You're totally right. I'm from Holland and use your blog as an inspiration for caches in my homeland. So great ideas will be spread all over the world.
Keep up the good work.
Exactly my idea. Using some of the ideas and trying to spread them in Belgium. Geocaches here are mostly just a box under a rock -- which is nice, but I don't mind raising the bar 1 cache at a time.. to quote another Geocache Vlogger
don't like spoilers, don't watch spoiler videos, duh.
Rest in peace, I didn't have a clue this happened, I took a hiatus for a while from geocaching and I loved watching this guys videos, this guy has taught me so much and I have been able to make some pretty cool designs myself now after getting ideas from him. You will be sorely missed my friend, sorely missed ͼ(ݓ_ݓ)ͽ
really hope this doesn't stop you, i saw one of your video's on my browse playlist and didn't have a clue what it was so had a look at it and now i absolutely love finding geocache's.
Thnaks mate :)
I think your videos are awesome! It is obvious that A LOT of us will never get the chance to see in person the awesome caches you are showing... Simply because we can't go EVERYWHERE on the planet. So, thumbs up to you!
Because of your videos, it has helped me think "outside the cache-box", as it were. There were a couple of your videos that inspired me to make something I, personally, have not seen before. I created a cache where the cache, itself, is the trade item. It started with a flashlight as the cache container... and the point of the cache is for others to bring something to bring and trade as a new cache container. Honestly, before your vids, I was always traditional "Hey look... another cache."
"They said 'Jump'. I said 'No thank you'." LOL!
Im sorry to have heard that he passed away. I have been watching his videos over the last couple of days and love them. They give me and my partner loads of inspiration for making our own. Personally I don't think he did anything wrong. I would love to find some of his geocaches but I have no clue as to where in the UK he has located them. There was only one vide that had a sign saying Nottingham on it - still doesn't narrow it down really, just looked at the map theres loads. So there is no way of finding his ones unless we find all the ones in the UK. I hope the ban did get lifted. Love watching these videos, so whoever is maintaing his page please post more on his behalf. :)
Youve done more for Geocaching via your channel than a certain unnamed website has done on youtube! I was and still am on the verge of packing up Geocaching due to the lack of interesting and inovative caches in my local area.Your channel has give me insperation to carry on and place some new caches of my own. There are MANY other cachers on youtube who are doing the same thing as you a lot ot whom name the caches that they are visiting. I would be honored if you filmed one of mine!
I'm pretty sure I live on the other side of the planet so... I have no problem with your videos. Gives me a chance to see unique caches that I otherwise would have never seen. If someone can't understand what "geocachespoilers" (channel name) means, they are far beyond help.
I've just seen this video. I am a relative newbie (about 18 months ago - 300 odd finds). The word SPOILER should be enough to stop anyone who doesnt want to look. I have watched a lot of your videos to see the more unusual caches you film. In fact I recently pinched one of your ideas (puzzle money box) as a cache up here (hope you dont mind). People seem to like it as it is a bit unusual. So - thanks. Its sad when the fun police try to take over! I know you are back now tho! FAB!
I just found your channel this morning. Being a new geocacher, your videos gave me deeper insight as to what I should be looking for, especially clever hides such as nanos. My guess is that they will reverse their decision, but until then please keep up the good work. I am sure you will find that there are thousands of us who support you.
Sean L.
I am from Pakistan and I got into geocaching through your videos. Now this has become a family hobby and my kids love it. I think you should not be discouraged. Either make a new ID or better make your own geocaching website ; I am sure you will have a have a huge following. Keep up the great work. .
This is crazy how can this happen. If it wasn't for your blogs then all of the new caches in my area would be utter pants!!!!!!! myself and at least 2 - 3 other cachers in my area have watched most if not all and have came up with altered versions of caches we have seen and we have often told people to use youtube for inspiration for new exciting caches!!!! I completely agree with every one else when they say you are promoting geocaching and bringing/sharing the excitement! KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!
This really sucks! I am fairly new to GeoCaching and your videos inspire me to go find more and even hide more (creatively)
You never give any coordinates or GC codes. Hell I dont even know what country you are in (for sure) let alone town. Plus, anyone who GeoCaches knows, you could tell me right where it is and i still have to find it. You are good for GeoCaching, NOT BAD!
I will stand by you.
I would like to thank you for your videos, my husband and I are very new to geocaching,we have found one cache so far, so I'm trying to learn all I can. For me, I live in the U.S., and find the videos very instructive. Again thank you for making them. :)
Sorry to hear about all the drama you're dealing with. I haven't seen your other videos, so if you don't mind I'll take a look at what you've done and then put my 2-cents in.
Cheers!
Sorry to hear it man. I mself have been keeping away from spoler alerts in my vids just to make sure I DON'T spoil it for anyone.
This cache owner had asked Sven. directly, and Sven. had refused. When we intervened and pointed out our Terms of Use, he argued vehemently that the videos are not spoilers - even though that is the name of his RUclips channel. We then explained that not complying with the Terms of Use would result in site suspension, and Sven. complied.
i totally agree that there is no harm in your blogs. There is no spoilling in your videos. sometimes people can have a very narrow vision. (can no one else adopt your caches? just for the time being, for maintenance)
I think your videos are great! They're a great way to share ideas about cache containers and puzzles... and, for me who doesn't know any other locals cachers, I use YT to get me pumped about getting out there! Are there other people making vids like this (I hope so!)?
I found it hard to believe that you would be banned from geocaching! The only reason I was watching many of your posts was to get ideas on how to make better and more creative caches... Many of the caches around my area (except for a few goodies) lack any real zeal and I was excited to see some of the creativity you had to offer! I didn't think you spoiled anything for anyone!
We support you 100%. Your videos has allowed me to get ideas and make caching more interesting in my area. We need guys like you!
Wow that is really sad that he passed away :( ....he seemed like a really cool guy...R.I.P. and thanks for the cool videos. I bet Geocaching in the next phase of life must be F*cking AMAZING! If you can read this (Steven or Sven) leave me a Cache for when I cross over :).
Angela Sherman how did you fined out he died :-(
I called it Puzzle money box - you called it Impossible labyrinth Maze geocache - hidden under my son's userID. He called it Septimus Signus' Dwemer Cube (its a Skyrim thing!) My son is disabled. We are unlikely to find "fabulous" places to hide BUT with your help we can do unusual caches in accessable places - making things a bit more disabled friendly - which has to be good eh? Collecting padlock keys.. We are Scottish - and as we say - GO ON YIRSEL!!! (translation - luvin ur work!)
Sven. Just posted a protest against your ban on the link provided. I hope the Geocaching people read it. You have done nothing wrong I can see. If anything, some of the caches you have shown have been an inspiration for me in making up new ways to hide caches. In fact, I did a snail cache recently, that has been a local hit with the caches around here, getting them stumped at first. But now the words out they come out in droves each week now to find it.
All this because of your channel.
That is weird, because actually there is a televison show about Geocaching in french television. This show does the same as you do and that is allowed?
I Really like your YT-Channel because you show us some really great caches, that some of us can rebuild, to hide in our areas!
Signed the petition!
Keep doing your videos man. My kids and I really enjoy them. I hope they let you back on.
Sven you've been an inspiration to me and probaly alot of your other followers ....
Rest in peace Steve
Hope you have gotten back to geocaching. So sad that people are so uptight these days! I've been geocaching for over a year now and never once have I thought to look to this site to help me find a cache.
Aww.... I'm so sorry man! I hope you can Geocache again!
Your efforts clearly promote geocaching - it gets those new to geocaching interested and for those like me involved it challenges us to improve our game. And as you point out, you don't connect the videos to the GC code. Keep up the good fight, as all you do helps the world of geocaching, whether some folks are slower to appreciate it than others.
People can OBVIOUSLY see by the title its a geocache spoiler. if you dont want to watch it and let it be revealed to you, then dont. i like this guy, his channel is awesome.
Like many people here, have commented on the feedback link provided in the description. I do hope they will reconsider.
sven is the guy who made this channel, he passed away last year unfortunately, he also had a motorbike channel and was very popular and is greatly missed of course.
Nothing wrong with the cache idea's you put online. People can learn how to make nice or great caches. I also have a cache idea On youtube.
Strange why you are banned. Maybe you can ask the C.O. If he agrees with putting his cache on youtube.
I am a geocacher and enjoy watching your videos! You have support out here don't let a couple people spoil the great videos you do.
It was this channel that got me and my family interested in Geocaching in the first place!!, can't believe they have banned you. I'm sure that these vids do much more for Geocaching than they do against it.
An eloquent and calm response to what must be an infuriating situation.
I can't see why people would take offence at your videos; they are celebrations of ingenuity and do nothing but raise positive awareness of geocaching. If people don't want to see spoilers on an external site, they don't have to watch them. Not rocket science. Then again, one of the things that switched me off geocaching was the boorishness of certain members of the community. Seems that things haven't changed. Good luck!
R.I.P
Your channel has got people INTERESTED in geocaching!
rip man you were an amazing and influential creator
I never actually went out to directly look for any but because of your videos I keep my eyes open :) so I hope they get off to finding a good solution to your videos
your not doing anything wrong, this is your hobby and this is u blogging it for other people to enjoy. who are they to say what you can and cant do! like u say its not like your revealing any information ive been watching your vids since u subscribed to me and i like your channel, keep it up x =)
I got banned because i couldnt do maintence within 30 days on caches under deep mountain snow that will take months to melt
Unfortunate.
Getting the GCcode and the coords will get you closer to the cache then the videos will... I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA where the caches are located that the videos have shown. Sven has done no harm to anyone. If anything he has inspired me to place better quality caches. If I ever do "happen across" one of the caches he has videoed I probably wouldn't even realize it until AFTER I completed the cache. FREE SVEN, FREE SVEN, FREE SVEN, FREE SVEN, FREE SVEN!!!
Time people from that site to stop twisting the guidelines!
You have a great channel and we here in Australia enjoy your videos, they give us many new ideas and have made our hides a lot more fun and family friendly.
Thank you.
Me and my pals wouldn't even know about geocaching if it wasn't for your channel!
I can't believe this. You never really spoiled a cache! Hope it all goes well...
i started geocaching thanks to this video blog. so if anything this has encouraged more people to start geocaching
I hopee you get things sorted out, it sucks this happened to you, Hang in there!
What a real shame... I loved your videos. Hope you keep going one day!
I love this website. It's very inspiring. I'm not sure what the complaints are about. If it's because you're spoiling, people are invited to read on their own accord. No one is forcing someone to watch them.
This is crazy. Geocaching is a fun recreational hobby, this isn't a national security breech or anything. I love your videos, it makes me want to go caching!! Which in turn does what? Makes me look on the website to find more and any traffic may do what? Buy things from said geocaching site which in turn creates profit! Seriously, this is insane. Make a petition, I'll sign it!!
I'm disappointed as well, I never had any idea where any of the caches are that these 'spoilers' were posted about. I could care less, in fact. I watch this channel to get new clever ideas for how to make geocaches.
This is just silly. You have never given so much as the name of a cache. It was your videos that got me to purchase my year membership with the site. I hope all works out. Cheers!
So ridiculous. Your channel simply promotes geocaching and the fun and interesting things about various caches. I geocache and I enjoy your channel.
Did you ever get back on the site?
You are in the right, and I enjoy you channel. Keep it up.
..cont..The obstinate and heavy handed approach meant that 2 much-respected reviewers Lactodorum and Eckington, who had served faithfully 4 years left GS for good. The approach is like many US corporations - require complete obedience to a set of rules which seem to be interpreted differently from one reviewer to another. The reviewers they have in place now are much more willing to unquestioningly obey everything they are told, and in fact they seem to actually get off on the power-kick.
I think your videos are excellent and in no way give away information that could lead someone to that specific cache. Obviously your intent is to document unique and interesting cache containers. You are not out to spoil anyone's cache.
I think you are on the right side of the t&c's and should have your account reinstated.
I do understand the concern they have because someone could easily spoil a cache. If they actually viewed your videos they would see that what your are doing is for your
I see your point of view on this and to a point I agree but do you not think that even if you do not give the code away or location it still makes it easier for a person who happens to come along to a similar situation. I do admit i like seeing the " best of the best" caches but just a thought...
I don't think you have broken Terms of Agreement. Straight up, when I first watched your videos it crossed my mind "hmm if he was in my local area would I like these "spoilers"? Then I quickly decided that even if you were showing my local caches how in the world would I determine which cache you were talking about? I think your RUclips channel is positive exposure for geocaching.
I hope you get this sorted out Sven. It very much seems a case of my ball my rules from what you've said. I'm sure folk will see sense and sort you out soon.
I'm with you on this. As you've said you don't give any hint as to where they are or are called and if people don't like you posted then they shouldn't watch. Good luck
I know. look it up online, his account name was sven. It's spooky watching his latest video, considering he died on feb 4, 2012, 6 days after the video was posted.
I've read a bit more on this and watched the video again. I have a question. If you posted a video of one of my caches and I asked you to remove it from public view . . . would you?
It's one thing for Groundspeak to say remove them but it's different if the CO ask, either you or groundspeak to get involved.
Yeah, I do have a problem with posting a video of a cache in which the CO specifically does not wish it to be posted if it is in a well know area. And by well known, I mean known locally
There's two sides to every story. Groundspeak has posted theirs. Initially I agreed with Sven but that was before I heard that two Cache Owners specifically requested their caches be removed from the videos. Here's Groundspeak's statement:
The user who has created this spoiler site has drawn many people to geocaching. That is one of the reasons that Groundspeak featured Sven. in one of our Blog (Latitude 47) posts (unfortunately removed due to recent events).
This is an awesome channel. Sadly, the website you are referring to is getting too big for their own britches. Their lackeys are arrogant. I've found the forums to be snarky. They have competition now and maybe it is time for a mass exodus. I get the feeling many people hang in there just "for the numbers" . I really don't know if I will renew my premium membership and circumstances such as this just push me more to the "No Way" side. Your videos have inspired me. Thank you so much!
The geocaching vlogger does it all the time.
I think someone blocked my account on geocashing website. I hope I didn't offend someone, the only thing I ever said was 'ive looked 4 times its not there." I tried to sighn in again but by the time I was able to, it was completely different and 10x more complicated. I hope to get back to it someday.
I 'm w/you. Their Terms of Use does not include uploads to other sites, and even if it did, I don't see how that would be enforceable, either legally or practically speaking.
"You agree not to:
Publish, on any Groundspeak owned web property,"... "spoilers, or any hidden coordinates for any geocache without consent from the cache owner."
Perhaps permission from cache owner(s) would allay any further complaints?
How did he die? I am just curious guys, I hope it isn't rude to ask. It is right? Curiosity got the better of me.
He died in a house fire. It is believed to be a suicide
TheFriskySnail Holy shit that is dark. :(
No that's cool
Dennis Kelley Who died?!?!?!
The guy who had this channel.
Cant believe you got banned for this, by watching your videos it inspired me to make more creative caches hope you get unbanned soon
Humbug! Your not spoiling, your inspiring!
Let him back on line he has done nothing wrong. The only thing he has done has is given us ideas on ways to desighn better geocaches. I look forword to each and every post he puts up.
I get that this is an old video and that the situation is now passed however I cannot help but feel that this blog was a stand for good geocaches. As opposed to the banal crap that out there most of the time.
I have used your videos as a source of ideas to allow me to make interesting caches of my one to hide. I have no idea where your filmed caches are, nor do I care. Please persevere for the sake of the sport. What you do has real value to Geocaching.
Snoopy 1
I like Geocaching and I also enjoy your videos. I cannot believe that people must complain about this type of thing, no harm. I find you videos inspiring to go out and look for geocaches. You should NOT be banded, in my opinion. Good luck with all of this.
Hope you are back on soon because i enjoy your vids chers
Tully
The last two line - yes you should ask the cache owner if you can post the video of his creation. If you allready got permissions then there is no harm done.
"Publish, in any form of media, the solutions, hints, spoilers, or any hidden coordinates for any geocache without consent from the cache owner.2
so where are they again???
This is all news to me. As a veteran geocacher I'm a bit disappointed, based on what Geocachespoilers is telling us. As long as he doesn't reveal names, GC codes or locations, I can't see how this is "spoiling" anything; even if his choice of name may be a bit provocative. However, he is showing us some creative and really clever stuff. Speaking for myself at least, I'd say his videos are kind of inspiring. I'm impressed.
That is rediculous. I knew about geochaching before, but always thought they were random ammo boxes buried in the woods. Seeing this channel acutally informed me and got me more interested in it. I would think that as long as you weren't posting links to your videos, that would be fine with the site, but I guess not. I hate when people only think of themselves and how they can get more money.
Okay, now that I thought a minute or so about this case, I don't think this ban will stand up. This ban is just ridiculous. Someone was too quick on the trigger. You will be up and running in no time.
one of them has been muggled? was it the bike?
@shortydog15 there might not be another website.
this is ridiculous! you're vids are the best, Sven!
However, our Terms of Use state that a user may not, "Publish, in any form of media, the solutions, hints, spoilers, or any hidden coordinates for any geocache without consent from the cache owner." (Section 4m).
Groundspeak has never requested that this user remove all the videos he has posted on RUclips. Rather, two months ago we were contacted by the cache owner of a featured cache, who asked that we intervene in having the video of his cache removed from RUclips.
How did he pass...?
I voted that link in your description Greetings from Finland
You could use a proxy/vpn if your ip banned or change you ip on your router/ask you isp(internet service provider) but you will have to make a new account
I relay hope they decide to give you the account back!
I think you are doing a great job making this videos! Good luck!
how do you publish a cache after you have filled out the cache info?
I believe he died in a house fire. Check out latitude 42 (47?). I think they posted an article a while back. If not, definitely in the forums. I saw the newspaper clipping.
Hey sven, how you keeping? you other channel has gone quiet ! Soz to hear about your ban, but it does sound as if your account will be restored.
Totally misguided for that website banning you. Your videos have done so much to further the sport and adventure of geocaching. My son and I love your geocaching adventures. Please DO NOT pull down your content. The best thing to do in this situation is to reconfigure and charge forward. Perhaps start a geocaching site that does support the fun of geocaching while incorporating social media such as YT and video content showing caches.
other than groundspeak i have never looked into geocaching videos. wish i had a camera to document my days!
So very sad he died. He videos were really nice.
I hope that this gets worked out somehow. I really enjoy your videos. I wonder who it is that is complaining?
hope everything got worked out for you
AMV Otaku hes dead
