I lived in Jackson heights for nine years, before I moved to Miami, about a month ago I brought my family to New York for the second time, my wife and daughters love it... On our way back to the airport I got off at 74 & Roosevelt ave, then I walked all the way to LaGuardia airport by myself, it was nostalgic walking around the streets, lots of memories, it was a long walk, but I enjoyed it.
So this time a real comment. It‘s obvious you love NYC and that’s why these video are so interesting, you are invested in what is going on and not just presenting the glam of the city. In the end it‘s the people that make a city, and those neighborhoods are just as central to the heart and vibe of the city as all the famous spots in Manhattan, many of which have morphed into tourist traps. Cool video and of course nice work by Phil as well. Cheers!
I love Jackson Heights! My favorite place in NYC . I love the diversity there!! I was pretty sure you would love it there also 🗽✌️😍Thank you ,Tom! And Phil also !
Bro , you just know when to entertain us when we need it. Thnks brother. Been hit with back to back hardships . And this video helped me pmant myself and forget about those hardships for a bit
When I visited NYC, pre-pandemic , I stayed at an AIRBNB not far from the train station where Tom started. I loved the neighborhood. Heard all kinds of languages yet it seemed like a regular town...people taking care of their gardens, walking kids to school, strolling down the sidewalks...etc. It was cool to "return" via this video. Thanks.
Cool tour.. my mom lived in Jackson Heights for a while. She loved being close to the #7 train because it takes you right into Manhattan, and it was a great place for her to get away from the secluded neighborhood of Borough Park, Brooklyn... very religious Jewish neighborhood, and it allowed her to form her own identity.
I am from Guyana and have been living in JH since 2002. The garden co-ops and pre-war buildings on 35th and 34th Aves. are beautiful and equally a nice walk as well, especially the side streets. There are also some good restaurants along Northern Blvd. Please come visit again :).
Fantastic video Tom...now you are showing not only the real NYC (and by "real" I mean fun, warm, and best heart),you are showing what this country used to be everywhere.Diversity at it's finest in language and cuisine.I'm sure that I'm not the only one watching this with an abundant amount of hope for our future and nostalgia to slow down and appreciate our past. These are the true neighborhoods of NYC,always have been and always will be.This is where my heart is,thank you so much.
Tom, you are a true pleasure to watch. Great knowledge and information delivered in an approachable and fun and snappy style! You’re the best NYC vlogger for sure! Keep it up!
This tour went through the lively, gritty, and more diverse parts of Jackson Heights, but the prewar coops that are a bit north and east of where you strolled are quite pretty and classic. An interesting juxtaposition of European-style architecture with the modern and uglier buildings along Roosevelt and 37th Avenue.
Thank you for the awesome tour of my hometown Jackson Heights! I’m so impressed you didn’t miss the story about the Jackson Diner. When you passed it the first time, (you were across the street), I thought if he talks about the Jackson Diner I’ll be impressed. Then you did, on the way back. Nice job. ❤️
I love that, just like New York, Tom's RUclips channel is a multicultural meeting place for curious people all across the world. Glad to be a Patreon Tom, you deserve it!
NIce job, Tom. you captured all of Jackson Heights greatest hits - the same ones I show people when they venture out of the mighty Manhattan to see deepest, mysterious Queens. And Lasha momo's are the best - I've tasted many. I live across from the Scrabble sign. Next time look up and shout out "Sick Plug" and I'll wave out the window.
Thank you for this tour!! I grew up on 86th street, went to school a couple of blocks away from Roosevelt, and haven’t seen this neighborhood for twelve years. Jackson Heights I miss dearly 💕🥲
I lived on 89th street between 37th & Roosevelt avenues between 1985 & 1989. Back then when I lived in Jackson Heights, it was prodominently Colombian. Now, today it's so diverse and it looks great!
Jackson Hts is the best. My old stomping ground in the 80s and 90s. Diversity of people, culture, food, etc, etc. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting NYC
If you ever decide to visit South Africa, I'll be waiting at the Airport and gladly give you a tour of my city, Johannesburg. Love you Channel Tom! keep on doing what you're doing!
Very good video. I have Jackson Heights earmarked for our second visit to NYC when borders and travel are opened back up again. We saw the main sites of Manhattan on our first visit from the UK but next time want to see the real New York. Also planning to walk around Williamsburg, Bushwick, Long Island City among others. Inspired by Tom’s videos plus those of Action Kid, Sarah Funk, Walk Ride Fly and Manny Explores. Thank you for your work.
I remember standing on a chilly corner in Jackson Heights enjoying an arepa from Arepa Lady! Went to the restaurant for Valentine's Day one year too. Good memories!
I grew up in Jackson Heights and know John Leguizamo personally from being a part of the feature film industry for the last 20 yrs,I remember when the first Pakistani families started moving in during the 70's,there also used to be a Lord and Taylor on 82st and 37ave and a Sears on 78st and Roosevelt Ave that as a kid I'd go shopping with my mom, there also used to be a lot of good pizza shops in these areas,I miss the old Jackson Heights but embrace the change,I love the food diversity, habits like the spitting on the floor I can live without. Alas I don't live in Jackson Heights anymore but my memories of traveling the 7 train to Shea Stadium will last a lifetime. That's for the tour/video.
Queens looks awesome with all those different food options! I bet it would be hard to find half of them in Seattle. Also, i love the editing with Scrabble tiles!! 😆 Great video, Tom (and Phil)!
@@tomdnyc1 Yes, we know quite a bit about over-processed coffee water at sky high prices. 😆 The only thing Starbucks is good for is semi-clean restrooms.
Thanks for this Tom! I'm teaching a course on the Sociology of Cities and Suburbs focused on NYC that would usually do a field trip to NYC (from Fairfield, CT) but with covid we can't do it, so I stumbled on this video and it was an excellent alternative to actually being able to take a group of students on a walking tour. I also loved that you offered fantastic historical context about NYC, really A+ stuff!
My area!!!! i lives on 82nd street and 34th ave from 2003 to 2011. love the area love the diversity. biggest mistake i ever made was not buying a coop when i had the chance. it probably has tripled in price now. Tom your videos are amazing.
glad to see you branch out to the other boroughs. I forgot that there was a Jahns in Queens. The Bronx location closed many years ago, is now a NYC library. Which leads me to suggest some Bronx videos ie Poe Park/cottage, Fordham RD to Little Italy, or City Island visit the Black Whale cafe.
Great video. I would definitely recommend checking out the documentary In Jackson Heights which gives an insight into some of the diverse communities in the neighbourhood. It's great too.
Wow! Thanks for the video. Going down memory lane. Grew up there. Left over 12 yrs ago and haven't been back. I lived on 84th st. Got my haricuts as a kid through my college days at Sal's on 76th st (now EJs?) At 7:32. Did a lot of eating from the area 74th street to 84th right along your route on 37th ave. Also use to trek to Elmhurst for Chinese food too. I spent some summers attending summer programs at that methodist church in that basement as a kid! Didn't even know that's where scrabble was invented.
I’ve lived in Jackson Heights for 5 years. Just to be a little specific... There are a lot of Colombians living here. Traditionally Jackson Heights has been famous for Indians and South Asian communities and it still has that. There are tons of different communities here. But it seems to me that the largest immigrant community is from Colombia. You walked from 74th to 82nd. But Jackson Heights extends for 15 to 20 blocks past 82nd. If anyone wants to try some amazing Colombian food or see one of the largest Colombian communities outside of Colombia, come to Jackson Heights. Just one of the reasons I love this neighborhood. Thanks for your video
I grew up in Jackson Heights I could tell you stories of what was there before all the new stores there!! Great tour. I grew up on 90th Street between 37th and Rooosevelt.
I also watch your videos a lot Actionkid! You give us a lot more information especially about Astoria Queens where I live as a kid in the 1970s up until 1981!
Its cause of ActionKid driving on his bicycle that I heard of Tom.!!! Hey Tom - I want a Rubik's cube as well - just kidding, I already have one and just get frustrated.
I am 76 and I enjoy your trips. I was planning to visit nyc once again and I couldn’t because of this damn virus. But when I go I’ll certainly pay a visit to the arepa lady place to have an arrow like the one you had . 🇨🇱
Tom is the best NYC guide in my view. He is Funny N informative N hip/cool N Cute (no homo) N n N... i ran out of MORE things cuz his last CHECK bounced... (jokes) But yea, another excellent tour Mr. T right in Jackson Heights (didn't REALIZE it was most diverse until he mentioned some FACTS) Me, being a south asian descent frequent grocery shopper, i specifically come to this area for my traditional food grocery shopping.. i ENVY PPL who live in J.Heights because it's where most of south asian community is & all our traditional groceries/food/restaurants are here plus lot of cheap fruit/veggies in the area (very competative 82nd street Roosevelt) on big religous/cultural holidays this place is booming, giviing nostaglic no room because it's here, right in your backyard. So as a result of this, price of housing in this area has GONE UP, bigly. So, I am always dreaming to get a apartment in this area... one day i shall find that spot in J.H... one day.
What an excellent video you've done. Superb!!! One of the best videos on Utube. U shud get an award from Utube. I'm a Canadian from Montreal, Quebec. Appreciate your excellent job with this video, keep up the good work. 🇨🇦🇺🇸🇮🇳
my mother grew up in Jackson Heights. Born Dec. 30 1964. (Flushing Hospital). Grew up in Cali. it's fun to see all of this. Clearly, things have changed (for the better) in the last 50+ years. thanks so much for this video.
One more video where Tom show us the unknown neighborhood of new York where probably so much tourists don't go. It's amazing to see the rich culture of people of different countries there to realize your dreams. Your videos are culturally rich without tiring, cos you put some humor inside. You deserve much likes and subscribers. 👏👏👏
I miss living in Jackson Heights Tom. Best walking town for residents who love different cultures and the food that goes along with that. Took a stand up comedy class with you many moons ago. Best of luck, you are hilarious!
I used to live in Flushing not far from there. It was the nicest apartment I had in New York, but my roommate was a psycho, who would watch me sleep. I started barricading my bedroom door with a computer desk from that point on.
Hello Tomas, very cool. We live in Jackson Heights. The next time you are in the J Hood, come over for a home cooked dinner, very good red wine, very, very good scotch, if you are inclined and lots of original, very colorful art , music and conversation. Daniel and Yona

I had no idea that Scrabble was born in NYC, let alone Queens. The things you learn in a Tom Delgado video! Cheers from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Its a hard scrabbleneighborhood...
I love Jackson Heights! My favorite place in NYC . I love the diversity there!! I was pretty sure you would love it there also 🗽✌️😍Thank you ,Tom! And Phil also !

@u i live there. there are but thankfully, few and far between.
Real racists see racism everywhere

I'm glad it could help some. Hope you are well!
Well....finally!!!....my old neighborhood...people never understood why I loved it si much...thanks for the love!
I love the look at the "everyday" parts of New York. Thanks.

Phil phorever. We love Phil.
I miss living in Jackson Heights Tom. Best walking town for residents who love different cultures and the food that goes along with that. Took a stand up comedy class with you many moons ago. Best of luck, you are hilarious!
Fell into this video somehow, I’m from queens and never knew half of this historical information. Love your take on this!
Thanks Tom and Phil! Great walk
I don't know what to tell ya......this was another wicked awesome video!!
Pretty nice. looks like walthamstow area of london. nice architecture above shops. must smell good.
Another gem Tom. Love the videos brother. 👍
I used to live in Flushing not far from there. It was the nicest apartment I had in New York, but my roommate was a psycho, who would watch me sleep. I started barricading my bedroom door with a computer desk from that point on.
Yikes.
Hello Tomas, very cool. We live in Jackson Heights. The next time you are in the J Hood, come over for a home cooked dinner, very good red wine, very, very good scotch, if you are inclined and lots of original, very colorful art , music and conversation.
Daniel and Yona
I remember this area when I used to live in Woodside, not too far from Jackson Heights, I used to walk home (long walk home) from that stop of the 7 train, If my memory serves me right it was the 61st st. stop, anyway it was full of people from India and Bangladesh back in the 80's all the way through the early 2000's, I see from this video it's a bit more diverse now, I miss New York sometimes, lucky for me it's just a 2 hour flight back to my home town. Very knowledgeable, I have been living in Jackson Heights since 2012, but I didn't know many of things u r talking about.
