Have no idea how to do this. Getting the tools to do this stuff is a big part and who knows if one is able to do it. Pvs 31 and Gpnvg would be cool to do too. The thing is it's really hard to do these things without step by step constant ongoing and restarting course.

This digital/analog tube setup seems really interesting. I like that it doesn't look to restrict you to one or the other so it can be built on a lower budget and upgraded further down the road. I'd definitely like to see how well the digital works side by side with an analog tube.
Brother this is so cool! I'm looking in to this for usages in search and rescue as a volunteer I look for anything that can save me costs you are doing godswork!
you know what would be an interesting idea? take the Gen 4 PVS-69 image intensifier tubes, place them into a PVS-5 housing (from a pair that don't work obviously, gutting them would be a pain though) and using PVS-31 replica bridge to make a PVS-105 (or PVS-5-69, not good at naming things lol), essentially a combination of all three. The only major difference being that instead of contacts, you have wires come directly out of the tubes, similar to the originals. not sure how that'd work tho.
It wouldn't be terribly difficult to swap the IR drone camera with a thermal sensor. With a little bit of work, you could even overlay the thermal image onto the image from an IR camera feed and have a set of hybrid NODs.
i actually do plan to pop a thermal core in one im sure it would fit. overlay is a totally different beast and not really supported with the video signal we are using.
@@vonscherfarms925 you can do it via ghosting, but it's not exactly a pretty solution. You basically run both inputs into the same monitor, with a sliding resistance switch (like a dimmer switch on lights) on each. Gives you control over which signal is dominant, and even the ability to run one or the other.
@@vonscherfarms925 I'm not 100%, but I see no reason why it wouldn't as long as the signal isn't overpowering the inputs ability to read the signal. From everything I've done in AV, signal strength is the biggest factor. That's why the dimmer switches are important. Try it with two regular camera inputs and see if you can get them to ghost, assuming you have the sliding resistance switches to wire it up.

I'd imagine if you're using something like a raspberry pi to feed the stream into your monocular, you'd need to run two boards. One for your digital camera, and another for the thermal sensor, then a sliding resistance switch behind each board, and from the switches, they'd be spliced together into the monitor. I'm sure there's info out there on how to ghost video signals that's more up to date or accurate, though.
Really appreciate you making these for us folks who don't have $8k to blow on analog dual tubes. Can't wait to get mine. Question though, how is it walking with them? I've used 14s in the military bit I'm curious how the depth perception is? I'm guessing it's like anything else, just practice with them. Also do they auto adjust for cqb to open fields on its own?
i’m pretty sure walking with him is really easy I just one dude who posted like a minute and a half video of him just walking out in the woods and I mean with no IR only like 25% noon he could see just fine and he could walk with him the field of view is pretty good. It seems like I’m not sure cause you can’t really tell through camera. But you can definitely see where you’re going and that’s definitely a plus for being around 500 bucks to build yourself 400 if you get really lucky.
The entire infantry uses PVS14 monoculars . Only special forces groups get duel tubes so I'd say that's good enough for most civilians and you can pick up used gen 3 omni builds for 2 grand all day .

I was just thinking, you showed the tube housing that you had printed in aluminum that the printers fucked up. Ive started 3d printing a few months ago to get in on the Nylaug beta and i decided to cast my own receiver in cast aluminum. I was thinking that if that housing is better in aluminum, maybe i could try casting it and seeing how it turns out. Seems like itd be an easy cast just from the outside
I always read the channel name as vonscher farms and it makes me laugh. What do you estimate the final cost for a gen 4 digital vs a gen 4 analog? Could you pair one digital tube with an analog? Kind of upgrade as you go sort of deal. My thought would be build a g4 digital, and then save to buy parts to convert to analog.
I have not tried pairing them and I’m unsure how that would perform. I know that it would really fuck with your eyes as the aspect ratio wouldn’t be exactly the same. I advise against it

@@TierNoneOperator the latency in sionyx would always make it a no go in my book. A member in the discord did some testing of a sionyx black and they’re pretty close in terms of detection capability.
@@vonscherfarms925 the new opsin has 90fps with moonlight or an illuminator though, so seems like that has been fixed. The black was definitely an action camera that worked well in low light whereas the opsin is meant to be a true helmet worn device.

Ive been pricing different units for years; even the cheapest PVS 14 or pvs 31; nevermind-14, wolf-14, etc are all way above what I can afford to spend; but, I have been rocking the NVG 10 and love it and would really love to go a step up… If i dont have a 3D printer or anything; how much would you say I can get into the game for a single monocular on the side of the PVSe-69 for……? If one comes in the shop and tries to understand something all is nice and described well, but it's hard to understand stuff that a noob would like to know: is it fully working what I buy, how do I see (yes this is show in some pictures of the lenses), do I connect this stuff to a battery pack? It's more a web site for a very small niche of people who know already 90% of the NVG etc. And maybe that's what you want it to be. After all this is not airsoft stuff it's real deal, real steel owners stuff. I am just trying to understand how to build one but there is a huge quantity of tools to be bought too which inflate the price and then zero manuality ... I wish to make a pvs 31 like and a gpnvg in the future. An maker that has shown in a video how to make a pvs (digital camera) not like yours also has included a camera recording capability. Thanks.

Yes. The lens guy I’ve been working with has now packaged the lens for the DIIT in the same format as a PVS-14 lens so with those two things you could convert a PVS-14 or other units

Question for the ones with the anolog iits, what generation are they? And would gen 1 tubes work?
They would have to be MX10160 not sure you can get those as GEN1 but you can get Chinese NNVT-4 gen2+ for like $800 a tube

It’s extremely hard to see in the video but there are actually holes for some key rings but squeeze out from the printer filled them in a bit

1900 gets you a housing with digital tubes and PVS-14 eye pieces. Other companies charge 1700 for just the housing…
