Anthem is a game that was developed by BioWare and published by EA back in early 2019 and it's a game that has a very sad story behind it so I wanted to go through the story of the game, the development and launch reception seeing as the game is now 5 years old. BioWare got a lot of stick for the release of Anthem being so poor but looking into it there was more behind it.
From EA rushing the game out and management having no concrete direction of the game to the developers not knowing what they're working on due to a lack of decision making, everything comes together to make Anthem what it turned out to be.
It never helped that EA decided to pull the plug on the rework of the game and discontinue all future development 2 years after its release, more than likely due to wanting money to come in bigger amounts and faster. Let me know your thoughts about Anthem and its story in the comments :D

Absolutely stupid how they dropped this game so fast. It was truly a gem that just needed content. The combat and everything else was legit
Every AAA release since has been "You thought Anthem was bad?! Hold my late!" ...
They had content planned new area new enemy types but it never got released
Anthem was one of my top games and it was supposed to be the destiny killer
I LOVE this game. Probably played over 2000 hours in this game and still play it every once in a while. I've been playing it ever since release.
This game had so much potential. It was fun flying around as the colossus with the shield out....honestly it was incredibly easy to solo farm legendary gear.

This game had SOOOO much potential. Gameplay was great. If they would have done a Loot 2.0 like Diablo 3 did, it very well could have saved the game.
I truly wish this game would have been taken up by another company and take it off with the developers that had the structure to the upgrade already set all that was needed was. Another development studio to continue what they started and add in What the new developers want also for this game could have actually put an offline as well. Nowadays all online Games need a offline mode just in case The online mode needs fixing. I love Using the interceptor End the storm.
I still play this game. It's cool to play with friends. I am amazed how I still find lots of people playing. EA was stupid for quitting this game. I hope some company rescues this IP and saves the game. Awesome video, Bill. Keep up the amazing work. Cheers!!!! All the best

I actually really like the gameplay of Anthem as it currently stands. Like many, many people have said over the years, it's the best Iron Man simulator we've ever seen. XD
Story is boring, characters are meh; but the world-building and backstory had potential.
I still pop in and play this game every now and then. The lush, jungle-ish world still looks good all these years later. I love how different the game feels depending on what type of Javelin you're piloting. I go full-on tank mode with the lumbering Colossus, and when I feel twitchy, I change it up with the fast, hit-and-run Interceptor. With the Ranger and Storm, I regularly get my arse beat. 😁🤣
I'm with you, brother. It was a blast playing through the campaign. I chose the Interceptor and looooooved speeding around meleeing everything and setting up Combos. Ooooooh the combo sound was sooooo satisfying to me, lol.
It hit hard when they gave up on it. There was so much potential.😢

Anthem was a tragedy. That game had so much potential. I still play this game. I have a colossus with all legendary equipment on it. It's pretty boss-tacular.

Love Anthem! Truly the best player flight simulation in any game. So much potential. Hope it gets brought back in some way.
For me this was one of the first examples that games are not made for players but for shareholders and investors and when you fail them its Game over.

This game was absolutely fantastic.
My personal review: Gameplay 10/10, story 5/10, upgrades/weapons 5/10, mission design 2/10. If they fixed the missions and added gear that looked different it wouldve been so good.
I loved this game so much! Had so much potential. If only Anthem 2.0 (Next) wasn't cancelled and was giving another chance.
The flying and combat was so smooth and a blast! Making you feel like Iron Man. This game really should've been giving off to another gaming company for a second chance.
I did like that game too. La got the platinum trophy on PS4 for it.
When I frist got my Xbox one I started playing this an I love it wish they would come back with it love the game play it is sometimes repetitive but I love it an I still go back an play it every once in awhile
I loved this game too. I played the shit out of it when it launched. The loot was abysmal, sure, but becoming a juggernaut nobody was able to kill was satisfying. They fucked up, quick and badly, and then poof all the promise the game had went south. So regrettable.
Anthem had incredible potential, but EA killed it, not BioWare.
stupid things still is really hard to earn the currency to buy cosmetics, they are so expensive. in term of gameplay, the game isn't bad as all, still having fun to play
There's still a small group of devotees playing this there is also a facebook group which organised a get together recently for the 5 year anniversary.. I absolutely loved the game and it's such a shame it went the way it did . I think this unfortunately was the start of the culture of rushing games by game companies for the benefit of the shareholders

I’m still pissed at EA to this day for cancelling the Anthem NEXT update. So many systems were being reworked like gear/equipment and there was going to be actual skill trees. The Head Dev seemed really passionate about it too, providing regular updates and concept art on Twitter…
It sucks because the game had a lot of potential and has one of the best customization systems I’ve seen in games yet. Changing material, colour, AND wear and tear was so good. (Not to mention there was plenty of FREE unlocks from completing challenges) The closest we have to that now is the void shell skins in Warframe and they kinda suck.
I still have the storm javelin on my Xbox avatar to this day.

I feel your pain. I was one of the very few people who liked Hellgate:London. it had a good pace and a satisfying TTK (at least for me). No endgame, but I switched to elite hardcore when I needed something to do.

I can say this about ANTHEM. It was a pretty game.
This game will go down as my go to example of publishers promising you a game they charged full price for and promise to fix it later.
They promised they’d fix it after outrage then went sike after the player base died.
I don’t know any other industry where charging full price and saying its half complete we’ll fix it later is acceptable.
Imagine getting a new car and they say the safety features will be rolled out over 5-6 years. 😂
I really wish this would have still been upgraded anthem two point zero. If only you didn't go down the path let it went down because no Developer Could not agree on whether to put flying in.Or have it stay If that had actually happened , then they were the constraints more on the mission structure And instead of doing it destiny typish, They could have structured some of the missions to have a tie in with the vendor that selling you stuff and the vendor could have went with you on this particular mission or missions.. Would have been fun And maybe serious moments In some of the missions but not all.

The premise of the game is cool, but I'm still happy that it went wrong, it's just another live service that caused losses for companies, and that makes me happy

You can play solo and it wasn’t great for matchmaking for an expedition but freeplay had a couple of players 👍
I enjoyed it for the time I played it, it was fun.
I was really into this game I even created my suit to look like iron man lol
I played it again recently and I had some fun with it again but the story was still pretty boring for a BioWare game.
Wait, the original plan was for Anthem to perform similar to Helldivers 2?

EA made BioWare discontinue the rework of the game but they kept the servers going and some people still play, I managed to find other players in freeplay servers 👍 I would love to see another company get the rights to Anthem and make a new game but it’s EA, they’ll only sell an IP if the money is right and nobody would pay a huge amount for it

It's 100% a shame that they dropped the ball with this game. The bones were REALLY good! The gameplay as a heavy using a shield and mini-gun was FUCKING INCREDIBLE! So satisfying!
But the development was garbage. The story was shit. The missions were meh.

Know what? I was gonna watch this through, but...I've heard the story of Anthem so many times, and honestly, it's enough already. I'm tired of rehashing the poor decisions and management, I'm tired of hearing folks lament the "potential potential potential potential potential" over and over and over and over. It's exhausting, because it's launching into revisionist history of people saying how great it was (when it really wasn't), the story was terrible and incomplete, the activities were the epitome of boredom and lacked any ounce of creativity, the characters were one-note and bland, and the LOOT and customization, the thing it should've emphasized most when they chose to be a "looter shooter" were disgusting.
Yes, it's fun to fly around. Pretty much the only redeeming quality. As I told Rick Kackis on Twitter couple years ago when HE was lamenting that feature...I was flying around open world zones in Warframe for a whole 1.5 years before Anthem even released, and that game is far deeper and more fleshed out than Anthem ever hoped to be, even at the HEIGHT of its "potential."
Is it sad that Anthem didn't get reworked? Of course. Is it sad the plug got pulled? Of course. Would I have played the rework had the new team made more content? Sure, why not.
Is it time to put this to bed, and LEARN from it, rather than rehash it?

A good game, ruined by dismal management and planning.
It was a good concept but aside from the Look and Getting around in the Ironman kinda suits it FAILED. Gameplay FAILED. Honestly should let you customize more stuff, loot should have been great...so many options. Again, Great IDEAS EXECUTED ON POORLY. But I Mean its EA.
