I would say that's not Walsh in the harmonies. Walsh's vocals had this intense ring up high. I've studied Walsh's early year's vocals and he was right up there with the best of them.
I would be standing the whole time -up front!!! I’d become like King David...very undignified, lol. I love John Elefante, his heart shines through his beautiful and unique voice. Band did a great job too. Way to go! A fan fo-eva!
my father and john were best friends growing up and i remember when i was younger he would always tell me stories about him and how funny he was and all the silly things they did together. they were both born and raised in lakewood california, and they were always very close until we had moved to northern minnesota. My dad hasn’t gotten a call from john in about 15 years now and it really breaks his heart but john is an amazing man!
I was there too .. John's Dad, Danny, was the coach of my little league team in Lakewood .. I grew up with John, Dino, Skip .. Nora their Mom, actually called some ladies in New York to "check out" the guys in KISS because I had auditioned for them .. I was a roadie for them .. I used to walk across Heartwell Park and go to their Studio in the garage and hang out .. years .. I became an accomplished guitarist with many pros on my resume' and I have always hoped he would call and ask me to come record something with him :'(
I couldn't find any evidence that J. Elefante was in the Boston band. But, Michael Sweet played for Boston from about 2008 to 2011. And Elefante started his career with Kansas in 1981. Later, he (and his brother) had there own Christian band called Mastedon.
I use to listen to this song in bars before I found Christ. I use to relate to it so much. Now I hear it and understand the pull of God and how lonely we are without him. It's bittersweet because of all my experiences before Christ at the time seemed so important...and now I can see how dark and lost I was...its awesome watching him perform it knowing where he is now spirituality
John and his brother have a very signature production style. You hear a song they produced and you instantly know it's them. Not to mention John's talent as a singer.
I can't believe how the people just sit there, like they're dead!!! I'd be up on my feet, Raising He*l with KANSAS! Just Absolutely Love these guys! ❤️💙❤️
This was taped a church so most of the people in the audience are church ladies, also if this is a conservative Baptist church they believe that rock music is derived from the pit of hell so this is not really the audience for this type of music
In a church were the majority of the audience is older and mostly women , If this is a conservative Baptist church I imagine this did not go over very well being that they believe rock music is derived from the pit of hell
No more sedated the average crowd by the time Kansas took the stage in the 70s/80s...just because you pick it up at a CVS Pharmacy doesn't mean it's better for you than what came out of a brother's trailer after his ol' lady got back in town.
This song is one of the greats and it's easy to see why it's widely acknowledged as a rock classic. And John Elefante's still has it- his voice sounds strong and powerful. The band is no Kansas, but they're definitely decent asnd show some talent. But let's be honest, unless you are a conservative pew dweller, it is sad to see this being performed in such a sanitized, churchy environment rather than to a much larger audience. Maybe that is what Elefante has chosen, but even then, it's sad to see such a talent so limited in his audience and exposure.
He has chosen a more personal approach. You can go up and shake his hand and talk to him. He can actually impact more lives with this approach because now his songs become tied to personal testimonies.
Kansas asked him to take over for Steve Walsh (who's voice had some very good years behind them but we all know what happened without dragging it all out). John declined the offer because of his devotion to Christ, but I think Kansas has spread the word on a larger scale. Kerry Livgren (who wrote this song) is a born again Christian as well as Dave Hope, a retired Priest. Mixed feelings about that but you can't force someone to do something they just don't want to do.
I second the comments about this arid, stale, conservative, old crowd. Hopefully they liked the rest of the performance, and kudos for them doing this song regardless.
What "Lord?" Did you know that the longest lived people are the Japanese and they are atheists by Christian standards. The answer is diet, lifestyle, and biology. In other words, science not mythology. So much for your assumptions.
There will never be a lineup like the original Kansas. I think we can all agree, but… wow! John Elefante’s voice is incredible!!!!! This crowd they’re paying for sucks…..
What a LAME CROWD! John is singing amazing still, do they even know? Great job John and band, well done!
This must be lamest crowd I have ever seen in my whole life. 🥱😄
They're just old people. This is probably a church, and they're used to that.
It's a church dim wit
Powerful and clear voice. John Elefante is an everlasting talent.
John's voice has stayed strong all these years..rock on...
I heard him do this at a Preds game intermission and I had chills the entire time. He is incredible.
Greatest singer of all time!!!!
For all who find John E's voice amazing....listen to him sing when he sings with the Jay Sekulow Band. Awesome and amazing-check it out!
Yes great stuff there
Will do. Also check out him with mastedon. That’s some good stuff too!
Amen! It’s hard to see him sing in front of the elderly. Just sayin
Love them a lot! John Elephante and John Schlitt are phenomenal together
His solo stuff is amazing. "Fall", "the stream", "defying gravity", "hello my good friend" just to name a few

Give it a rest John.
An awesome performance by a great, highly underrated vocalist.
yeah and you should notice .. no one else has a mic....
Please explain.
explaination if I may.....the harmonies are on tape...possibly Steve Walsh...sure sounds like him
I would say that's not Walsh in the harmonies. Walsh's vocals had this intense ring up high. I've studied Walsh's early year's vocals and he was right up there with the best of them.
JE has the rock voice of the century.
I would be standing the whole time -up front!!! I’d become like King David...very undignified, lol.

John Elefante... What a voice!
I’d book them at my church. John is a strong believer.
John still sounds wonderful and his beautiful heart and soul alway shine through!
wow, what a great voice,
I close my eyes and still hear him in 1976 with Kansas and Boston.
I couldn't find any evidence that J. Elefante was in the Boston band. But, Michael Sweet played for Boston from about 2008 to 2011. And Elefante started his career with Kansas in 1981. Later, he (and his brother) had there own Christian band called Mastedon.

Desi C pray and pray God will give you the victory
Desi C Yes, spiritual blindness is a very real thing. Only Christ can remove that veil.
John sounded AMAZING!! I would have been dancing on the pew!
Again John E. could sing with two bears and a seal and shine ! lol love you John....
Guitars and vocals are fantastic on this one! John still got it. He should perform this before a big crowd of people.
Been a fan of Jon's & the Elefante boys since Brotherhood days!
Carry on we still need to hear this the kids that come behind us as we heard this how it lifted us will lift them 🙏🙏🙏😇
Hey Doug thus is really Cool!!! Good for you!
You still have it John! wow
Good job, John Elefante & other musicians. Sounded great!!
Great singing John ! Great song !
God Bless You! John Elefante
What a band !!! What a voice!!!
I saw him live the other day and he was INCREDIBLE. He even had a bad cold and still nailed all the high notes and everything. Just INCREDIBLE.
Awesome Performance!! John was Incredible!!!
Wow , he sounds great .
Great cut at it. Love the guitar players creeping melody during the verses. Awesome.
Awesome voice John❤
John and his brother have a very signature production style. You hear a song they produced and you instantly know it's them. Not to mention John's talent as a singer.
He was there in 1981. To me that was original,,,
Great... thanks so much for share
John is so talented!
Love it John! I remember coming to Pittsburg and seeing you guys along with Pitts and family.
I can't believe how the people just sit there, like they're dead!!! I'd be up on my feet, Raising He*l with KANSAS! Just Absolutely Love these guys! ❤️💙❤️
Always loved his powerful voice
Wow! This singer is still great! Congrats!!!😅
I'm surprised John did not have more of a successful music career in the 80s as his voice was epic then and still is.
What an incredible reproduction of the studio version!
What happened here, John is awesome!! No one has a voice like his!!
Great cover guys !!!
This is really awesome.
I LOVE MUSIC AND JHON ELEPHANT HAS A BEAUTIFUL VOICE.
Just Absolutely LOVE KANSAS! 💙❤️💙
When music was great,,
Fantastic Love your voice John
These guys are pretty damn good...and John is great. Wow.
🎉❤excellent work love it
Fantastico!
John E and Chris Cornell were always my fav voices in rock.
Wonderful 👏🏻
Must be hard when......well....the crowd just ain't into it. But John Elefante sounded great!!
Looks like a church.
that crowd was dead
The band seemed a little subdued. Kind of lacking in energy.
Hard for some people to rock out in church . . . . cultural conditioning!
This was taped a church so most of the people in the audience are church ladies, also if this is a conservative Baptist church they believe that rock music is derived from the pit of hell so this is not really the audience for this type of music
Yo! John has a vocal processor which is in near real-time! It is Awesome!
Phenomenal
He’s. Phenomenal
Looks like the gig was at an old folks home and the audience were sedated
In a church were the majority of the audience is older and mostly women , If this is a conservative Baptist church I imagine this did not go over very well being that they believe rock music is derived from the pit of hell
It's a church. I'm even wondering if many of them are familiar with Kansas and/or have EVER listened to secular rock.
they forgot to replace their batteries in their hearing aid. How in the world can you listen to John sing and NOT get emotional or excited...
No more sedated the average crowd by the time Kansas took the stage in the 70s/80s...just because you pick it up at a CVS Pharmacy doesn't mean it's better for you than what came out of a brother's trailer after his ol' lady got back in town.
Kevins Max cover is much better
John needs to come our church thegrove.cc once quarantine is over. We know how to rock!
Amazing!!
JE, his shape changes but his voice still Amazing!!!

Also, as the description reads, this was a charity for a crisis pregnancy center, not a church performance during regular services.
He sang at the Bridgestone during intermission at a preds game. He.was.incredible. omg...his voice was powerful, and gave me chills the entire time.
canta muito esse jhon elefante...
If you closed your eyes.. you'd think your listening....to KANSAS
Kansas asked him to take over for Steve Walsh (who's voice had some very good years behind them but we all know what happened without dragging it all out). John also doesn't feel like Kansas is Kansas without Kerry.
Nice, nice, nice
Who are these people in the crowd? Is this a church service? My first concert, Halenbeck Hall, SCSU late 70’s. Cheap trick and Kansas! Wowza!! 🐸
I second the comments about this arid, stale, conservative, old crowd. Hopefully they liked the rest of the performance, and kudos for them doing this song regardless.
Happy New Year '2019' guys. God bless you all in Yeshua Holy name~
That's the "saved version" of the song. "I can hear 'Him' say...not "them."
How are these people just sitting in their seats. I would be on my feet rockin out
John is amazing, but how about that backing band? The keys and guitar shredded that song. Kudos to them.
Love John. Singing along with harmonies and I assume the instrument amps are behind the curtains.....weird stuff
JOHN PUT SO MUCH SPARK INTO KANSAS & HE RECORDED 2 ALBUMS WITH THEM IN THE EARLY 80S 🎸🎵
DeHass!!
Elefante is as good as Walsh and he kept his voice and rhythm till today.
Why does John look so young?
Clean living and a love for the Lord!
Maybe the Crestor and daily baby aspirin is keeping him alive!
What "Lord?" Did you know that the longest lived people are the Japanese and they are atheists by Christian standards. The answer is diet, lifestyle, and biology. In other words, science not mythology. So much for your assumptions.
It's all that young p*ssy he has eaten over the years!
harveyvid amen bro
Kerry livgren lead writer and lead guitar wrote the song and steve welsh sang it. John sings it great here!!!!!!!!!
:17 hahah PLAYBACK!
There will never be a lineup like the original Kansas. I think we can all agree, but… wow! John Elefante’s voice is incredible!!!!! This crowd they’re paying for sucks…..
Drummer looks like the kind of guy who would hold a Cannonball record
Why did John leave Kansas?
The other voices were pre recorded?
Why is the keyboard player in the shadows??????
They playing in a church?
Is that the Mexican stig on drums??
Yup:)
*IVO`s MAGIC WORLD* presents *MUSIC HISTORY GUIDE - FAMOUS BIRTHS* - *TRIBUTE To JOHN ELEFANTE - 60th BIRTHDAY , TODAY!!!* (MaRch 18th, 2018
Looks like it’s in a church ?
Why is the keyboard player in the shadows
Are you in a church?
sounds like they are playing over a recording? Additional guitars and backing vox?
they are playing in time with some pre recorded help...for sure....
Who is this ?
Amazing crowd for real..🤓...Id be up there being shocked that Theyre right in front of me.. 😂...
I can't believe he turned Kansas away back in 2014 when they asked him to come back and front after Steve Walsh retired.
Great tune, but it looks like the audience has never heard it before and are waiting for their evening pill with jello.
Oh my God, I died at that comment!,!,
Looks like he surprised the tabernacle?
It's a church or something?
Hahaha omg Susan going to the bathroom at 3:25
Are they in a church. I see some hand raising
Stopped by the church to perform I see😳
The band wasn't upto Kansas standards but John Elefante's voice saved them.
