Great job, King! Real nice day and darn nice fish, man. We love the flutter jigs and fish them with a pair of single point assist hooks at the front. Doesn't eliminate bottom snags but it certainly minimizes them! Thanks for posting, most enjoyable!
That treble hook on the bottom leads me to think that there's less chance of missed strikes. Time will tell, but I didn't have a single fish come unbuttoned, which is pretty typical when using swim baits, lots of tail biting is the rule. So I think I learned something. Save the swimbaits for when you are fishing rocky snaggy spots... We'll see...
@@kingslew1866 Lots of effective ways to go about it, for sure. We rig the front hooks to reach about half-way down the jig's body. Can't say that we have never missed a fish, but it has not been a problem for us on any of the rockfish or lings. You're having fun and putting fish in the freezer, no need to change it up unless you like to experiment!
Living the good life sir! I always enjoy your videos. I had to search for this one even though I'm subbed. Thanks for sharing your world with us. I'm a landlocked Wisconsinite so I settle for bass walleye and panfish.
Thanks Fishin Fool! Man I love a big pile of crappie. It's been years since I've had a mess of crappie. Miss it. Don't fish trout anymore like I used to either, it's just too easy to drag the boat down to the Marina and fish the reef and the ocean... Thanks for watching, means a lot...
Nice to you out again! Looks like the jig paid off! They can be deadly! Looking to make it over soon and hit the big pond myself. Happy fishing and safe boating.
Nice Video. Looks like you picked a calm day. I have a new to me 20 ft. Hewes PRO V-ET that I would like to do some crabbing and explore some rock fishing with. Yaquina seems as safe as any. How far out beyond the tips do you have to go to find some decent fishing? Do you prefer the swim bait to the hard jig or do they both work? Can you catch them inside along the jetties or is it too snaggy? Thanks for sharing and Fish on!
Thanks! You've got 12 miles of reef in both directions, north & south and then a couple more miles of structure south as well as north. Essentially, the whole coast is fishable. When you find the fish they aren't too picky. Very aggressive biters. Yes, you can catch inside the jetties...
Good video. Been waiting for another one to come along. Question I have a 16ft aluminum boat do you think that is bigg enough to go out there or should i just stay in the bay and fish and crab. Never took a boat in the ocean before. Just was a second passanger on many.
I think you'll be fine on the right days. Just be sure to have a good Danforth anchor with a few yards of chain and a couple hundred feet of anchor line, a good VHF radio (handheld will do) and your cell phone with the CG on speed dial. This will allow you to anchor and stay out of the surf and off of the beach until help arrives. The CG is just minutes away and they won't mind helping you out...
Great job Jerry! That new jig was on point for sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if you hooked an incidental salmon here and there while deploying that one.
Yeah Nick, if there were any around. We're kind of waiting for the wind to blow and bring the upwelling that heralds the arrival of the salmon. There were a few kings around earlier, like there always is...
@@kingslew1866 have you ever tried candy bar sliders black Halloween in 5- and 7-inch swim baits? just a few places online that sells them. the 5 inches are a 1.30 and the 7 are 2.79 I have had good luck on them for lings.
It's always a pleasure to watch the wise old fisherman on the hunt. Calm and methodical with no wasted moves, slaying fish! Thanks, King.
Thanks Steve!
Fun to watch!
I love my Minn Kota trolling motor with spot lock. It keeps you right on the fish.
I don't mind the drift...
