there any 'less boistress fish' availible that are very good schoolers?
+Kieran Gray Petruichtys are without a doubt one of my favorites, hands down. I featured Brevibora dorsiocellata a few weeks ago. Not flashy, not fancy- but total awesome sauce for behavior.
Rachel, I love the glow light danios I got from you. About what age do they start breeding? Also in my tank they swim everywhere right now with little to no schooling behavior. I have them with Pearl Dianos, some Trigonostigma Espei, and an albino weather loach. Your video and another video they show great schooling behavior. I do hope to breed these little guys. Love your videos, thanks.
It is more size then age, when you can tell that females are fatter- they are ready to breed, usually around an inch. Try and manipulate your filter so there is a bit of a direcitonal push and htey should school better for you.
I just got one and I love it. I originally put it in my 29 gallon with my leopard danio but my juvenile bluegill tried to eat it so I had to move it to me 5.5 gallon.
Flipping Amazing! So Got To Get One Of These For My 10 Gallon, So Colourful and Can School With Tetras and Zebra Danios! Can't Wait To Get One But I Need Your Help...
A bit offtopic with the video, but do you perchance know if the rummynose tetra is near threatened, vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered in the wild?
+Jacob “GreenGo” Green which one? there are three types of rummynose. AFAIK, there are only a couple characins listed on the cares list, which can be found in this group: C.A.R.E.S. Preservation
I kind of like the new Glofish blackskirts...just under normal grow lux lighting they stand out. One I saw was yellow with a blue nose..might go back to get that. I bought a couple of pinkish for the grandaughter to love..ha. She does. Hey,my 240 is better habitat for fish always raised in breeder tanks and not collected in the wild. I may get a school of the little fellers. The Danio Glo's are a bit small. But in a small tank..you could watch them from the other side of a room! yeah, bright.
Oh ok. Have you tried the GMO fish? Takes pressure off wild fish..I think. I might go back for the yellow with blue nose..so wild. And really- I have them mixing with a 20 school amount of tan Rosy Minnows,Bleeding hearts in a half dozen,Colombian tetra's too. My version of tank isn't exactly pure-lol. But..it does have all natural plants,sand,..driftwood. So,not quite as garish as it might have sounded. Thanks!
I don't think that is where she keeps them. I believe she uses this to give us close ups of the fish. You can see at the end of the video the little hanging tank that she uses for this.
you sold me on these, but since they wouldn't be suitable for the low flow blackwater tank i'm planning, i guess i'll have to get another tank afterwards 😂 now to research tankmates!
Would these be a good option for keeping with shrimp? And stop intimidating Sean...the poor fella is stuttering and stammering over there on his channel...LOL
+ShelbyRae Lane hahaha. Sean will tell you I am super approachable and easy to talk to. Who knew my name would be such a challenge! These fish would eat baby shrimp but are a better choice then many as the tend to stay very top water
ok help me out here...I have a 40 breeder with mixes of Sakura, Painted Red, and culled Blody Mary shrimp...6 Albino Farlowellas (pretty but very unentertaining and not too bright) I want something that will actually swim around actively...and have some bright color also...what would you suggest?
yes...plenty of places for the shrimp to hide...but they've been a species only tank for over 6 months so they are always out and about and unafraid...even the itty bittys...the top has a lot of floating cover also...guppy grass and hornwort..a lot of mosses in the bottom and growing on driftwood branches...willow moss, christmas moss, flame moss and I have some really thick and fluffy christmas garland around the sides and back of the tank
+ShelbyRae Lane the thing with anything too tiny (and most shrimp safe ) is that they tend to get lost in a big tank unless you put a lot. I love the choprae, but ruby tetras or green neon are more petite and may be worth a shot
Great to discover new fish, and what a bonus that they are colourful AND hardy. Thanks Rachel.
I love these little fish -- the color, yes, but their attitude + behavior -- and the feeding frenzy they go in to!!!
I had just found this fish and was looking around for some dependable information about them I am so glad you made this post. Thank you.

@racheal how many of those species only can I put in my 55 gallon I want a very large school ?
Rachel, you may like danio tinwini, since you like small active fish. I hope to see a species spotlight on them!
Hey Rachel. Thanks for another great video. love the Choprae. Can you make a spotlight on indostomus crocodilus? cheers!
Nice video Rachel O'leary!

It may be the quality of light

Rachael I have a empty 20gal how many can I put in it
Hi Rachel, great channel! Posted on another video on dwarf cichlids. Can these work with a dwarf cichlid, and 3 lemon cichlid and 3 daffodils?
Hey rachel. From this video, I conclude they are good for a hillstream community setup? Asking this because their fellow genus mates (margaritatus/erythromicron) are pretty small, do not school tightly and especially do not enjoy water flow that's too strong.
I had glowlights, but unfortunately lost all but 2 after an ick outbreak. Beautiful fish.
have you had any jumpers? I setting up a 75 gallon shallow open top heavy planted riparium... I don't want any on the carpet...
Have you bred them? Video?
These are stunning! I was trying to think of other choices of fish for a now empty tank that held my betta, Bob. It's 20 G tall so lots of space to play. if the tank is mature, the order is not important :)
Thanks for sharing.
How healthy is the wild population?
I love these little guys! I had four that were mislabeled as ember tetras at an lfs, but I lost three and just have one. I'm gonna look around for some more locally, but if I don't find any I'll definitely make an order from you!
I've had these fish for close to a year now I think, I had 10, I now have 8 but I've never seen them school like this in a tetra danio community tank.
Love your videos, all sorts of good info. Watching these species spotlight always makes me wanna setup another new tank, not sure if thats a good or bad thing yet
+Kyle Paeth I guess that depends on if you have space to sneak in another!
hi rachael, i would love to see some petruichthys species being discussed, great video btw, are there any 'less boistress fish' availible that are very good schoolers?
+Kieran Gray Petruichtys are without a doubt one of my favorites, hands down. I featured Brevibora dorsiocellata a few weeks ago. Not flashy, not fancy- but total awesome sauce for behavior.
+Rachel O'leary, yes, i remember them, i need something for a 20-30 gallon long, so they are perfect! thanks

So glad I watched this, hope I can find these beauty schoolers here in the wet coast.. i mean west coast of Canada 😉. Thank you Rachel!
Guys so I bought 4 GlowLight Dinios. However, one of the hides away from the other Dinios. Any ideas?
was just thinking what my focus would be for my next fish room- this ranked at top 3 so far :) i'd be interested in hearing about breeding
+aleko11 SO rewarding to breed. I will do a follow up when I set up my outside bins, but i got hundreds of fry from a few fish last year
+Rachel O'leary love your vids !
Beautiful!!!👍👍💗
Flipping Amazing! So Got To Get One Of These For My 10 Gallon, So Colourful and Can School With Tetras and Zebra Danios! Can't Wait To Get One But I Need Your Help...
I think I am in love. I will read to know if they can make great tankmate with my shrimp 😅
Love these fish are you still shipping fish
Can you recommend. Cooler water fish
Another great video. Might be too common but how about a species spotlight on Pearl Danios or Giant Danios?
+snakehead36 it isn't that they are common, i just tend to stick to fish under 2" and over 2 feet

These are a naturally occurring fish! Pesky common names

The hair's looking good today ;). I wonder if I can get those fish here in New Zealand, they look amazing.
You can get them in NZ, I'm getting 7 tomorrow :)
+dantheairconman oh cool
Can the Glowlight Danio be kept with a Gold Ram Cichlid.
+Howard G depends on how warm you are keeping your Rams
What would you say are your top 5 nano fish?
+Cam Wong that would make for a good video!
;) Looking forward to it!!
Did you do it?
any recommendations for how many I could keep in a 20 long
+Joseph Pinkston at the very least 12+
The water seems full of dust that is too bad considering the beauty of those fish! they are my absolute favs!!
I don't think that is where she keeps them. I believe she uses this to give us close ups of the fish. You can see at the end of the video the little hanging tank that she uses for this.
+Montserrath Mendoza xorrect, and it was micro bubbles
I know it is a display tank just for the video, I was just saying that it was unfortunate. Micro bubbles you say?
you sold me on these, but since they wouldn't be suitable for the low flow blackwater tank i'm planning, i guess i'll have to get another tank afterwards 😂 now to research tankmates!
Ok so their is a zebra danio and leopard danio. How come they are not called tiger danios
Nice Video CRAZY lady!
I'm going to add it to one of my offerings at AquaBid.
why are they so expensive??
+Countryboysmoker420 expensive is really relative. I think they are pretty cheap, really. A few dollars each, and totally breedable.
can you sell me some?
Love these. Fish
I want some of these so bad!!!!
another fantaaaaaastic vid :)
So obviously they are tropical. Shame, I only have a coldwater tank, and these look gorgeous.
Would these be a good option for keeping with shrimp? And stop intimidating Sean...the poor fella is stuttering and stammering over there on his channel...LOL

the are also in bangladesh
I just saw these in my fish store, i saw their name “glowlight” and immediedtaly thought it was injected with ink like the othe glow light fish
That is my grandmother catch that😂
One fish for 10MMK
Bit like zebra fish
lol just zoom out
